Pike Brickbane's office is in a nondescript two-storey stone building in one of the nicer areas of Dogtown. The building is old but in good repair, with ivy growing up the outside of it and even a small Willow tree growing in a roughly walled front garden. Anywhere else in Dun Farum this house would be sneered at, but in Dogtown it is a palace.
It's raining hard and you hurry inside. A couple of guards on the ground floor lazily look up from their game of cards and, recognising you, wave you upstairs. "He's expecting you" one of them says gruffly.
Pike's office is fairly spartan. A few paintings of landscapes hang on the walls and a chest of drawers lies against one wall under the window. Pike's large dark wooden desk dominates the bulk of the room and he reclines behind it. He's a thickset human in his fifties. Despite his greying hair and advancing age, you can tell he was a strong young man and maintains an impressive physicality. He's smoking a pipe which he takes out of his mouth as you enter. He breaks into a wide smile.
"Greetings, greetings! Do come in! I've got a job for you." There are no chairs so you stand in front of him.
"So, here's the thing lads and lass, it seems a new band of thieves has appeared in town and they're causing a problem. Headed in from Brackwood from what I hear. Bunch of halflings who don't know how things operate around here. Call themselves the Crimson Rebels. And I've had complaints that they've been robbing stores in Dogwood that have paid us for protection. Even worse, they haven't been sharing the take with us! What I would like you to do is find them and bring them into the Silver Blades family. By my reckoning, they owe us about 1000 gold in backpay and fines for going up against us. Find them, collect the gold, get them to sign this contract agreeing to our rules of business and there need be no blood spilled." He slides a contract across the desk towards you.
"If they refuse, however, you're to make an example of them. We can't have upstarts undermining us now, can we? I expect you to return in 24 hours with the job done. Your pay will be 100 gold each. I heard they like to frequent the Rusty Nail Tavern over on Hangman's Lane, you might want to start there. Any questions?"
Erik Haus, A human in his mid twenties, wearing a dark cloak and leather clothes. His hair a dark brown color his face cleanly shaved with green eyes. He raises his hand and speaks "Other than the 1000 gold that's due are we allowed to taken anything else?"

Pike leans back in his chair and smiles at Erik. "The Godfather has been clear that he wishes to expand our operations - if it is possible to strike up a good relationship with this band of thieves, then we all benefit. As such, we ask only for what we are entitled to - our share of their recent takings, compensation for their transgressions against the Blades and a commitment to work with us on our terms in the future. If they agree to this, they will be part of the family and you must take nothing further from them. If they do not agree, however, all they have is fair game and I leave to your... creativity how to punish them in such a way nobody will dare cross us again."
Laza Darkborn, is a slightly smaller than average Tabaxi, both in height and weight. His fur and even the pads on his paws are black as night, though his eyes shine silver. He's wearing dark dark grey lose fitting comfortable clothing, and has a crystal in his paw that he's moving around like one might a pair of stress balls. Hearing the orders from the boss a small smile appears on his face, he simply nods at the orders, and reaches out to take the contract (and a pen) which he rolls up and puts in his pouch.
Ruhvon sits in a corner near a window. The grimy and odorous figure with a rat's nest mix of silver and blonde hair is peering out. With reddish-blue eyes he takes in an atypical view - for him - of the city. However, there is still something familiar the way that the figures below dash through the rain, much like that of rats skipping through the sewers. His slightly pointed ears listen to the details of the mission.
"Where do they operate?"says the half-elf with a phlegmy voice without looking from the window.
Harpy dressed in the style of an expensive flirtatious tart wears a revealing tight-fitting black silken bodice, matching open breeches and chaps crouches down low to the floor, her wings folded up behind her as she listens and looks everyone over obviously pleased for the opportunity to prove herself...
She gazes warmly at Pike Brickbane and bows, nodding her head, "understood." Then looks at the other ready discuss things further or get right to business and head out... as they prefer.
A stout dwarf with light brown hair pulled into a braided knot. A mildly short beard for a dwarf, with specks of red and copper throughout as if rusted iron has sprinkled in the hair. A set of small spectacles rest on a wide nose. “Halflings tend to be quick, we need to be quicker”. As he nods to the rest of the party
"How many of them must be left to sign the contract? " ask Rothnar, a young human male with dark hair and brown eyes, with his low voice.
"If some of them are unwilling to sign, they should be made an example of. Any that are willing to sign should be allowed to. Providing we get the gold we're owed in full of course..."

"We don't know where their base is exactly. They've been spotted in the Rusty Nail tavern on Hangman's Lane." Pike consults a notebook before continuing "And the shops they stole from are Katar's Emporium, The Pantry, and Aelid's Goods and Sundries - all near Hangman's Lane. So I'd suggest looking around there. It's midday now, I'll expect you to return by midday tomorrow with the gold and a signed contract or a gruesome story of their demise." He chuckles at the thought as he ushers you towards the door.
As the party leaves Erik will address the group "As you all know, I prefer we don't use violence unless we are forced. So..let's...get...this...job...done...QUICKLY...and CLEAN."
The group knows Erik to be a little on the stuck up side as he never actually lived in Dogtown and has only recently moved down here. But Pike has his reasons right? To invite a scholar into the fold.

Harpy moves closer and lightly rubs up against Erik, "of course we can just ask them nicely and no doubt they will comply... I for one have no problem with you taking the lead and negotiating with them on our behalf," she quips with a shrug not really overly concerned about the specifics of it all.
She then turns to Pike in a playful familiar voice and asks, "is there anything else special you would like me to pick up for you Papa? You know, while I am out and about, say a bottle of your favorite wine or those sweetmeats you favor. I would need a little pocket money though, I fear I've gone through this week's allowance already," giving him a rather sad pitiful look.
Brayton stops at Erik before fully leaving. Pushing up his glasses “You know we’re going to have to rough up at least one, right? Give them a reason to listen.... it’s always the same.” He pats Erik on the should, shakes his head, then walks out

"Yes, well let's get to it then." Erik leaves heading to the shops that got hit by the Crimson Rebels.
The journey to Hangman's Lane takes about half an hour by foot. The rain has turned much of the roadways into mud, which slows your progress. This area of town in much more run down. Beggars huddle from the rain in most doorways and the buildings are made of wood and many are in need of urgent repairs. The Rusty Nail has three storeys are seems to lean precariously out into the street. The rowdy sounds of music and drunks shouting rings out from inside. It's in better shape than some of the buildings around it but still has a broken window on the ground floor with a bar stool and broken glass lying on the ground in front of it in the street.
The Pantry is visible a few doors down from the Rusty Nail. It's a small shop with a dirty blue canopy outside it covering an assortment of fruits and vegetables laid out on trays. Katar's Emporium and Aelid's Good and Sundries aren't visible, but you know they're down side streets branching off Hangman's Lane, no more than a two minute walk from where you stand. Where would you like to go?

Harpy grins at the flash of gold, her greedy eyes fixating on it as it moves through the air towards her... she reaches out Dex 17 her wings fluttering with excitement as she easily catches it in her hand without making a show of it! Giving her PaPa a sly wink as they both know the sweetmeats are really her preferred treats.
Later, on the journey, Harpy can be heard... moaning and groaning, *****ing and whining about the rain using her wings to help keep some of the rain off her as she trudges alongside the others.
Once they arrive at the Rusty Nail she pauses and looks at Erik, "what's the plan boss spread out to the shops and ask questions? Or do we all just go into the Nail together and make a show of it or did you want to station someone at the backdoor to play lookout just in case they are inside and look to bolt or something?"
As they walk, though quieter than Harpy, Laza is also rather unhappy in the rain ((would you allow prestidigitation to be used to dry him when they arrive?)), but is walking a bit faster than normal to get out of the weather. Good thing it's a short walk.
Erik will turn to the group "Yeah let's just head inside and figure out what happen then we'll hit the other establishments. Harpy and Rothnar wait around back and the rest of us will head inside. Let's keep our eyes open for any halflings."
