We are about halfway into my homebrew campaign (the players are begging for a sequel to take us beyond level 10) and we've had a couple of players that have dropped off the map. So we are looking to fill a spot (maaaaybe two spots...). I am the type to check and respond almost constantly, so I'm looking for someone that will similarly be checking in every day and plans to stick with us through at least the next five levels (probably by the end of summer, I'd guess.)
Here are the details:
Fiends and celestials have been spotted all up and down the Long Road of the Mage King. It is an unprecedented event that foretells a dire future. There are numerous reports of several towns on the very end of the Road being attacked by fiends and demons. The capital, where the respected and wise Mage King sits, is presently under no threat. It is more than 1700 miles away from the strife.
We have a druid, a fighter, a wizard, and a rogue/cleric.
Chosen character will enter the game at level 5. This campaign is planned out to finish at level 10. I intend to start plotting the sequel soon, so we may go all the way to 20!
Anything goes for races/classes but we're going for a misfits vibe. Our active group contains a firbolg, a goliath, a goblin, and a kenku, all of whom worked for the same circus at the start of the game. If something is too outlandish, I'll likely pass on it to preserve the vibe and smooth gameplay we have going.
Characters may start with one common wondrous item and 700 gold to spend on anything or hold until you wish to shop.
Characters are generally good-aligned.
You'll get up to speed on the story in-game.
Characters will start either (spoilered in case my players find this thread...don't read this part, my players!):
Lost (injured?) in a labyrinth
As a prisoner or guest of a reclusive village of minotaurs.
A minotaur from the village of minotaurs
An unlikely messenger of the gods (using the standard Faerun pantheon) that meets the party on the Long Road with a message (which we can work out.)
What you need to provide:
Name
Race
Class
Alignment
A brief backstory explaining the adventures that brought the character to be level 5.
In a spoiler: Where you choose the character to enter the game and a summary of how the character came to be there.
What wondrous item (and any other special requests to spend your money on) you wish the character to start with.
Thanks for your submissions! I will choose in just a couple of days, since the point of entry for the chosen character is coming up on us quickly. I'll have the chosen rolled up using point-buy after I've made my selection.
Since he left the armed forces at age 30 he traveled the countryside as a gladiator and enjoyed a good fight but an injury made him leave the ring. He found the monastery where he learned to fight back the pain and is working to get back his title in the ring with his new skills.
Oberyn would be a guest in the village of the minotaur as a performer in a small gladiatorial match.
With the money I would like to start with bracers of defense. As for the wonderous item I would like a pipe of smoke monster to give him the old Gandalf feel.
Always a dreamer, Bava spent lots of time under the seas, pondering possible futures and the ways he could be a great person, to be remembered for his noble deeds. His longing to do good wasn't just a result of his own good nature. A spark of the divine resided in him, bubbling under the surface, part of his being waiting to be released. Having come upon a dying human on the shore he found himself channeling a healing magic into the man, saving him. Since then his powers have grown and he has felt the influence of the divine part of his being shouting louder within him, demanding to be heard.
Bava could perform the role of a messenger from the gods, his divine heritage could allow him the link to whichever god you feel is most appropriate depending on the direction you want to go with.
As a wondrous item Bava would like to have Goggles of Night if possible, healing potions with any additional cash would be great too.

Vhon - Level 2 Warlock - What shall become of the Drunken Sailor?
A brief backstory explaining the adventures that brought the character to be level 5:
Solstice found herself wandering the world with all the wanderlust the Cat God blessed her with. Never staying in one place for longer than a week or two, she searched the world for fascinating artifacts and other things that could be. One of those adventures led to an accident that led her to become bound to a hexblade, not that she minded much. It helped more than it hindered, and the hexblade never seemed to want anything of her. She continued journeying, collecting artifacts and the stories that went along with them. She hoped that bringing them back would have her so her stories would feel more real.
In a spoiler: Where you choose the character to enter the game and a summary of how the character came to be there.
Solstice will be lost and injured in a labyrinth. She had heard a story of someone hiding something deep within the labyrinth itself and wanted to see it. Scratch that, she wanted the object itself, believing it to be the best addition to her collection. Unfortunately for her, she triggered a trap when she wasn't paying attention and wound up severely injured and losing a majority of the things she had found on her adventures.
What wondrous item (and any other special requests to spend your money on) you wish the character to start with.
My wondrous item would be the dark shard amulet, and I would like to purchase scale mail, explorer's pack, quarterstaff, calligrapher's supplies, a blank book, and 4 healing potions.
Varis had been living on the streets ever since he was a child, his own father scorned him and his mother died of a mysterious illness. He worked hard to be able to defend himself and soon found himself traveling with a small group. They did a few tasks, typical little quests (such as stealing a scroll for a noble, a bit of rat extermination, etc.) and he found himself getting more skilled. Yet now they have parted ways and Varis wanders around trying to do good things. Trying to become the person his father never wanted him to be and prove that that is worthy of living just as the next person is.
In the spoiler is where I would choose to enter the game.
Lost and injured in a labyrinth, Varis having come across it by accident and curiously wandering in to see what was up with it.
I would like my character to start with the Boots of Elvenkind and would prefer to hold onto the money for later shopping.
Varlas lost both of his parents at a young age, and was then raised by the village. They gave him room and board out of respect from his parents, but the only real comfort he had was from his faith. He has always prided himself on doing the right thing and helping others. However, he has never felt at home in this village. While this group of minotaurs certainly is not evil, Varlas is sometimes seen as too "good" and is often the subject of jokes at his expense (this can change depending on how you envision this village). He deals with it because he can feel useful, but is definitely looking for his larger purpose in life.
In a spoiler: Where you choose the character to enter the game:
Name: Colored Stones in the Stream (Stones), Clan River Tree
Race: Tabaxi
Class: Bard (College of Swords)
Alignment: Chaotic Good
Like many Tabaxi, Stones has always been curious and looking for new experiences. At a young age he learned he had a knack for performing and enjoyed making other smile and laugh with his singing, jokes, juggling, and tumbling. He also found he was quite good at doing tricks with knives, swords, sharp rocks and so on. Not only was he likely to run with scissors, he would also make them fly through the air in intricate patterns with unerring accuracy. One day, a halfling bard from the College of Swords came through town with a traveling troupe and saw his skills, and took him on as an apprentice. After spending time traveling with the troupe and learning the tricks of the trade, Stones left to join other groups to see new things. He also gained an appreciation for helping others in between performances, whether it was by donating money, or "persuading" greedy merchants with his special skills to feed the hungry. He got to see many places, meet many people, and help towns and individuals fight off bandits and monsters. The best part of his life is meeting new people because everyone loves a good performance.
In a spoiler: Where you choose the character to enter the game and a summary of how the character came to be there.
Actually, Minotaurs do not love a good performance. Especially when they think a certain Tabaxi might have tricked them into giving away some of their hard earned loot to some impoverished gnomes. He protested his innocence but what is an (allegedly) unfairly imprisoned bard to do?
What wondrous item (and any other special requests to spend your money on) you wish the character to start with: For the wondrous item I'd like an instrument of illusions. For the money he needs a couple of scimitars, some medium armor, an entertainers pack, some fine clothes, and the rest of the money he'll keep for now as he hasn't had a chance to spend it or give it away yet.
Bernard spent his younger years in service of the law. He worked in a medium-sized town under indirect jurisdiction of the Mage King and methodically worked his way up from a young recruit to a well-respected sergeant in his mid-thirties.
Eventually, the mayor of the town fell ill and was replaced by a younger, ambitious ruler with a penchant for tyranny.
Over the following years, Bernard often questioned his orders that resulted in the misery of the poor or undeserved - yet he dealt 'justice' as commanded. To bear the burden of guilt he turned to the gods, and found solace in the worship of Tyr. He told himself that the law must be upheld no matter the cost; and though a good man at heart, he slowly came to resent himself as the laws slid into barbarism.
Once his mid-forties came, the young ruler was overthrown during a revolt, and the justice system torn apart and rebuilt. The new government saw Bernard as the hand of a tyrant and cast him out of the town.
In the years since, he has travelled the land in search of purpose, often thinking to find it at the bottom of a bottle. His travels have thrown him into contact with a number of adventuring parties, through which he managed to make enough coin to sustain his alcoholism.
Recently, Bernard received a vision from Tyr which spurred him into action. He uncharacteristically cast aside his bottle of brandy with divine fervour and purchased a horse from a local lord using almost all of his accumulated wealth.
From here, he set out onto the Long Road in search of the ragtag group that his mysterious dream revealed to him.
Magic Item: Rope of Mending which he was gifted by the original mayor he served as a means to restrain criminals.
I saw your game thread back a few months ago and would have loved to apply. I had a lot of work on at the time though, so couldn't adhere to your posting policy. This has changed now, and I check D&DB pretty much half-hourly on weekdays and once or twice a day during weekends - so can absolutely fit it in now. Since I picked the 'unlikely messenger' start point, it would be great to formulate something with you. With more information on the setting/campaign I could probably come up with a few goods ideas for you to choose from or adapt into your game.
Finally, I encourage you to check out my post history to see the style with which I post (particularly the game that I DM). I always aim to minimise spelling and grammar errors, use tooltips, and try to generally make my posts as clear as possible through formatting and [OoC] additions where necessary.
I hope to hear back from you!

Name Kyrthas
Race: Minotuar
Class: Barbarian 5 (Totem Warrior)
Alignment: Chaotic Good
Bakcstory:
Member of one of the hunting parties of the village Kyrthas has not yet seen the fiends but has heard the tales of those who had survived the attacks, and in the last hunt they found the rest of a caravan that was attacked by them. They returned back to their village and the Elders are worried. They've canceled all the hunting parties and ordered almost a lockdown for the village but Khyrtas thinks that is not wise. They had to go out and find what they want, how they can be defeted, and destroy them before they attack the village. Well, if they do not want to do or listen... then someone has to do it. He should has to do it.
Magic objetc: Cloak of portection (Bear skin cape if that's ok).
Questions: Never mind I read point buy... ;) but Fixed HP?
What about the abilites? Standard? Point buy? Roll? In case is rolling...
Backstory: Bulwark was created long ago by a forgotten people, built to serve and protect his masters against the monsters that they faced. They didn't realise he was more than a simple automaton, that the essence of life swirled within him. He had a soul. Sentience was trait he was never aware he wasn't supposed to have, and though his makers were surprised at first, they quickly came to consider him more than a mechanical servant, but as a friend.
It was one fateful day, when he was guarding his masters whilst they traversed an ages old ruin, that that bond was broken. Without warning, the group were set upon by creatures slinking out of the darkness, and though he defended them to the best of his ability, an unlucky blow damaged his motor systems, and he could only watch as the people he was sworn to protect were slaughtered. He lay like that for a great deal of time, before the rest of his systems shut down to preserve energy, and the world faded to black.
Entry into the game:
Found, derelict and de-powered, in the labyrinth. On the party interacting with him he rouses to life once again.
