Oh, she meant the Darkness, not the darkness. I didn't see the capital letter. :D

“Can you tell me the difference between a witch and a wizard?" "Sure, a wizard is what they call you when they want to hire you, and a witch is what they call you when they're getting ready to run you out of town.” SunWolf replied ― Barbara Hambly, The Witches of Wenshar
During the past three years Lord Daken of Deer Island has become quite obsessed with your group. More than once you've had to deal with his men when you encounter them in your travels.
OCC In Cold Bay Alaska? Or nearer to Texas? Off the coast of Maine? Oophs! Oh, yeah, on the Columbia River.
What do we know about 'Lord' Draken? I imagine we have captured a few of his men at least and put them to the question, yes?
You know that after the first encounter with his people (Killed a bunch of his men-at-arms who where chasing escaped serfs) he was shamed badly because when the remnants of those troops returned to his land he was being visited by Sandra Arminger. Ever since that day he's been trying different schemes to avenge himself on you.
That 'random' encounter, right? What has he been trying to do? Also, is Sandra Arminger aware of us?
Encounters in the wilderness, tavern brawls in Corvallis pubs. The latest is a rumour that he has contracted a hit with one of the bandit gangs. Your town is a second tier power in Oregon so Sandra Arminger certainly knows about you.
“Well,” Aleister said. “I suppose that means we had best have a discussion with this ‘Lord’ of Deer Island. I am guessing that his ‘empire’ is a bit north of Portland, on the Columbia River.” He looks at the others quizzically, “We have learned that much in our rather extended introductions to him and his ilk, haven’t we?”

Panic is a mechanism that strengthens the gene pool.
"If it's on the river, let's go visit via a water route. Less easy for him to see us coming. Seal Team 6, anyone?"

"To what end?" Sarah questions. "He needs to be dealt with but how. If we attack or infiltrate, he knows our allegiance, so if we move against him, we could start a war. Disguises? Would they be deniable enough?"

He's a PPA noble and they are already at war with Yachats (and pretty much everyone else). The conflict is in a lull between shooting matches at the moment.
"Well then do we scare him, kill him, discredit him or something else?" Sarah wonders. "I don't think he will be cowed for long with his pride already so involved. Discrediting him might be interesting. His status in the PPA has already taken a blow. If we somehow enhanced his paranoia and made him look a loon, the PPA might handle it for us."
"If we do all the effort of discrediting him and or some other kind of character assassination, they will replace him with possibly a worse leader in the area. We should scout their forces, discover their vulnerabilities, and remove them as a threat all together. The serfs deserve a better life than near slaves. They aren't far North of us - would we be able to incorporate them into our society?"

"A bit of chaos in the area might be good, unless we can field a occupation force. I'd rather leave it empty and unusable, myself, and keep our forces consolidated. It would provide a burn line North of Portland to distract, plus it'd make a good example of not to mess with Yachats. ."

Not really possible. They are on the other side of Portland with a huge swath of PPA territory between you.

Damn it. I knew he'd show his ugly mug.

"We could get rid of him but can we hold his territory? They will replace him otherwise, as you pointed out."

"Then we have a plan. I'm ready to ride when you are," Sarah agrees.
She'll be running with her usual combo of Darkness and Presti. If she has time to prep for battle, she'll use Mirror Image.
