They have an apprentice with the border patrol. Locate Creature is beyond him (and you) for some time. I was looking through the spell list and had an epiphany. There is a spell that you have access to that will give you the answer to your Athens question if you can think of how to use it properly. If you (or anyone else) can work it out without any hints from me I'll give everyone Inspiration.
If you want to go see one of their medicine men that will be a detour of 2 days.
Hmm, well, Enhance Ability is on the druid list. So is Locate Animals or Plants. The latter might lead us to the subject of Athens... assuming it was animal or plant. Wizards and Druids have Locate Object but I'm not sure if we could ask for 'the critter's underpants' or similar and expect a non-silly answer ;). Would Comprehend Languages work on damaged things? I know the Eyes of the Runekeeper do but that's invocation weirdness/awesomeness and Sarah doesn't have that anyway.
Hmmm... Enhance Ability + Comprehend Languages followed by Guidance. (Fox's Cunning boosted by 1d4) This combination should swell anybody's head quite nicely.

OOC - This is assuming it is a creature we are looking for, but I could shape Gamliel into a rat, giving him the enhanced ability of a rat's senses, and track who ever destroyed the documents. Considering the theme of the project was infiltration, they may even be among us!

Those papers where burnt over a year ago. I did a google search and it looks like a scent trail that a bloodhound can follow will last for 300 hours. So, no.

Okay, we didn't get it but it's bugging me. Can you tell us? We won't use it since we failed to work it out.
Use Locate Object to find the nearest GPS tracking chip. Also from a metagame perspective it’s pretty obvious where you have to look.
Oh, damn. I specifically discounted that one because you have to be 'familiar' with the object. Forgot about the chip and that we had an example with Sparta. Argh! Thanks for telling us.

Locate object is only 1000 feet. Not exactly far.

"Well, ain't your sphincter attached to your lips! What flavor is your fecal milkshake!" Aleister stomps around swearing up a tornado. "Might as well retire at this rate," he glares around as if the world in general has conspired against him.
After calming down, taking a sip, just a sip mind you, of moonshine he will try again.

Okay, if that works, he will put the venom into a vial, mix in a bit cactus sap to thicken it and stopper it securely. Then he will make five hypodermic darts, using the tubing, pieces of fuel line, he has been carting around since this affair began. After which he'll see if he can locate a short piece of tubing that can slip inside the fuel line. Seating a small piece lead, shaped to just fit inside and coated with a small amount of wax, at the bottom of the tubing so that it wont fall out; he will then secure the empty darts in a small rolled up piece of leather.
"So, we're off to see the Wizard?"
