Nedrick would like to start just pulling the books out of the shelves and piling them up. He wants to see if any of the shelves or the bookcases themselves are concealing anything. He is using his hands to trace along and knocking to find hollow spots.
Investigation: 4
Nedrick stands straight up mid search like a light bulb has gone off and he turns to Mort and raises his eyebrows.
"Say... Don't you have the ability to Detect Magic? How 'bout you give it a go?"
TT searches for food but she in unable to smell anything that is edible near her.
Mort and Nedrick investigate remains of the library. There are multiple piles of burnt wood and books. Most of them are illegible and darkened with soot. After Mort completes his ritual to detect magic, a glow begins to appear from under one of the piles. He investigates to find a book that has seemed to be untarnished by the flames. The front of the book reads in a language that Mort does not understand.
Nedrick and Mort head up the spiral staircase until it reaches a door. The two open it up to reveal the top of a tower that overlooks the surrounding castle. There is a thick layer of ash covering the top of this tower. Mort, with his detect magic still active, sees a faint glow coming from the far side of the tower wall, barely visible through the ash.

Nedrick follows directly behind Mort ready to assist.
(If possible Nedrick would like to help Mort by taking a dagger and gently scooting the ash away. If DM allows this should give Mort advantage on the investigation wich based on +7 modifier the extra roll would be 27)

mort inspects the spyglass, wiping away ash from the lens before holding it to his eye. he scans the room and peers out a window(if there is one) before handing it to nedrick
(Mort and Nedrick are on top of a tower overlooking the castle) Mort has not seen this type of spyglass before, but when he brings it up to his eye he notices something... different. He could of swore that for a brief second, he was able to see through the trees in the distance. But he is not sure. If he wishes, he can study it more over the course of a few hours to determine what is the exact nature of the device and how to use it.
“sharpen your blade my brute companion, we will need it in the battle to come.”
mort winks at hunding as he hikes up his robe and scurries up the staircase into the library

Rooms that you currently know of.
There are two more rooms out the in the gathering hall that you came into (where molten metal was flowing into and you could hear hammering)
There is another spiral staircase in the gathering hall that most likely leads to a tower you saw from the outside.
stroking his beard hair, mort nudges nedrick.
ive got a good feeling about that staircase
Nedrick gives Mort a wink and without a word heads up the staircase.

"Come now, Mort. Let us study these new findings while we rest."
Nedrick would like to spend the next few hours studying the spyglass.
