Taman settles back for the short rest as well. Once the group is preparing to start out again, he would speak up. "I have only a little of the cleric arts, since I have moved my studies to more of the arcane, but I can give Azuth's guidance to myself, or to others, as needed."
(OOC - @Bierp: We already explored the room to the north, though there does seem an off-shoot path to east right by the bush.)
(OOC - @Ursus: Ah yes! The goodberry life cleric combo. Vewry good! I assume the berries were made at 1st level for 4 HP healing a piece?)
Cade cants his head to the side and raises a brow initially, but straightens it out again with a shrug and plucks up three berries. "Uh.... ahem... You have my thanks, Mr. Aidar. Though, I do not quite understand how something filling is meant to be healing, I also do not understand magic very well." He grins crookedly, and following a 'cheers' sort of motion in the clerics direction with a berry, he eats one.
"Oh! That is quite delicious! Very, very delicious! Mm! Though not fires snake kabob, it's very agreeable to the tongue." He said, feeling a little more refreshed without understanding quite why. Hopefully having seen some signal from Rivon about scouting out an area, the goblin waits patiently for his return.
((OOC: 2nd level slot actually. So 5 HP. I will, however, not be casting healing spirit. ))
"Oftentimes one must fend for themselves, but the Greenfather does help me from time to time. Those berries are proof of that. Much like the weather, though, they can go bad fast."
He keeps an eye on the next door, the one that the halfling was inspecting. He was anxious to move on, but patience was important here.
"So, what is going on here? You mentioned something about a matriarch and a belker?

Durlan points towards Aidar, then looks back towards the rest of the group. I too would be most interested in hearing this, also who exactly needs to be rescued down here? Durlan moves towards the nearest goblin corpse and gives it a light nudge to ensure it's entirely dead. They apparently look nothing like us, so... what have we? Damsels in distress? nobleman's son taken for ransom? Oh oh I know, princess escapes an unrequited marriage proposal and gets locked away down here. longing to be saved by her one true love? Wait there are multiple hostages, that can't be it...
(OOC: Gotcha. Then Rivon will take point, starting on that path to the east. If that isn't actually a path, he'll move slowly and quietly south, ahead of the group by 10-15 feet. The rolls above would apply to this.)
"Yes, uhm... Nothing like that."He says to Durlan in particular, then lets a brief chuckle. "Ballsack-..."He pauses there to clear his throat, and then with a somewhat unsincere smile adds, "Sorry, Belsak or whatever is... mastermind behind a number of things in the region. Chief among them has been the recruit of goblins to serve as both muscle and face when dealing with a village nearby, as well as the disappearance of three people who -- unwittingly at the time, I think -- had ventured into this buried citadel to find out the secret of some fruit the goblins had been been bartering with. One said and proven to the nearby townsfolk to possess the power to grant great miracles once consumed. But whose sapling, if they chose to try and plant the seeds themselves, would disappear over night."
Cade quiets there to both let the words sink, and contemplate consuming another berry in hand. ".... As for the matriach. She's the head of the goblin that was ousted for a hob more willing to go allow with... whatever it was that Balsak had planned." He frowns. "Be warned. If you are to aid us going forward, we learned that he has done something to the people captured. So, they may need to be... disabled."

Aidar nods thoughtfully as their goblin berserker explains the situation. A miracle fruit? Perhaps this was put in my path for a reason. He stretches, feeling the muscles in his neck and shoulders strain and pop from his involuntary catnap. Other than that, he was feeling pretty fresh.
"Should we be trying to capture some of these goblins so the matriarch can win them back? Or is it, as they say, open season? And this Belak. A mage or spellcaster of some sort?"
He looks in the direction he last saw Rivon move. The halfling was gone now, and even knowing his general vicinity, Aidar was doubtful that he could track him with his human senses. He begins pondering how best to follow the lead of a shadow.

Rivon goes sneaking off to look around the open part of the room. When he looks about he see...
Pale, spindly griars press close, casting twisted shadows on the earth floor in the violet light. Off in the distance you see the blackened top of a tall tree, from what you've heard from the Goblins and Kobolds, this is probably the Gulthias Tree. You also see in several places, that some of the briars seem to be moving rather methodically.

Cade shakes his head, and pops his second to last berry into his mouth. "This might sound callus coming from a goblin. But, sad to say, it would be open season in there case. Whatever Belak has done isn't likely to be easy to remove, if... it is even possible. And we can only care for so many at once. So...."He bows his head on that note, and rub the back of his neck."... As for Belak, your guess is as good as mines. He ain't... is not a warrior, as far as we've been able tell. No...no, way I'm figuring at the moment, he's definitely some sort of mage. Or got something on him to make even the shrubs come to life and defend their 'twilight grove'."
He squints at the middle distance, and then looks fully to Aidar. "Or he could be like you maybe?"

"Should we go and check out this tree then?" Taman asks, getting to his feet. He double-checks his crossbow and adjusts his scale male a bit, then nods that he is ready. "I am ready when you are..."
The weathered human shakes his head at the comparison, staring steadily at Cade.
"I can understand how similar we might seem, like the superficial similarity between two goblins. But if he is feeding prisoners to this tree, it is a perversion. Trees are meant to grow on soil, light, and water. Blood is the purview of animals - and it seems about time we slake our thirst."
Aidar nods his agreement with Taman. Then he grasps his staff again with both hands, whispers under his breath, and the wood of the staff begins to spread out, covering his hands, arms, torso, then entire body For the briefest of seconds, he resembles a small tree. Then, just as suddenly, large sections of the wood fall away, as if by an invisible whittler, leaving behind a hulking but graceful feline form. A form that he knew his family had been known to lend to witch hunters. With a shake of his massive leonine head, Aidar prowls in the direction Rivon indicated, looking to remain hidden while he looks for an ideal target.
I am assuming that Cade took two berries and everyone else took one.

Durlan knells down as the rest of the group are finishing their conversation. He mutters a quick prayer in elvish and clutches his amulet.
Corellon protect me, guide my blade that I may strike true against the evil before me. I would also ask for your blessing to keep these people safe.
Durlan stands up, and kicks the bottom of his glaive upwards to spin it around to a proper defensive position. I'm not the sneakiest person, especially with this on.He rattles his armor But if we're all trying to sneak around I can attempt it. Might be better to stand a small distance from me though just in case I attract any unwanted attention.
"I am also not good at sneaking." Taman says with a shrug, his scale male clinking. "Those who wish to scout shoudl do so ahead of us, so that our gear does not give them away. I will attempt to be as quiet as i can though..."
He then casts guidance on whomever is scouting in the lead.
"May Azuth guide you." He says as he touches that person.

For all but Cade and Rivon, this area is considered difficult terrain and you can only move half your speed. As you are all walking through the briars some of them start to shake around you forming a circle. From out of the briars come 6 more of the little shrub-like creatures. ONe of them runs up to slash at Rivon.
