Phaedra nods to Raener as he leaves the house, then she steps forward towards the group as they look over the plans, her scale mail making a soft cascading sound like a small brook. Her long blond hairs shifts as if blown by a wind and her pale blue eyes shift over each of those present before resting on Vassa. A smile runs across her face as she address’ the bard,
“As kind Raener has said, I am Phaedra Starcaller, humble servant of Mystra, Mother of All Magic and yes, I am a member of the famed Harpers. It is a pleasure to make your aquatence, I hope that I can be of assistance. From what I have been told by Raener you have already had a run in with some of the more shadowy groups within Waterdeep. I believe that my skills could be of use to you all, in a number of ways”she adds as she glances back at Lif.
Following the capable looking woman's stare to the poltergeist, Vassa's smile wavers a little, before his gleaming smile re-emerges as he says,'
"Skills you say? Kind Raener mentioned that you were a healer, so by servant of Mystra, are we to take it that you are a priestess or cleric of the Lady of Mysteries?
And yes, we've certainly run afoul of one or two "shadowy" types... haven't we, Silver. I'd say that a healer, and one who understands magic, would most definitely seem a fine addition to our little family. Of course, it looks like our growing clan might be plus one in the ghost department also... which is something we can all discuss later."
Kestrell accepts the gold and copper from Vassa. "Thanks. I think we could have taken that mind flayer for what it's worth."
Kestrell looks around the manor: "Interesting, very interesting. Well, remodeling is probably in order, yes. Although, I don't need a permanent room, as eventually I'll be returning to my beloved forest where it is quieter, and I can actually hit what I shoot at. Oh, and we should make sure that we know about the sewer entrances that I'm sure are in the basement of this place."
Kestrell looks around for the poltergeist: "Lif? Are you there? Can you pour us a cold one?"
"Indeed, Kes. It's certainly a doer-upper, but if these plans are accurate, I'd say that we've done rather well for ourselves. Unless anyone has a property development fund though, the upgrades might have to be an ongoing project.
But yes, we should definitely scour the place for any potential unpleasant surprises. Should we do it together, maybe a top-down approach? Or we can break into pairs or even explore individually."
'Having tried to speak to the spirit himself, Vassa will look over with curiosity when Kes addresses Lif to see if the entity gives any reaction.'
She pauses for a second, "A cobbler called Whites. No I can not help you with that. I am new to the city, my home is south of here, in Elturel, the capital of the kingdom of Elturgard. I, well" she looks over at the plans for the house "I was told I would be staying with you. But I understand if this imposes, I am more than happy to return to my lodgings at the temple and join you later..."she lets her words trail off.
"Well, no one here is going to tell you what you have to do, Phaedra, but you're certainly welcome to help us look the place over and then decide whether you would like to guest with us. It would appear that we have a surplus of rooms, though I'm not sure yet what the places state of readiness is."
D&D is a game, but it's not just a game. It's the ultimate storyboard, a campfire to share with friends, an imaginary call to imaginary arms and a ship to sail to horizons yet undreamt of...
Silver just sighs"It's to late to return the house isn't it...aren't they suppose to tell us about ghosts. I'm pretty sure that's in a city clause."
He then registers Vassa's comment and smiles"We definitely have run into some shady people - though that's pretty much all of Waterdeep for you. I suggest that we break into pairs and each pair takes a floor."He just walks over to Phaedra"Only right that the two new additions to the party explore together." He just looks around 'Plus its always good to be next to a holy person when it comes to undead tings' he adds in his head.

"Well you heard me ask about curses and such... though I guess I could have been more specific. Oh well, Lif hasn't slimed anyone just yet, but if he does, you know who to call...
Good idea, Silver. Best we not have anyone wander about alone until we've done a thorough check though, so why don't you accompany them Aenio? You and Phaedra here probably have all sorts of interesting magicky stuff to talk about.
Would you like to help me explore the third floor, Asa? There's a library/study apparently, and I plan to lay claim to that master bedroom... unless someone else objects."

Shoot! I forgot to ask Volo again. Maybe you know - have you heard of a cobbler called Whites somewhere around here?"
Volo, who had been watching for Lif to reappear, turns his attention back to the group. "Whites? Doesn't ring a bell. I can make some inquiries for you, though."
"Indeed, Kes. It's certainly a doer-upper, but if these plans are accurate, I'd say that we've done rather well for ourselves. Unless anyone has a property development fund though, the upgrades might have to be an ongoing project.
"Perhaps the goods we found in the warehouse will sell for enough to get us started?", says Aenio. Looking at Volo, "Do we have an idea of how much it'll cost?"
"I didn't purchase the place with the intentions of repairing it so I never got any estimates myself. One of the others who had bid against me was complaining that just to get the guild licenses and contracts was 250 gold, up front. But, in Waterdeep you have to have them. If you try to cut out any of the guilds then none of them will work with you. Try running a business when you can't get supplies and see how long you last." replies Volo.
'Having tried to speak to the spirit himself, Vassa will look over with curiosity when Kes addresses Lif to see if the entity gives any reaction.'
You look around just in time to see a glass filled with the most horrid looking water floating over. You watch as it's set down on the table in front of Kestrell. Lif then appears and, in the dust on the table in front of you all he writes, "Go away" then vanishes again.
Silver just sighs"It's to late to return the house isn't it...aren't they suppose to tell us about ghosts. I'm pretty sure that's in a city clause."

As you start to stand Volo raises a hand to stop you. "I know you're all anxious to explore the place, but before I go I did want to tell you a few more things about the neighborhood.
Just south of you is Corellon's Crown run by Fala Lefaliir. Fala is an herbalist and a member of the Guild of Apothecaries and Physicians and can sell you herbal remedies and potions. Side note, no one knows if Fala is male or female. And you'll never get a straight answer out of him... or her.
One street over to the east and you'll find The Bent Nail run by Tally. There's no sign, just a bent nail in door to the place. Tally is one of the best woodworkers you'll find. He can sell you everthing from ornate chairs to crossbows. Just south of him is Steam and Steel owned by a Genasi couple. One is an expert weaponsmith while the other is an expert armorsmith.

Looking over at Lockbox, "And I have not forgotten my promise to you. I will be researching your kind to see if there are still others like you."

After watching Volo depart, you and Asariel head on up to the 3rd floor. The first thing you notice is the smell. Evidently the privies weren't cleaned before this house was abandoned. As you look around though, it appears that furniture was all covered with sheets. Looking under the sheets, it all seems to be in good order. The furniture up here appears to be much nicer and better maintained than what was in the tavern portion of the estate. You don't find anything out of the ordinary in any of the rooms. No massive structural issues. The place just needs a massive dusting and cleaning. As you walk into the master bedroom you see a Lif standing next to a mirror on the wall with a stern expression on his face. In the dust on the mirror the ghost has written in flowing script, "Please be a dear and", below that in large block letters, "LEAVE!"

Having had more than his share of sewer-esque stenchs, Vassa grimaces and wrinkles his nose at the old privy smell. The bard looks around for something that can serve as a bucket and a lot of disposable rags, tearing a few of the furniture sheet covers to acquire the latter as needed. With a determined look on his face, the half-drow will then pulls a sliver of wood and piece of string from his pocket and spend the next ten minutes ritually casting unseen servant. When Airus arrives, Vassa says,'
"Sorry to reduce you to this, old buddy, but better you than me."
Having set his share of the cleaning in motion, Vassa will wink at Asa as the dust begins to rise. Moving to the windows, the smiling bard will open them all up to the morning light and air, before glancing at the message bearing mirror as he turns back to the sorceress to say with a mischevious grin,'
"So what do you make of all this, Asa? The idea of owning our own building, the possibility of running a business, the whole race for the Stone of Golorr thing, the Harpers and our newest member Phaedra, our semi-permanent friend Lif here?"
[OOC] For the next two hours (ritually casting the spell again in an hours time) the bard continues to explore the rest of this level and the house, chatting with Asa, though staying within range of Airus to direct the US as needed. Vassa will set Airus to dusting and wiping everything down, in the following order, the two privies, the master bedroom, the adjoining bathroom, the second bedroom, that bathroom and lastly the library/study. Please let me know if all of this will take longer than two hours.

Volo looks up to Vassa, "Vassa my boy, I like you. But you really shouldn't be so greedy. Besides, you can't get blood from a turnip. Renaer had to cover the title transfer fee for me because I couldn't afford the 25 gold for that even. And this property is worth vastly more than the 100 gold each I promised your crew. If you'd rather have the coin, I'm sure you could sell the place within a few weeks for thrice what I promised you and the next buyer is still getting a bargain. But that's up to you."
In response to the spoiler:
"I'm not aware of any entrances directly to the Underdark. I do know of several to UnderMountain and from there, if you're skilled, you can get to the Underdark. I'll do some research on it and see if there's a more direct route. Thank you for the open invitation. And I hope you're not too upset about the lack coin. I really do think your group will be able to turn this into a nice establishment again. And it'll get you out of the seedier bars in town."
Before heading upstairs with Asa, Vassa just grins at Volo's admonishment, figuring that it was worth a shot but also acknowledging the writer's point. Having heard Volo mention a number of times his relative lack of coin, the bard frowns at the notion that a world famous author of Geddarm's notoriety should be struggling for coin-flow.

As he just begins to ascend the stairs with Phaeda he looks back "Scream if you're in trouble." With that he begins the search of the second floor with their new found companion.
As Silver and Phaeda make it to the second floor and start to explore the den. As they lift the dusty sheets they are astonished to find some extremely fine furniture in good condition. This trend continues in the common room and bedroom. Whomever lived here previously must have been very well off, or the downstairs tavern was really profitable. You do notice that some of the windows need replacing and the balconies need a good deal of work. And the views from the balconies aren't bad.
Looking over to Lockbox, Aenio says "Well Locky, you want to go check out the garret with me?"
"Yes, I'd like to see my room." Lockbox pauses after saying this. He can't remember, has he ever had his own room before?
When the pair get to the top and into the bedroom they find dusty sheets covering furniture like what would be found in a decent inn. The store room that Lockbox requested is empty of everything except dust and rat droppings.
"No fair, your room is bigger. You don't need that space, let's swap." exclaims Aenio
"My room has no fireplace. Without that you would get very cold this high up." responds Lockbox

Kestrell turns to Lif. "Looks like it is just you and me old boy. Let's check out the basement. See what we have for Ale and Wine."
Kestrell opens the hatch to the basement and climbs down. He is looking for secret passages to the sewers, as well as taking stock of the available stores of alcohol and hoping to find some salty nuts.
As you enter the basement you see a couple casks against one wall, pipes running overhead, at least one of which has a slow leak, and random detritus on the floor. In your search for secret passages you push on all the bricks in the wall and tap and tug on all the floor stones, and as best as you can tell there's no secrets here.

Further to what Silver was saying though, it does appear that you've 'gifted' us with something of an ongoing expense and management dilemma... one that might prove costly in both coin and time. Considering that we're also taking the increasingly charming Lif here off your hands, I don't suppose that we could still get some or all of that promised gold for rescuing Floon by any chance?"
Regardless of the author's response, once outside the front door, Vassa will ask,'
"And thank you for agreeing to research some of our particular issues and questions. If I might add one to the request list, I would dearly like to know about entrances to the underdark nearby and to the South of Waterdeep. What ever information you could find on drow communities in the same region would also be greatly appreciated. I know that I asked you previously, but any more detailed information would be warmly received. Farewell, thanks again and be sure that you are always welcome here at Trollskull Manor, good man."

Silver just nods looking to the new member "Awesome I guess we will take the second floor and see what we can't find."
As he just begins to ascend the stairs with Phaeda he looks back "Scream if you're in trouble." With that he begins the search of the second floor with their new found companion.

Phaeda starts to follow Silver, looking back towards Vassa. "I am indeed a priestess of Mystra, Our Lady of Mysteries and I am committed to aiding your" she pauses "just cause."
She farrows her brow at Silver's comment about screaming "I will be fine with the poltergeist...but if something causes your heart to jump, I'll protect you. No need to fear".

From the stairwell heading up, Vassa's musical laugh will be heard fading away, before the bard's amused voice calls down,'
"Don't worry, Phaedra. We tend to do things just 'cause a lot around here. You're going to fit right in. And good to know that Silver's body and soul are safe in your company. Ha!"

Silver just smiles giving a little chuckle and a wink "A man couldn't ask for a better or more beautiful protector - I'll be sure to keep close should something come at us."

Investigation: 9
As you enter the basement you see a couple casks against one wall, pipes running overhead, at least one of which has a slow leak, and random detritus on the floor. In your search for secret passages you push on all the bricks in the wall and tap and tug on all the floor stones, and as best as you can tell there's no secrets here.
