As you're staring across the alley to the other roofs you don't see anything. Then, just as you're about to follow Vassa down you catch a flicker of something. You can't tell what it is, but something is stuck to the roof that this 'puppet' was supposedly on.
Is there anyway to get to that roof from the top of Trollskull?
Silver nods as his interest is peaked by the man's comments, he holds up another two gold coins "Anything else that gold could help you remember?"
The man smiles, "Unfortunately not. Normally, I'd just make something up to get the gold. But considering the situation, I'd like to see justice done this time."
Is there anyway to get to that roof from the top of Trollskull?
Yep. You'll need to make a 10-ish foot jump across the alley at the south end of the manor, which everyone except Vassa can make. You'll need an acrobatics check (DC 10) to ensure you land without falling off on the other side (roofs are dangerous, yo!). And I'd recommend a stealth check (DC 15) unless you want the City Guard and City Watch folks to know what you're up to.

Kestrell turns to tell Vassa what he saw, but can't find him. "Huh, must have gone down to console Phaedra." Kestrell thinks to himself. "Well, let's go see what that thing on the other roof is."
Kestrell stands back, then takes a running jump to the other roof.
As Kestrell lands on the roof he starts to slip for just a moment before stopping. He rises up and walks to where he was sure he saw something. What he finds is a piece of cloth... perhaps part of a cloak? The border of the cloth has a symbol of a gear or cog that repeats all along the edge and appears to have been sewn with some sort of string that reflects the sunlight. As Kestrell is holding the cloth he hears a man clear his throat. He looks up to see the mage levitating at the edge of the roof staring at him, hand extended.
"It appears you may have found a clue. Please hand it over and return to your manor. My associate and I will be by shortly to speak with you and your friends."
Kestell grips the cloth tightly: "And who the hell are you? Seems to me that it was a magic fireball that caused all the death and destruction below. You look like one of them magic types by the way you are just floating around there. Maybe I should call for the City Guard..."
Glaring at Kestrell the mage replies, "I am Barnibus Blastwind, member of the Watchful Order of Magists and Protectors. I work with the City Guard as you no doubt are aware, you saw me arrive with them and watched me investigating the scene already. Please do cooperate, this will go much faster if you do."
"If you are who you say you are, call down to the guard. Or, maybe I'll take you to the guard myself?"
Intimidation to make him call down to the guard: 9
Visabily frustrated the mage says, "Yes, let's go down to the guard." and with that he steps onto the roof with you and casts Otiluke’s Resilient Sphere. Kestrell needs to make a DC 13 Dex saving throw. Otherwise, he's trapped in a sphere and the mage pushes the sphere off the roof.
Edit, now the first one shows up! I guess I should take it.
"Alright, alright, I believe you. No need to get all mystical on me. You can't blame me for being cautious after current events, aye Barny? Let's go down."
Kestrell hands him the cloth and looks around for a staircase or ladder.

Not really wanting to make the party or their home a focus of the watch or their investigation, Vassa walks outside, pretending to be just another concerned citizen trying to see what all the racket and fuss is about.
Walking back in towards where the explosion took place, Vassa glances around, trying to spot this Hornraven woman or her home, wondering if he should have a crack at questioning the noblewoman after what the others said.

You don't see anyone fitting the description you were given for Mrs. Hornraven. You do notice a mage floating back to the ground and Kestrell standing on a roof.

Vassa is about to call out to Kes when he notices the mages attention on his friend. Not knowing exactly what is going on, Vassa attempts to get as close to the mage as possible without drawing attention to himself... just in case Kes needs backup at any stage.

Vassa starts walking across the alley when he hears a very frustrated whisper, "Would you PLEASE return to your manor and ask the rest of your associates to remain in there until we're done investigating the crime scene? I will be by to question you and yours at that time. Further attempts to interfere will not be looked upon kindly." You look around and don't see anyone close by and then realize that the mage just used the spell message to communicate. You look up and see him staring at you as he finishes floating down.
"Why of course, I'd would never dream of being caught interferring in official watch business, sir. That man up there is a friend, business partner and housemate of mine, you see. I was merely coming out to make sure nothing untoward happened to him and to ensure that he got back home safely."
Having never learned the spell himself, Vassa shouts his response back to the mage, keeping both of his hands out and in plain view the whole time.
