This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Hunding attacks the tree again with his axe. This time on his swing, he removes a large part of the side of the tree dealing 13 damage.
Rhaucred is slowly seeming to stabilize. He is getting closer and closer. Only one more successful roll and he will be stable.
TT casts frostbite on the tree (Cons save 8). Ice begins to grow, on the branches causing 1 damage and forcing disadvantage on it's next attack!
Nedrick follows up Hunding's attack and strikes the innards of the tree causing 11 points of damage.
As Nedrick's blade thrust into the tree, the branches go motionless. The boulder in it's branches falls to the floor and the tree is defeated! The tree mutters something in a language that indiscernible to most.
The water in the pool is completely drained and the water coming from the waterfall is now draining in the hole underneath the body. Hunding can see that there is a passage or something below. Still wrapped in a single root is the staff, held gently by the tree, even in death.

mort hands the staff to TT and takes a giant swig of his flask....before spitting it out at the sudden realization of rhaucred’s mangeled body.
He hikes up his tattered robe to his knees and runs to rhaucreds aid in an attempt to stabilize him.
Mort notices that the staff has a seqoiah handle and is magically enchanted. The antlers are white and almost shine in the darkness of the cave. This magical staff seems to be crafted in a religious fashion with a connection to Chlorocebus.
TT interprets the giant tree's last words under her breath: "Failed the forests ..?"
Taking the staff from Mort, TT feels the weight of responsibility placed upon her. "The balance must be maintained..."
Her thoughts are interrupted by the more immediate priority before her. Generating a handful of good berries, she immediately begins to shove them in Rhaucred's mouth.
As soon as TT receives the staff from Mort she if filled with a sense of calm and relaxation. She can feel that the staff has a story to it. She will need a long rest to figure out more though.
Rhaucred is given the berries by TT and is helped consume them due to his unconscious state. After consuming one, he comes back from the brink of death.
Blood still dribbles from his nose and head as Rhaucred slowly regains conciousness. A large portion of his head is blackened and his hair matted with blood. "I do not feel good. No more accepting stones from giant trees."
Rhaucred has the next decision. There are still unexplored passageways on the current floor, there is also a hole that has been opened up that goes deeper into the cave. You can decide to do a long rest first if you would like. Just let me know the watch order, otherwise I will roll for it.
Options 1 and 2 are on the same level and whereas option 3 leads deeper into the cave (a level below).
The group sets up for a long, well deserved rest near the waterfall of the cave. The group sets up a watch order. Mort is first up to watch and during his watch he is surprised to see what appears to be a giant fire beetle poke his head in the room at the end of the cave, but it turns around and runs back the other direction. Nedrick, Rhaucred and TT all complete their watch without any issue.
TT spends her rest sleeping and studying the newly found staff. She is able to discover that the staff is the Staff of Chlorocebus (now in her inventory). As she rests, she dreams that she is in a vast forest. She wanders the forest accompanied by a fairy and a butterfly. She has never had a dream like this before, but when she awakes, she knows that he staff was influencing her dreams.
Staff of Chlorocebus
The Staff of Chlorocebus is made of sequoia wood enchanted by the druids of the fey forest. Adorning the top of the staff are antlers, rumored to be antlers of Chlorocebus himself, held firmly in place by a strip of red leather. This weapon can be used as a magical javelin, using the antlers to make piercing attacks. Nature seems to spontaneously react around the staff. If the staff is left in place for 8 hours, flowers will begin to spontaneously grow around it, regardless of environment. The staff is soft to the touch and fills the wielder with a sense of calm, giving them advantage on effects that would afflict them with the Frightened effect.
There seem to be more secrets to this staff, but at current attunement, the wielder can cast the following spells:
Spirits of the Forest (Up to 3 times per 24 hours): You create up to two glowing butterflies or fairies that hover in the air for up to 1-hour. Whichever form you choose, each spirit sheds light in a 30-foot radius. These spirits are translucent and can no take any actions except emitting light. As a bonus action on your turn, you can move the spirits up to 60 feet to a new spot within range. A spirit must be within 30 feet of the other spirit created by this spell or both spirits will wink out of existence.
Enchanted Dreams (Once attuned and on a long rest with the staff): The staff tells stories of its past to the wielder every uninterrupted long rest. In these dreams the wielder embarks on a journey and can attempt to remember these events following the rest period with a DC of 11. On a successful check, the user remembers the dream, but on a failed attempt, the user is unable to remember the events and will have to relive the dream on the next rest attempt.
Proficiency with a javelin allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.
The group is now well rested and is ready to continue their adventure, wherever Rhaucred chooses.
OOC: now is a great time to do some RP if you wish and maybe discuss where you guys want to go
Mort continues to study (The color blue is text from the book. Let me know if it is easier to read this way or if you want it in all black)
"The Fallacy of Necromancy" starting with Chapter 1: The Effects of the Length of Death Before Animation.
This chapter details the journey of the necromancer to a village that Mort has not heard of before...
Erected on top of a covert, the village of Perthlochry is home to humans lead by Captain Hanson.
The village itself is remote enough to not draw any attention and the access to the lake will be important when I need to import supplies. Perthlochry has a intriguing atmosphere. The main attraction is the market, which was built 48 years ago and designed by giants. This village wasn't built by a covert by accident, as it has a broken, hidden library, which may prove useful to me. Perthlochry has a prosperous economy, which is mainly supported by carpentry, animal training and wine-making, thus allowing a great way for me to get the supplies I need.
I will instill fear into the heart of the people of Perthlochry, and use a group of skeletons to distract them from my true purpose of fresh corpse reanimation.
The story continues on detailing a night at the graveyard.
I have found a corpse of the late Marshal Golub. His body is about 2 years old. I can use it to reanimate tonight...
Tonight at the graveyard, the gravedigger was close to discovering me. I decided to use a new fear spell on him. I casted it using the skull of Golub, but I was unable to refine it. I will have to continue to develop it in the future.
Mort continues to read the chapter and the progress the necromancer made on the fear spell. Mort can now add the spell Cause Fear to his spellbook, however in order to use it he will have to practice the incantations. This will require a few items: a stone container to temporarily hold water mixed with a drop of Mort's blood, Obsidian rubbed with soot, and a few bones. All these components can be purchased from most towns for 50 gp (or they could be acquired in the world). Once Mort finds these items, he can spend two hours to practice the spell and be able to prepare it for casting.
Mort has read all he can for now and will have to continue on another long rest.
Nedrick dons his leather armor and cloak once more.
"Well that turned from a refreshing bath into a difficult situation. I can't say I have ever fought a tree before. At least not one that moved."
Nedrick takes out a dagger and begins to carve some letters into the "forehead" of the tree.
"Now... I do feel we have been through a bit and seem to be descending deeper into this pit. Possibly we can find something to help us get back to facing these Dark Riders. I am curious of how you all would like to go about the complete and udder eradication of this party of sultry individuals."
Nedrick takes the dagger out of the tree and runs it along his hands.
"Do we begin small attacks similar to an insurgency slowly taking away the reach they have across the realm."
Nedrick places the dagger at his stomach.
"Do we attack their supply lines and slowly bleed them out."
Nedrick puts the dagger to his temple.
"Do we turn them against one another by creating double agents?"
Nedrick puts the dagger to his heart.
"Or do we strike straight at the heart in a suicide mission to take down their leadership?"
"After our last attempt I have to feel that the leaders might currently be a tad above our reach. I don't really think we have enough people to damage their supply lines too meaningfully, unless we plan our moves expertly. I don't know that we have the subtely to be double agents. We should probably continue operations simmilar to dismantling that ship until we get more of an idea what the goals of their organization are and *looking at Hunding* where we might find what we are looking for."
Peeking up from behind his book mort flashes a grin at nedrick
”if you really want to make them hurt, bleed their purse. Find out where they store the coin, all over comstalia, and hit bank after bank. Weaken their influence and get the people on our side by giving it to the poor and wretched victims *hiccup* after taking a cut off the top for our troubles of course. Gravity will do the rest, no organization is immune to the stresses of sudden and intense financial loss. ”
mort takes a swig from his flask and returns to his book
"I like it. We will need to hit and move. Once they begin going missing and coin starts to dry they will be hunting us. That is... If we are able to ever get back to our realm."
Nedrick points at the hole.
"To be honest I was hoping that we would find an alternative exit in this cave and possible come out the other side. It appears it beckons us to go deeper. We came in here for a rest and we have now had one if not brief. I fear very few things but one thing I am not excited to learn more of is the Underdark. I have heard the stories of creatures beneath the Earth. I for one, would much rather face the heat where I can actually see in front of face. I feel that if we proceed into the dark, we will not be playing to our strengths. Back to the surface to find our way home is what I believe is best."
