Hey I'm interested in a very active kind of PBP (at least for the next 4 hours, since I'm on a bus...) We can lower the pace but if you don't have the time right now please refrain from posting.
We'll be starting with the first 5 players so mind what someone posted before you.

Name: Torvus Thunderfoot
Class: Wizard
Race: Forest Gnome
Ability Scores: {9, 16, 12, 16,16, 17}.
Background:
Torvus is the son of a family of migrant farmhands who have plied their trade up and down the Sword Coast where they could get work. Seeing his unusual aptitude for scholarly pursuits, they scrimped and saved for years to enroll him in College of Stars in Neverwinter, where he has diligently pursued his studies. The College eschews purely intellectual pursuits and requires all its apprentices to use their magic to perform practical services for people, so Torvus has taken a break from his formal studies to use magic for the greater good.
Unfortunately, right about the time as he was about to set out on his mandatory excursion, the monthly letters sent from his parents and siblings had also stopped arriving. He is concerned about the reason for this, and wants to investigate, but is torn between his duties and his family, especially after they've already sacrificed so much to get him to this place to begin with. The Thunderfoots are a proud family and wouldn't ask for help if they were struggling, so Torvus is worried that something especially terrible has happened and that they're being stubborn about it.
He's told no one about this except two people: his kindly (if highly eccentric) wizard sponsor, Aremand of the Many Gates, a former adventurer and now arcane scholar of the multiverse; and his closest friend in Neverwinter, Sereyna Moonfarrow, a shopkeeper who runs a small but profitable scroll-scribing and artificer business for the College of Stars. His days are consumed with his studies, but his nights are increasingly consumed with worry.

Character Name: Bukowyr Geogazer
Class & Race: Ranger, Svirfneblin (deep gnome)
Alignment & Background: C.G. Haunted One
Place of Origin: Underdark
Backstory:
Bukowyr was single son of a cook mother and a artisan father, expert in rock crafting. Long ago their family had been respectable and famed by the legendary skill of recognizing and working with rocks, advising high ranking citizens and exploration caravans. However, the dangers of the Underdark took their greatest gem cutters and rock crafters. What was left for the descendants of the Geogazer family was the last inheritance property and an average life. Having learned some of the rock crafting skills from his father he ventured out in expeditions as scout and assistant. Learning more about the surroundings, hunting tracking and telltales of beasts from the Underdark. Life was good until one primordial beast actually showed up, wiped out his caravan, leaving him to face the harsh truth of his eternally dark world.
Welroe lived all his life as an acolyte until he heard the voice of Torm - you'll do great things little one - he said. He decided to abandon everything he knew and follow that voice, however, his family thought he was crazy, no one really had heard of Torm before and he was barely standing after he got all of his gear. - You are wasting your life Welroe! Why can't you be more like fattlybobboblepop the neighbor's son, he always stays home and grow turnips, you never wanted to grow nothing! - said his old mother when he shared his plan with his parents.
May I use standard array? (Stats in sheet currently standard array). Name: Kai Loire Race: Water Genasi Class: Cleric (Life domain) Background: Acolyte Place of Origin: Delthuntal Backstory:
Upon her discovery, the young water genasi was taken in by a priest of the local temple at a young age. Having no parents, the priest cared for her. Or at least fed her. As she grew, she was taught the ways of their god and worship, subjected to days of prayer and beatings of disobedience. This abuse led to Kai's mistrust of the groups god. If she was blessed, why is her god allowing her, along with countless others, to be abused and beaten for their worship. If their god truly cared for it's followers, then why did it allow them to be mistreated without any repercussions? When she discovered her new arcane abilities, she began to suspect that a different god was the culprit. As she began to secretly explore different religions, she began to discover that there were so many more gods and goddesses than she suspected. Unsure of her magical ability and recent discoveries, she turned to the priest who raised her. When questioned about different gods and beliefs, the priest grew angry with Kai and declared her a heratic. Being betrayed by those she trusted most and kicked out of her only home with nothing but a pack of items, her powers, and very little money, Kai adventured forth to discover the higher power responsible for her powers, swearing to one day prove her old temple wrong with their limited and restricted beliefs. However, her lack of exposure to the outside world made this difficult for her and she found herself struggling just to get by. Luckily, her fairly optimistic behavior and open opinion personality allows her to assist anyone who needs it (as long as it is morally sound) and get along with (almost) everyone she meets. Some may see Kai's optimism and willing to help as naive and gullible. She is strongminded and friendly but also holds a mistrust with getting close to anyone, making her conversation skills not the best.
Background: Her first memory was of the sound of wagon wheels turning against the road as her family's merchant caravan traded goods from one end on the Golden Way to another. The clink of coin and lowing of oxen might have been her life had it not been for the strange story that grabbed her curiosity with a fervor that could not be denied. The halfling bard had said it didn't exist and that it was just a story but Kayla couldn't help but wonder. Where did the blades of legend go when they broke? Did weapons enchanted with such power that they had consciences of their own really just fade away to nothing?
Somehow she just couldn't believe it. Of course, the best part of being the daughter of traveling merchants was that she had plenty of places to search for answers. Priests, Sages, Bards and Wizards. Every person of knowledge or might have the tiniest scrap of lore found themselves accosted. Few knew anything about such a topic. A few, though? They muttered about the Shadowfell and echoes of lost potency and forgotten things. Still, they knew nothing of the Hall of Broken Blades. One did sell her what he called a planar focus attuned to the Shadowfell.
Then the whispers started.
Sometimes being right wasn't much comfort and reality was often not as grand as she'd imagined. She hadn't found the Hall of Broken Blades- it had found her. Now she had a bunch of half-incoherant and fragmented consciousnesses bothering her about smiting the enemy. The power? Well, that was nice she supposed. It certainly opened up new vistas for her. Saying good-bye to her parents, she began her new adventuring career.
Three gnomes, a half elf, and a genasi. Looks like the girls are the taller ones in this scenario. XD And it looks like all of us have some kind of magic ability available to us. So that's interesting.

How your group came to be is far beyond my knowledge (maybe you'll let us know as you venture into the Land of Barovia) but one thing we know is that right now you find yourselves camping in a forest getting ready to sleep, we are sure that tomorrow will be another fun day to be an adventurer. The land is dark (as it usually is at night) but as the night rises the temperature decreases and is possible to see and feel a creeping fog that causes you to shiver. Everyone is still awake but you were in the middle of deciding who is going to take the first watch.
Benito being accustomed to cold conditions sees that his compatriots are shivering.
"I will take the first watch if it pleases. I welcome the cold and sleep does not come easy to me anyways. A couple hours of getting accustomed to my surrounding will aid my sleep"
Torvus wraps his cloak tighter, shivering in the approaching dusk and nodding to Benito. "I wouldn't say no to that. Nightgleam will be glad to keep you company. After all he is, quite literally, a night owl." From above, a gray barn owl with silver and golden feathers leans over a branch and hoots twice in affirmation. Torvus's familiar was a bit cantankerous at times but otherwise enjoyed cold weather.
"And it could do with being a touch warmer around here," the young gnome huffs in exasperation. He extends a finger from the fold of his cloak into the campfire, then utters an arcane word. "Jotaro!" A thin lance of flame erupts from his outstretched hand towards the campfire.
Bukowyr is used to the tension of a watch, but not so used to sharing the watch with a group. He thought he had forgotten what it was like until his muscles and keen attention were awakened by this time of need. It felt somewhat relieving to have a party again. He hoped the best he could offer would be enough. Unlike the last time.
"Allow me to make you company." His voice lower pitch than the other might find comfortable to hear, an apparent exaggerated caution, somewhat nasal."Let me take the opposite side of our camp so I can watch your back and you watch mine. So we can protect everyone."
Kai looks semi happy at the fog but not happy with the colder weather. She looks to Benito with a nod. "I can take the watch after you. Although it will probably required my use of light (cantrip) and some small perimeter walking. Whoever would like to join me may need to be able to see in the dark." Kai pushes up her glasses slightly and studies the owl with a curious smile, muttering softly. "You're quite cute. Despite your behavior sometimes."
Kai will position herself by the fire quietly to keep warm until nightly watch is determined. She studies the flames quietly, sitting her water canteen slightly in front of her, playing with her water slightly, lifting a small amount in a ball between her slightly webbed hands and letting it shift around and circle around her hands slightly before she carefully puts it back into the canteen.

A couple of hours went by (RE: 1) silently as if you were completely alone in the woods, if the campfire was still lit that was the only sound you were able to perceive, even Nightgleam senses weren't good or where they too good? it was impossible to know, just as the first watch was about to end, Benito noticed how the fog became thicker and started to move slowly. Bukowyron the other hand felt as if the fog was alive and had the goal of surrounding the whole party...
Kai relaxes in the fog quietly as she rests, normally happy in these types of scenarios. She evens takes to shifting the fog around her magically, making small shapes occasionally before adjusting the opacity to make the thickening fog easier to see through.
(OOC: Would Kai, being a water genasi, be able to sense anything different or off about this fog from her other encounters of fog at home?)

"Bukowyr... The fog seems to be getting thicker." Benito point out, in a deep voice fitting his larger than average stature. "I feel a little uneasy about how this thick fog is engulfing our position." Benito keeps a sharp eye out for any unnatural movement through the fog until his watch ends.

Once his watch ends, he lets the second watch know that the fog is increasingly growing thicker.
@kai - You can't shape the fog, is very different to any other fog you've seen before.
@Benito - You believe that a shape of a humanoid is hiding behind the fog but it is quite faint. Once you adjust your sight it disappears with a whisper - Welcome to Barovia - it says slowly and with a deep voice. Right after that is almost impossible to see anything but the fog. (This occurred as you where trying to wake someone for the next watch, so we can assume that at least there are 3 of you awake)
