Smirking at something, Ned throws two more copper onto the pile, picks up the old tin cup and dice, blows on them before saying to Ro and the others as he tossed the small bone cubes onto the tabletop,'

Ned: 1,3, 5 kept - rolls: 53
With a casual shrug at the results, Ned says as he hands Ro the tin cup,'
"Well, I guess my lucks turned for the worse. Your turn."

Ned's fake grimace at Ro's roll is obvious to the eyes of those watching, the rough, black-haired man being a terrible actor it would seem. Regardless, even as the group's spokesman theatrically pretends to curse the fates for his ill luck, the other three men each take their turns rolling dice from the dented tin cup onto the much scratched tabletop.

Even as the discussion is taking place at their table, an angry buzz seems to have arisen around the Crate's tap-room. Looking up from his own unfolding situation, A'ro witnesses Kay's failed attempt to slip unnoticed into the tavern's corner, also catching sight of Kestrell near the bar. It would seem that the navigator has been engaged in conversation with a number of the tavern's other patrons, though all attention seems to swing in the direction of the suddenly identified and isolated young sail monkey as a hard-faced man sitting at an adjacent table, who looks vaguely familiar to the genasi, shouts out,'
"Her... It's her... She... The one who killed Gaut. Murderer!"

"If you have a cloak that will fit me, I would indeed be interested." Vaken says as he turns toward the far corner of the warehouse. "And having something for the down times would be good. Let's go with the deck of cards."

Horgoth nods his head at his large goliath customer, smiling in an accomodating fashion as he says,'
"Yeah, you're a big one, no doubt. But that cloak and blanket were both made from foul weather cargo tarps, so will fit even you readily enough. And the cards are a fine choice. Something to stave off deck-fever on those long voyages can only be a good idea."
As the friendy shop keeper is talking, Vaken's eyes scan the clutered assortment of odds and ends stacked upon the tables and benches in the warehouses's far corner. Being some distance from the corner, the goliath cook really only notices the large, purple and orange-dyed woolen rug that covers the floor of the corner and what looks to be a more varied selection of strange and colourful items on the table and shelves in the examined area.
Noticing the direction of his towering customer's attention, Horgoth scratches his furry cheek as he says with an obvious note of pride,'
"Ohh, maybe you're heard of my private collection? Most of what Gunter brings me or what otherwise comes through my door I put up for sale... with the more interesting items for sale going on the table and shelves in that very corner. But the MOST interesting things... well, I'm something of a magpie I am, no mistaking it. Caught the collecting bug when I was just a lad, and now that I'm grown and have the means to do so... Otherwise... well, I may even offer to buy said curiosities from you... seeing as I just can't seem to help myself a lot of the time. The gruff voice calls out, causing the accuser, who does indeed look more than a little drunk, to turn angrily to glare behind him at a stout looking halfling man with a stitched deerhide vest, wide broad-brimmed hat and thick, untrimmed mustache who is sitting by himself near the room's corner. The halfling man was looking over an unfurled scroll and just so happens to look up as the angry drunk and a few other patrons look his way. Seemingly confused by the attention, the halfling answers in a noticeably higher pitched voice than that created by Kestrell, "What? What are you all looking at them?"
The accuser seems uncertain at the discrepancy between the voices, as do a few of the men around him, at which point the man who Kestrell has been speaking with and who Dekket had just brought drinks for speaks into the confused silence, saying with a firm tone,'
"She might be the one who stuck Guat... or she might not. Doesn't matter none really, since if anyone causes trouble after this morning's stabbing and what happened the other night at the Pirate... well, i'd not want to be the one standing before the Cove Warden to explain it, and that's the honest truth."
Kestrell's timely distraction and Klain's blunt words and obvious insinuation regarding Golm's potential displeasure seems enough to take the bluster out of the accuser whose shoulders just slump inwards as he leans forward to sip at his beer miserably. Seeing the young woman's main antagonist give us his building tirade, the rest of the room likewise seems to lose interest. Looking around, it is not hard to note that the two large barmen had drawn short, thick truncheons from their belts, while the even larger tavern keeper had taken a step towards what looks like a tappered cylindrical club made of polished hardwood. As the tavern's crowd go back to drinking, gambling and otherwise enjoying their night, Klain leans in between Kestrell and Dekket to say somewhat conspiratorially,'
"That's for the drinks and the job offer, even if I'm not taking it. Besides, Brut is a useless fool and Brannin's nothing more than a bully. Not worth spit, either of them, nor any other of their lickspittle group. The only reason they still have their jobs at the refinery is because they act as Miss Danferit's lapdogs... well that and because good, honest capable hardwork don't seem to mean as much round here anymore.
Be warned though friends... If Brannin's in the smoking room, you might want to avoid it. Stupid and hot-headed as he is, he's not likely to be as easily talked down as the rest of these numbskulls."

That's very good to know Horgoth. I'll be keeping an eye out for curiosities then. But I think the cloak and cards will be enough for today.
Vaken pays Horgoth, dons his new cloak and puts the cards in his pack and then heads to the Rusted Crate.
The friendly shop keeper smiles but seems mildly dissapointed not to have further opportunity to show off his wares, but nods as he takes Vaken's coins and hands across the purchased items, saying,'
"Fair enough, Vaken. More than fair. Well, best of luck on your voyages and if you do find anything of interest, well you know where to find me. And don't worry about the herbs and powdered milk, as I'll have them brought over to the ship right early tomorrow morning I will. Good day."
Leaving the store as the cool night falls, the goliath cook walks North up the wharf, noting the large number of sailors walking up and down the dockside streets. It is clear that a few vendors have stayed open latter than usual to take advantage of the increased business, and the smell of sizzling meats and the sound of hawkers fills the salt scented air. Walking back past the pier bracketed by the two caravels, Vaken notices a large number of sailors sitting along the pier between the two ships, crates and barrels beings used as make shift chairs and tables. The Shark's cook also spots a couple of wandering Warden patrols and another couple of the militia members stationed outside the Prancing Pirate.
Reaching the seemingly misnamed tavern, Vaken walks in to note a dirty, fairly run-down bar that makes the Pirate look clean and well-kept by comparison. The smallish tap-room is filled with a few sailors, but also many men and women who look to be locals who work the farms and other busineses here in Rumbottom. Walking forward towards the much scratched and stained bar, as well as the large surly looking barman behind it, the goliath sees Kestrell and Kay at the bar besides another couple of men, while A'ro seems to be engaged in a game of dice not too far away.
[OOC] Vaken can make a history check DC 10 as he enters and read the below spoiler on a success:
From your time working in the Prancing Pirate, you're aware that most of the patrons of the inn and tavern don't frequent the other establishment, generally sticking to their drinking hole of choice. The Pirate seemed known as the place to hang out if you were a fisherman or sailor, or liked the tales of such or wanted to book passage, while the Crate was more for hard-nosed locals who didn't much care for the tall tales of travellers or their often foreign ways. Barney Barney, the tavern's behemoth proprietor, and his two surly sons, Buck and Earl, kept things orderly at the Crate through threats and, when necessary violence, and due to the rough clientelle of trappers, hunters, scouts, farmers and refinery workers, violence was never far from being required.

Vaken walks up to the bar and nods to the barman and asks for an ale before looking over to Kestrell and Kay with a smile, "I just purchased some herbs and spices to help keep the food onboard interesting. How are y'all doing?"
Kay continues to look around the room nervously as she says to the barman, "ll'take whate'er you have that's cheap and weak, I can see that I'll need t'keep m'wits about t'night." She tugs on the rope she used as a make-shift sling for her crossbow, her dexterous fingers plucking it idly.

"Thanks for the advice and the help " says Dekket to Klain.
"Yes, Klain, that was quick thinking even though it was the truth, thanks for speaking up. Let me buy you and your boys another round. And yes, we will stay out of the smoking room."
"Barkeep, six more please."
As Kay comes up, "Make that seven."
Right as the order for seven is put through, Vaken walks in and Kestrell says:"And add whatever he is having to this round, I'll get it, Vaken. Spices you say? That's fantastic, I'm excited to try what you come up with!"
She smiles weakly as Vaken approaches, "M'all right, misjudged a step or two t'day. Was lookin' after th'lost provisions th'captain mentioned, but no luck t'be had."
"Well, let's just put it out there. Barkeep. We're looking for provisions that were lost from our boat during loading. We'd like to get them back. Can you point us in the right direction?" Kestrell adds another gold piece on top of the coin that he is sliding over for the round of drinks.

The dark-haired Ned grunts a negative response to Ro's proposed ante amount, saying instead,'
"Nah, **** four coppers. You came here showing gold, mate. Let's see more of it. I'm setting the ante at one gold piece. You in or out?"

"Thanks for the advice and the help " says Dekket to Klain.
" Dekket " he introduces himself to Kay with a slight tap on his hood. "May I suggest a change of air while those gentelmen are still thinking about the words of our friend?"

She smiles weakly as Vaken approaches, "M'all right, misjudged a step or two t'day. Was lookin' after th'lost provisions th'captain mentioned, but no luck t'be had."

"Yes, Klain, that was quick thinking even though it was the truth, thanks for speaking up. Let me buy you and your boys another round. And yes, we will stay out of the smoking room."
"Barkeep, six more please."
As Kay comes up, "Make that seven."
Right as the order for seven is put through, Vaken walks in and Kestrell says: "And add whatever he is having to this round, I'll get it, Vaken. Spices you say? That's fantastic, I'm excited to try what you come up with!"
"Well, let's just put it out there. Barkeep. We're looking for provisions that were lost from our boat during loading. We'd like to get them back. Can you point us in the right direction?" Kestrell adds another gold piece on top of the coin that he is sliding over for the round of drinks.
