'Well, that was a cluster****, wasn't it? Ok, let's get on with it before anyone else shows up to the party.
Juliette - can you see what you can do to help Uthvern?
She tends his wounds, wipes his brow, holds his hand and sings a little song to raise his spirits (which you will all discover after an hour is a Cure Wounds)
Max - can you keep an eye on this lone surviving guard? Maybe see if we can tie his hands and feet?
Max ties him up. Looking around "Where's Eva?"
Thomas - can you head into the house and see if we can get this safe open (ooc I assume Doc would have given us the combo?)
Doc did give you the combination
Herman, help me check the guards' bodies - we need everything we can get off them - I wanna know what kind of food they're eating, samples of all of their weapons and gear, quality of their clothes and boots. Doubly true for any intel you can gather - papers, money, notebooks, diaries, anything. We should also look around to see how they were planning on getting all this stuff back to Portland - a couple of handcarts would come in handy getting these books back to the boat. Investigation 20
Around the back you find 2 rickshaw style carts they intended to use for the books. Each of them had backpacks with water bottles and 3 MRE's each. Sarge had a military style map of the Portland area with a mark showing the Doc's house.
Sarge and Pacco had good quality chail mail armour and the others had mail shirts. All had shields, real longswords and heavy xbows.
George looks over the Xbows - are they newly crafted or from a hunting store?
Either way, I vote we take all the xbows, the longswords and at least one mail shirt and one full set of mail armor - having a pattern will make creating our own that much easier.
We should grab the food and the map as well (anything else noted on the map?)
We need to interrogate the prisoner - and figure our what to do with him going forward. It's entirely possible he's a decent guy - but I'm not inclined to let him go back to Portland.
George pulls the team aside -
'Oy - any of you feel like putting a bit of a scare into this fella here? I'm happy to lead the questioning, I've had a bit of experience with that - but that same experience tells me he's not likely to be afraid of the likes of me'
EDIT: George isn't paying any attention to Eva's absence. He has a bit of tunnel vision on missions. It's a real failing and challenge.

There's a logo "Portland SCA", not store bought nor new either.

The map does show the Portland National Guard Armoury. Lots of useless weapons but probably a shit load of good stuff -- like MREs, tents etc.

After dealing with the safe, Thomas will come back with it's contents as best as he can. Claiming one of the crossbows for his own use - unless someone has a greater need - he says "Carting all this stuff back is going to be..." He stops, seeing Uthvern's wounds healing up impossibly fast. "What the hell?! What's she doing to him? How is he healing?!?" stepping back a bit in awe, Thomas leans against a wall and watches the magic take hold.

When Thomas cries out Juliette falters for a moment and then has a sudden insight about what was happening and continues with her song. In due course Uthvern is healed 4 damage and wakes up. (A crappy roll but its her first try at this.)
Juliette is thrilled by what has happened "Magic! I wonder what else I can do? Maybe I can convince the prisoner to talk?" She sings a song to the prisoner hoping to charm person him. Save 17
Now here's the real advantage of this magic system, while you can't cast in combat every spell is considered a ritual so there is no limit on how many times per day you can cast it. She tries again and eventually he fails his save. What should she ask her new friend?
We need to know everything about him. Where he’s from? Does he have a family? Where are they? How are conditions in Portland? Who was Pacco? Why were they here? What kind of training did he get? What’s this Portland sCA?
We need to know everything about him. Where he’s from? Portland Does he have a family? Gran and two sisters Where are they? In my apartment How are conditions in Portland? If you’re not working directly for The Protector, pretty grim Who was Pacco? He was second in charge of our street gang, Los Lobos Why were they here? To collect some books What kind of training did he get? Sarge gave us two weeks drilling on how to fight in armour, how to use a sword What’s this Portland sCA? The Society of Creative Anachronism, crazy people who would play at sword fights and jousting and shit. But apparently not so crazy after all. The Protector joined up with the gang bosses an took over after everything went to hell.
'Ok, this is bad. A little bit of knowledge right now makes all the difference - and these guys seem to have a lot of knowledge on how to move and fight in this outlandish gear. Outlandish but incredibly effective. Sounds like this Protector has consolidated power by marrying the SCA and the street gangs - which isn't good news for his neighbors.'
George rubs his chin thoughtfully for a couple of seconds.
'We need to get these books back home. Pronto. And U needs time to recover - even after whatever it is the Juliette here just did to him.....and to this guard.'
'So the real question is - what do we do with this guy? I don't think we can afford to let him go back to Portland and let them know anything about us - the longer we can stay off this Protector's guy's radar the better.'
As the magic continues, Thomas mutters to himself then to the group "Magic is real, now. Real. All that Kaballah stuff I've played with... Hey, I have a book back on my boat. It was about a certain kind of magic and I've fooled around with it for years. Do you think it might actually WORK now?"" He speaks directly to George and says "If Magic is real now, maybe it was real centuries ago, with all our stories of wizards and dragons and elves and stuff, and it changed back like a cycle? They wouldn't have known then that technology didn't work. Does that also mean we will be seeing dragons and such come back? Shit, that could get hairy, meeting a pack of trolls or zombies or whatnot."
"I've seen the SCA in England before. Not a big group, relatively, but if all we are down to is Middle Ages technology, they might be the best trained to be ready for it. Real blacksmiths, swordplay and archery skills are/were preserved in these groups. I bet some of those who styled themselves nobles in their games would LOVE to be in power here in today's world! Speaking of technology, does steam power still work?"
With regards to the prisoner, Thomas is more pragmatic "I say leave him here and not say much in front of him. Let them find their own way to live, but definitely take everything we can haul away. Maybe this place has a wheel barrow or something we can tow."
OOC - so technically unlimited spell slots? Funny thing - the ritual magic spell I chose was Tensers Floating Disk, but RP wise I can't use it until we get back to the boat.

"Anyone have any suggestions?'
Max "Truss him up and take him with the books. The only other option is slit his throat and toss the body, no way can we let him go. Now my suggestion is WHERE IS EVA!"

This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Uthvern will use his second wind healing for 5 health, "I don't remember when I last saw Eva. It was before the fight I think." He grabs his head and sighs, "Nothing quite like getting my ass kicked and then feeling like shit." He sees the lone guard, "Ya'll reckon he might know where she is?"

Yes. With 4 hp, you can take 2nd wind and heal some more. Juliette is badly wounded and Max and Herman have some scratches.
The Doc has a liquor cabinet in his house.
