“Your majesty,” Martin says with an overly deep mock bow. “This city stinks. Riddled with bureaucracy. You’d need someplace where guards are less fearful of red tape.”
Dog looks up from his book, and grins at Nev's attempt. He stands, walks over to Genny, and kneels, bowing his head low with whatever flair a goliath can muster.
"Your majesty! Your humble servant is here to.... serve. Tinosa is not an ideal city, and it is not your destination. However, I don't know if you share my love of the cold, and the road will be cold in the middle of winter. So! My advice is to stay in Tinosa until winter has begun to fade, and then continue on the Long Road, hopefully with more information about where you want to lead us. I have been seeking such information to perhaps aid you in that decision, but thus far, I do not have anything pertinent, and so time here could serve you well," he says, eyes to the ground. He blinks, and his grey eyes rise to meet the child's, and he grins. "Unless."
"Unless you have found, in your infinite regal wisdom, that you or the Queen Mother have decided your true intended destination for your... education. Say the word and I will accompany you to the Mage King's castle or Mardek's island. Or a third option, perhaps none of the above. If you choose Aucasia, I will have more... advice for you."
Tock waits for Dogto finish his speech, then kneels beside him and says, "Your Highness! This city serves us no purpose outside the possibility of spending the winter. But moving on does not mean we need to stay on the road - we have the means to travel great distances instantaneously! My advice is to keep moving, especially as I have exhausted everything interesting to do in this town."
Althus bows deeply to Queen Gentoa, one crab claw going across his chest, mimicking his arm.
"My queen, though it may be difficult traveling, it is in our best interests to keep moving, so as to secure a suitable guardian. This city has several overt dangers, and quite possibly many more hidden ones. We should make haste to our next destination, wherever that may be!"
Gash puts his pen down and lifts his head out of his notebook. "It is of my opinion fair ladies that if we were to set up shop somewhere -- perhaps a return to Masa would be suitable? However, that would mean we would be well seen by both heavens and hells... Perhaps we randomly choose a small town off The Long Road and just rent every room in whatever inn we find... I have solved our problems for our rests in the cold but during the day I haven't an idea unless we all get a ring of warmth. It may require some of us to break bonds with other items though... Perhaps it is wise to find a place to settle for the winter... and maybe settle until our Queenlinesses can make a decision upon whose throne they shall sit? Either way I do think we should purchase a home or a tavern with an inn or something. A home base for the time being."

Gash- Lvl14 Goblin Wizard - The High Court of the Aasimar Queen
Bulwark whirs a bit louder than usual as whatever thoughts pass through his construct mind. But the writing is on the wall and Neventi sighs, slumping back down into her chair. Gentoa runs over, as if beckoned, and climbs up into her mother's lap. "Yes, you are probably right," she says. "We are much too exposed here. If we were to leave tomorrow, where would our destination be and what would be our route? I do not wish to go back to Masa. The thought leaves an anxious pit in my stomach."
(Here's the sheet! Looking through, I'm not sure how much Dog knows about it so he's still operating under the assumption that they can only walk west, not teleport. But there seem to be two good options to teleport east to the capital city, bypassing the turnoff to Aucasia's, and going directly to the mage king. And maybe a smaller town elsewhere that I don't know the location of? So that's an option, even sending Gash and someone else to go scout and test things out and come back to report on things. I'm a fan of a time skip -- Dog would love to train a bit more to perhaps level up after those two big fights, and the narrative seems like a time skip would work as a breather.)
"We could return east via teleportation and set up a home base somewhere for a while, and we could even come back to Tinosa since we've been here,"Dog says, pinching the bridge of his nose and squinting. He really wishes that they had some way of understanding if they're being listened in on, or looked at, and knew some way to stop it. Nev's amulet protected her, but he wasn't sure if other conversations around her were at all protected. "If we do that, the heavens and hells will know we've stopped progressing down the Long Road to either of their preferred destinations. They, or Passalwyck, might try to move us back on their track, so that's something to be prepared for. I'm not wedded to a longer stop in Tinosa -- it just seemed we earned some goodwill here and it was on the path to the three options."
He sighs, and smiles at the mother and child. "That said, Nev, would you want to entertain an option not on the list? Perhaps just trying to live on your own, away from all of this, with Genny, and whoever else you wanted, and just face any of these threats that might try to control you in a year? Or what would you think about trying to have Milil himself take a more active parenting role? Seems he's kind of shirking his responsibility, and since he's divine, he has some power to defend you. If you could snap your fingers and get the future you wanted, what would it be?"
Neventi sighs again. "I don't mind hunkering down someplace safe for the winter, but it will feel like a dark cloud hanging over me if we just stall for a year."
"The inevitable," Neventi says, somewhat sober in her tone. "Facing the consequences of my actions. I lay with a god and so my life cannot be a normal one ever again. I will have to choose a way to live. Prisoner in a cloud city or give Gentoa away to be a princess?"
Neventi strokes her daughter's hair. "At least I HAVE a choice still. If the minotaur had killed me instead of what he did, where would you have taken her?"
“If it was just us, I would have gone to both the mage king and cloud giant to see if they are good, kind people, and if their homes, or palaces, are warm and nurturing places for a child to live. Then pick the best one, or if neither are good, then go off with the people she’s grown to love and trust and make it on our own.”
“You know, I’ve been a bit confused this whole time. It seems someone forgot to mention: your daughter is the child of you and... a god. Like a real god.” Martin sorta takes in the room to see if that little bit just blew by everyone or if everyone knew but him. “Which god?”
Dog’s waiting for Martin’s punchline and when it doesn’t come, his eyes widen.
”We’ve told you the whole story - and that’s the opening chapter, my friend. That’s why we were looking for temples to Milil in Masa? Or am I missing the joke...”
Tock is thoughtful, "It's a good question though. Nev is a single parent and while the circumstances are extraordinary and even supernatural then still the question remains - where's the father?"
He looks at Neventi, "Do you have a way to contact him? What does he think of this whole thing?"
Looking at Dog and Gash, "Or did the angels tell us that? All I remember is a lot of running and a whole bunch of bad guys from Hells. Kind of a blur of survival instincts taking over and I may have forgotten some important details."
Dog is glad Tock is pushing a bit more on his question about Milil.
“Here’s a wild idea, Nev. We could all use the helm to teleport to Marctenus, where we met you, and I think where you are from? See Barbadan? Answer Martin and Althus’ questions about this whole story? Get some perspective? Even just for a few days and then we could either come back here or somewhere else. When was the last time you heard from Milil?”
Dog’s waiting for Martin’s punchline and when it doesn’t come, his eyes widen.
”We’ve told you the whole story - and that’s the opening chapter, my friend. That’s why we were looking for temples to Milil in Masa? Or am I missing the joke...”
“I think I arrived after that. I had no idea what brought you to Masa. I joined up to look for a murderer, then there was mention of prophecy, and then that whole business of a treaty between heavens and hells that we couldn’t look at. No one mentioned anything about Milil to me.” Martin shrugs.
”... are there other people who are... like your daughter?”
“The temple thing was right after we first met Viviora, which was after you joined us, and I’m pretty sure Nev mentioned it at least once, but no matter! There’s a lot of things to remember, and this is a very odd scenario to find oneself in. You ask a good question too - do we know of any other children with half-divine provenance? What happened to them? I haven’t found much in my research.” He taps the stack of dog-eared and bookmarked books he’s been reading through.

Tock makes a very realistic fart sound, sees nobody laughing and sinks into contemplation.
Gentoa wrinkles her nose and says "Eewwwwwwww", which does garner some chuckles from the crowd.
