Going into the room and seeing the halflings attempting to flee, Laza will agree with Ruhvon's voice from below saying "Yes, stay up and let's talk. This needn't get messy."

"Well fellas you have two choices, we could fight and we'll probably kill you all. Or you "Crimson Rebels" can integrate with us "Silver Blades". I prefer we avoid the bloodshed if, you pay for the damages you have caused and sign our contract no harm will come to you."
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Felix Windfall (Human-V Lv.7 Rogue) killed in ToA,Vallan Houndstrider (Halfling Ghostwise Lv.1 Fighter) in DiA
The halflings look at each other - it appears they're a little intimidated by you all and don't want to start a fight, but they're not ready to roll over and surrender either. A couple of them unsheathe daggers and one knocks an arrow to his bow and aims back at Rothnar. One of the halflings is carrying a longsword and appears to be their leader. He says carefully "Aye, we'll talk. We have no desire to hurt you either. I assure you me and my boys can hold our own. But, I'll warn you, try any funny stuff and you'll regret it." They begin to ascend back into the backroom of the house with their weapons pointed at you, ready to respond to any aggression.
When you get upstairs they take up a defensive posture in a corner of the room "Now, what is it you want? To join with the Silver Blades? Why would we do that?"
In case it's relevant to how you want to approach this - the contract is a fairly standard Silver Blades freelance thieve's contract. It basically states that they swear fealty to the Blades, they won't hit any targets that are on a blacklist (essentially, those who pay protection money or are big and important enough that the authorities would actually take the trouble to actually find the culprits) and that 30% of their take be given to the Silver Blades.
"Look lads." Laza begins, again palming his crystal, ready to cast a spell if need be, "You've been stepping on some toes much bigger than yours. This area is owned by, and under protection of, the Silver Blades. I'm just going to assume you know not only who they are, but what they can do. They sent us as their 'ambassadors' if you will to come talk you down. No one wants any unnecessary bloodshed right? You'll all be allowed to keep working, as long as you follow some simple rules, and pay a bit of tribute. It starts with 1000 gold, which I'll remind you is far less than your lives are worth, for the offenses you've committed against the Blades, and then you just have to follow some simple rules..." Laza then goes on to explain the contract, and pulls it out of his bag to show them. He ends saying "A simple signature, and thumb print in blood, is enough for us to know you'll not betray us, and then you can all leave here to continue your work."
intimidation86 (advantage for everyone pointing weapons at them?) ((fuuuuuck... even with advantage that was shit. guess we're gonna fight... ㅜㅜ))
(I’m assuming that we would have time to come up the scaffolding?)
Brayton takes the time to find anything to cover up the whole in the ground so they can’t make a quick escape. He will then stand behind the leader, presumably the one who talked beforehand.
Ruhvon ascends up the scaffolding, following as the halflings retreat above. He stands guard over the exit to the sewers below, with his staff glowing its sick green energy as the situation becomes tense. "We don't need all of you to agree,"he says with a chuckle, hacking up something and then spitting it down the chute.

Absolutely, you can climb the scaffolding. There's nothing to hand to cover up the hole (it's fairly large) but the group of you are able to stand such that you block both the door and the hole from the halflings simultaneously. The defensive posture of their group makes it difficult to get behind them, the best you can do is to flank them.

(OOC: How many halflings are we looking at here?)
There are five halflings. They all look pretty scruffy, as you might expect from a group that had been crawling around the sewers.

The halflings listen to you intensely. When you say they need to pay 1000 gold they visibly scoff. "1000 gold?! That's a bit steep my feline friend! We don't have that much money and, even if we did we wouldn't give it to you. Now, I've got an offer for you. How about you turn around, get out of our hideout and tell your masters that the Crimson Rebels answer to nobody. If they've got a problem, they can come down here themselves. I'm going to give you until the count of three to get out before we redecorate with your innards." He holds up a single stubby finger. "One..." The other halflings look fairly resolute behind their leader, although you can tell they're tense.
At the sound of him counting down. By the time we hear 2, Brayton rages and brings his axe in a horizontal motion swinging to decapitate the halflings or at least take his three fingers he is holding up.
No advantage I'm afraid (there's nobody else adjacent to this guy), but it doesn't matter. The halfling leader loses his head in an instant. It rolls to the floor and bounces with a dull thud. Blood spurts to the ceiling. His body slumps to the floor. There's a beat. Then chaos breaks loose.
Initiative roll for the halflings:
4
If you roll higher than a 4, go ahead and take your turn.
Laza, seeing the head roll, and the others start to react ((initiative 23 in OOC)) sends his mage hand over to the head to pick it up and hold it over the body it was recently attached to. As the blood drips down from it he simply says "He didn't want to sign... how about the rest of you?"
Brayton will position himself in combat range of a halfling and be ready to strike if they continue to be hostile. Otherwise he will take a deep breath and relax.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Harpy just silently shakes her head watching things get bloody fast, reluctant but ready to enter into the fray herself if the Halflings don't wise up quick!
Harpy keeps quiet but stays at the ready still topside to wrangle any Halfings that might attempt to flee.
