The Long Road of the Mage King (Game Thread)

(Genny is small enough to fit in a big goliath's hand still, right? I imagine that in addition to the barking dog game, elaborate peekaboo, and the guessing game they were just playing, Dog would also simply toss her gently from one hand to the other.)

(She weighs about 23 pounds, is a little over 2 feet tall, can walk and run as toddlers do and says about 50 words.)

Keyrie smiles happy that she has been able to keep her innocence this long and hopes that she can keep it even longer. 

As the conversation dwindles, Mother Mentiri excuses herself and the party are free to explore the city as they see fit, or stay in the temple if they would prefer that.

There are several blacksmiths, bowyers, book stores, and more. Any ordinary kind of armor or weapon can be found for any size of person. Sometimes adjustments may be necessary, but those can be completed by the end of the day, typically. Several major purveyors have extremely high quality items (I will post the shops and lists and add in prices and links gradually as I have time.)

Selling items:

For each item, roll a d12 and consult the chart below:

1: Buyer not interested
2-4: Buyer will pay 75% of market value
5-7: Buyer will pay 90% of market value
8-11: Buyer will pay 100% of market value
12: Buyer will pay 115% of market value

If you are selling to a shop that does not typically sell the item, roll with a -1. If you are selling to a  black market fence, roll with a -2.

Gash excitedly heads over to The Shiny Bauble, once he gets to the door, he composes himself and enters quietly.

Dog wants to ask Raer Casilltinera, the armorsmith, if there is a better set of armor than his chain shirt that he could buy (say, chain mail, or that ring mail +1) that comes in goliath size.

He's also interested in the warhammer - he's been practicing a bit with FeyTok throwing axes and hammers like FeyTok throws his greataxe. If he's learned how to throw well enough, and can throw a warhammer like that, it would work perfectly for him.

"Oh my, you are a big one," Raer says in a soft, serpentine voice. He doesn't seem like a master armorsmith but that illusion is soon broken. "I can size up or down any of these suits of armor, y'see?"

He reveals slits around the neck and waist of the armor. The sides are completely unconnected. "Nothing every fits right off of the target dummy," the smith says with an unnerving chuckle. "I can take your measurements and have it back to you in 3 days, a week at the most."

When Dog gives a sad smile and tells him he is leaving in the morning, the smith purses his lips and thinks quietly for a minute. Dog can almost see the size of the purchase flashing before the smith's eyes.

"Very well," he says at last. "I can have it for you first thing in the morning, assuming you have the coin on hand. This is not a cheap item, my burly friend. Which suit do you fancy, then?"

Gash can hardly contain his excitement long and approaches the counter quickly, "EH, HELLO! My name is Gregory and his is a fine store you have. I already see quite a lot of things I'd like to have, well I would like to buy it all but I certainly don't have the kind of coin to take up all your stock!" he laughs nervously. "So maybe those gloves and that flaming sphere scroll... that flame arrows one is tempting too... if uh if i buy all three items could you maybe give me a deal? "Thank you for giving me the tutorial -- I've worn armor for much of my life and didn't know that was how it could be sized. Brilliant!" He leans down on the counter. "Actually, I used to be in a mercenary company with Ranil Cinderwood, a halfling who's from Karkarus. Perhaps you know her or her family, or sold them armor?"

"I do indeed have coin on hand for the armor, the scale mail looks to be what would fit me well. It looks well-crafted and better than others I've seen. How did you make it? How is it for someone who's trying to stay quiet?"

He starts to pull out his bag. "Actually, I wanted to ask you about something else. That helm of teleportation may be something that someone in my party wishes to purchase. They're going to be more likely to want to do business here, I'd say, if I let them know that I found a good deal for the armor. I'm going to have dinner with Lord Camman tonight and I'd love to have a good story about this place to tell him about. Is there a discount to be had for the scale mail? That way you get more business if we also buy the helm, we walk away happy, and everyone wins?"

Persuasion if needed: 9 (if intimidation for some reason, add 2)

(Dog will also stop by The White Poker and look at the warhammer if he thinks he can use it for a ranged weapon similar to FeyTok's greataxe, and otherwise the flail if he doesn't.)

(A warhammer is only 2 pounds, so you can throw it using improvised weapon rules.)

Raer converses with Dog as he takes the goliath's measurements. ""I don't know the Ranil Cinderwood, I'm afraid. Send her my way for any armoring needs, though! The scale mail is not especially quiet. If you are looking for armor to wear in stealth, leather or studded leather is for you. As for how I make it, I forge it with enchanted steel. It is extremely difficult to shape, since it is magically more durable. This suit of scale mail took 6 weeks to make!"

Meanwhile, one district over, Arara Hanali looks at Gash with a cross between pity and condescension. "I am not here to subsidize your playing wizard, goblin. I will take your coin but you will pay full price."

Raer is much kinder, though the answer is similar. "While I am excited for your business, friend, I am doing you a huge favor prioritizing your fitting for tomorrow morning. If the helm is too much for you or your friend, I'm afraid it will have to stay on my shelf."

"I understand, Mr. Casilltinera, and can pay for the scale mail now," Dog says, as he hands over the money (or can wait till the next morning). "Can I offer you this chain shirt for resale?" (roll: 3) [Market value is 50gp, and on a roll of 8, that's 100%?]

Gash completely dejected. “Oh. Um. Yes. Of course. I’m sorry for wasting your time. Here is your 525 gold pieces. I’ll just take those three things and be on my way. I’m very sorry. Please have a good day. I won’t come back. It’s okay.”

He collects his items and puts them into his backpack. He pulls up his cloak and he leaves the store his shoulders shake up and down as he stifles whatever noise is trying to escape his mouth. 

Tock will wonder around and come across Deva's Brooch. The name sounds promising, so he's going go see what's there.

"A RING THAT LETS YOU WALK ON WATER!!"

"I was about to drown recently, I'm a lousy swimmer and only got lucky with a rope. I would very much like to buy that ring."

Tock would like to buy Ring of water walking.

(and also some crossbow bolts for 2gp and all 13 of the +1 crossbow bolts for 1gp each. So that's 415GP total if I'm counting correctly.)

Keyrie will take one look at the busy town and give a kind of snort before going back inside, "Come on Genny lets play until everyone gets back."

After Gash leaves the store he will go buy 40 standard crossbow bolts and a quiver to carry them in.
