Gash breathes heavily. "uh oh boy. this is embarrassing. Excuse me, Mr. Watchperson. You've been very kind. More kind than most would be. My name is Gash, though sometimes I tell people its Gregory. Gash is such a harsh sounding name, it scares people but you weren't scared of a crazed goblin yelling after a woman. This," he points to Martin,"is one of my friends. I'm much more calm now, and if you don't mind, I'm going to let him take me for a rest..."
(ooc: boy was I at a loss, I didn't prepare sending I basically only had offensive spells at the ready.)
“I sort of hate you right now after all the trouble you put us through. I’ll have you know we almost died!! But we have a slightly more pressing concern... where are N and G?” Martin gives a sidelong glance at the guards, unsure of how far to trust them.
"We found these 'letters corresponding with a Servant of Baphomet dated more than a month ago to prepare to intercept Gentoa and/or her mother and kill her protectors. She was strictly told to formulate her own plans and to cease any and all communication upon receiving the instructions until the child was successfully delivered to the warlock Aucasia'," Dog says, blinking.
He shows Althus, Bulwark, and Tock the loot he'd gathered along with Tock that the party will get to divvy up and perhaps sell:
25 antique books (750 gp total), Electrum Cloth Robe (750 gp), Platinum Cloth Cloak (750 gp), 35 expensive dresses (750 gp total), Copper Amphora (750 gp), Fine Steel Plate Armor (750 gp), Platinum Flask inlaid with Electrum (750 gp), Sable Belt (750 gp); 2 x Potion of Healing (common, dmg 187), Spell Scroll (Darkvision) (uncommon, dmg 200), Goggles of Night (uncommon, dmg 172) and a locked chest. A Potion of Growth and 8000 gold. 5000 gold and 2 Potions of Greater Healing. A mariner's armor breastplate and 1000 gold.
He then uses the sending stone to message Nev that they defeated the vampire, and are coming back to the temple, and asks if they are okay. (Dog, as did his player, momentarily forgot that they stashed them safely in the temple, not the inn.)
"Let's head to the temple to update the local authorities, Helm's acolytes, and reunite with Nev and Genny."
Dog is surprised to find Martin and Gash, thankfully back to his old self, sitting at the city watch's central command already. A long explanation later and they are free to leave, with city watch officers dispatched to scour Garielle's house. Dog also has the wherewithal to inquire as to whether a bounty had been issued for the creatures in the mason's shop. This garners him some weary looks from his comrades. The on duty officer tells him it was too soon for one to have been issued.
Bulwark is waiting for them at the temple, where Neventi and Gentoa are sleeping safely. It is just before dawn when the party finally arrives. They make it back to the White Crane in time for an early breakfast and then everyone falls fast asleep.
(Everyone is back together. The ordeal with Garielle is wrapped up. And everyone has completed a long rest. Whew! What's next?)
"That... was an experience. Gash, are you you again? Thanks for finding him, Martin."He tells Nev all about the evening, and the trap laid for her, Genny, and her protectors, after he eats about three full breakfasts. "We can probably expect more of those. We literally walked right into that one, and almost lost everything. Might want to be more careful in the future. They know we're coming, they know the route, and have found ways around the accords by careful planning. What's next? Taking down the golem hiding in the mason's shop? Get going? By way of another route?"
If it were up to Dog, he'd skip the robit bounty -- they have plenty of money, and getting a move on might be a good idea. Though he still doesn't know where Nev wants to go. Has she said anything about that?
He'll also share all their loot for disbursement into the bag of holding/party members' purses, and ask if someone wants any items in particular. Does this town have okay shops for magic items? And how are the horses/transporation/food? It's been a while :)
It is late afternoon when everyone is finally awake. Gentoa is playfully tugging on one of Althus' crab limbs while Neventi is preparing supper. "I was thinking," she says while she stirs a pot over the fireplace. "That we have a year before the Accords will do anything about Genny. With the vampire gone, we could rent a house here and stay in Tinosa for a while. Nobody could touch us, assuming the Hells didn't plan for more than a vampire and a blatant demonic construct trap. We might actually be safe here for a good while. And maybe, by the time we leave, whatever else the Hells tried to set up against us will have run its course. Or we will at least have a better idea of what path to take."
She continues to stir in silence while the others consider her words.
“Been running a long time, Nev,”Dog says with a sigh and a smile. He plays “scary face/puppy dog face” with Genny a little, hoping for some laughter after such a dark night. “I can understand wanting some stability and rest. I’m not opposed, though I barely know this city. I’ll take a walk this afternoon - anyone is welcome to join me - and get a feel for it, if it’d be a good place to spend a month or twelve. And if you can think about, and maybe research, what you want to decide, that would be helpful. If we do decide to stay here, I’d lean toward us clearing that masonry shop. It’s trapped because of us and the local authorities might appreciate it. What do the rest of you think?”
The adventurers take a few days to recover from their all-night encounter with the vampire. They also have follow-up interviews with investigators from the city watch. None of it proves to be problematic but the city definitely is surprised to find that a vampire was living among them. Town criers and gossips alike spread the news of Garielle's uncovering and her demise. Thus, the party become minor, flash-in-the-pan celebrities for a tenday.
During that tenday, winter arrives in full force. It grows cold enough to freeze the puddles in the gutters and even snows one night. On the third day of their celebrity status, the bounty for the constructs inhabiting the mason's shop is finally issued. The party also get a chance to take in Tinosa, finding shops of all kinds, including armorers, weaponsmiths, bowyers, enchanters, and more...
"Suggestion: It is perhaps a possibility, if staying here is the course of action decided upon, that we might be able to lay claim to the slain vampire's abode. That would provide a somewhat easy avenue of housing, should the city agree to such a thing."
Althus shrugs uncomfortably at Bulwark's suggestion, "It's there, but who knows what sort of stuff is hidden in that building. We should probably double check it and clear it out, make sure there aren't any other hidden undead. If we're going to stay in the city, and it looks like we will, with this weather, we should probably gear up as best we can and take out that automaton."
"Bulwark, I was just thinking the same thing -- I bet the city doesn't know what to do with it. I'd really like to find out who owned it, how Garielle got there. We could clear it out and have it consecrated by the temple. And yes, I'm game for taking up the bounty on the automaton, so I'll be right behind anyone who's game for that. I've been having some of the most interesting conversations drinking with locals in the tavern about our adventure. Don't think I've paid for a drink since I got here."
Dog will inquire about the ownership of the vampire mansion, offering to the relevant authorities to clear it out and take it over -- after the city watch tries to contact the families of the bodies in there and it can be cleansed, that is.
"Who's up for taking down this automaton while we consider spending a bit of time in Tinosa? Althus I know, but anyone else? We can prepare ourselves and our spells for the fight. It spat acid, and had flames inside, and seemed very strong. I'm ready when you are. Seems we could throw a bunch of magic and ranged weapons at it through the door, trying to avoid the acid that'll come out at us. I'll have to see if the bounty mentions trying to preserve the masonry items inside. I have that shatter spell that would hurt the automatons a lot, but it would also turn the stonework items inside to powder."
Dog will check out the weaponsmith, armorer, and enchanter before preparing for the automaton, and then the city authorities who keep the bounty and also handle the future of Garielle's house.

Tock stands up from his hiding place and yawns.
"I'm glad it's over and I'm glad you're back, Atlhus. Lets get out of here."
He will take Dog by hand and guide him outside. "Do we have a way of contacting Martin or Gash?"
And to himself, "I hope the rhino got out all right."
(I added the contents of the last chest to inventory of Tock)
“I don’t know. I was looking for them. I’m sure they are where they’re supposed to be. I just wasn’t thinking clearly.”
(I gotta put the sending stones on the spread sheet.)

(Should be a decent shopping town but not as big or connected as Masa.)

"I'll admit to a certain amount of interest in addressing the golem issue. I know we should probably get going, but it seems right to go help."
Martin bobs his head back and forth a bit, like he's wavering back and forth with the idea.

Tock says, "I am prepared for both options. We can actually ask for divine guidance on this. I have learned of a way to do that and have it prepared."
(he can cast Augury)
And we can also be far away from out path by teleporting.
