"I agree. If we can get back to where we met, perhaps we can find another route to the gap in the mountains. Approach from above? Climb the mountain and descend?"
Dreel just shrugs with a bit of a sigh "In too far to separate. Wherever y'all go I'll follow." He says with a light sigh, withdrawing one of his arms into his shell to scratch his side a bit.
OOC: I think we are going back to the beginning where we were before we entered the fog and heading back in on a different path? I acted based on the nature check our DM suggested.
"I for one would vote to follow the path if only because it is magic. In my experience that leads to more fun and excitement. But I will defer to the group. If you wish to return the way we came, I join you with no complaints."
Rutah, looking along the path in both directions, can’t really tell if they had been walking in a circle or not. But the fact remains that a piece of the headscarf he had used for marking the path was in front of them, on the path, not behind them. Despite this, the group of travellers decides to turn back and follow the path until they see the light again, or find the exact place where they had stepped onto the path. It doesn’t take long, before a few of the group notice the light again. Now, to the right of the path. Rutah also notices tracks the group left on the forest floor leading to the path.
Rutah takes a step off the path and onto the tracks they had left coming here. As he shifts his weight off the path and to his front foot, his form seems to shift back and his front foot is once again on the path.
[Anyone trying to step off the path and back towards where you originally came from, will experience the same thing. As you step forward, your foot lands on the ground where you want to go, but as you lift your other foot your front one is once again on the path.]
"Well, this is concerning," Ignus doesn't even attempt to step off the path, knowing what the result would be. "We could split up and each head in a different direction, but I have a nasty feeling we would find each other again very quickly."
Ignus kneels down and puts his hands in the dirt of the path. He can still see the faint aura of the arcane energy, closing his eyes and attempting to sense the source, or how to navigate around it...
"I.. don't know how to help with this. I'm glad to have run into you all, if I had come into this headstrong and alone I might have died here, never escaping this place."
The tortle gulps gently as he looks around, scratching the underside of his chin softly "I uh....I can track unnatural creatures pretty well but magic.....not my strong suit. If we can find our way out of the magic path I can help get us back on track but uh...." Looking to the Kenku and Genasi hopefully as the big blood hunter had no clue how to help against such odd path bending magics.
Together Ighus, Clipclop and Jaylen inspect the path and the magic that seems to enchant it. As they exchange a few thoughts and ideas the rest of the group can follow along with their findings.
To ignus it looks like the magic is flowing below the ground so the colour of aura is not clear. It does not seem to have a particular source as it flows along the path. Together, Ignus, Clipclop and Jaylen determine that the enchantment is likely protecting something, perhaps something in the middle - if it is, in fact, a circle. Although that does not explain why they can’t leave. It is also likely that some of it is an illusion.
Dreel
Listening to the others talk, you remember something. You’ve heard stories of people getting lost on circular paths, further south from the guild’s base. As you remember, those were called ‘fairy circles’, supposedly protecting gateways to the Faywilds. But you haven’t heard of any fey sightings this far north.
Dreel suddenly stands up straight, clapping his hands together "I got it! I just remembered something maybe useful! Part of my training had me learn about Fey, and south of where I was trained there were stories about people gettin' lost in so called Fairy Circles. Apparently they protected gateways to the Feywilds.....though don't remember hearin' about any Fey sightings this far north." Scratching his chin quizzically as he says the last bit almost to himself.
"Perhaps this is a circle similar to the ones near where you trained, but protects a gate of a different sort? If we could figure out what type of creature is allowed to pass through I may have a solution. I have a spell that can alter our magical auras so that we would appear differently to effects of the enchantment that bind us to the path. I can only cast it but two times before my magical stories are depleted, however. That would mean experimentation to discover the creature type allowed to pass through could be quite time consuming. And even if we can guess the correct type allowed passage, it would take me a few days before I could free everyone, although we could send some of the first freed for help in the meantime. It's not the most effective solution but it is the best one I have at the moment. I am definitely open to suggestions."

ooc: clipclop, I already cast detect magic . the fog is normal, the path itself has some magic element to it.
