Delanra accepts the flowers, a false platitude offered to the staff member at the bathhouse thanking them for the gift. She makes her way over to the Nook and looks for Zelra, trying to find the girl and find out the calibre of the drinks before risking ordering.
Much of the conversation in the line is of romance and gossip, but Zelra does pick up some repeated conversations from some of the locals in line; apparently the elven bartendress is a great conversationalist and quite attractive, and tonight's headlining bard is a half-elf with a gorgeous baritone voice.
In the pet shop, the half-elf responds to Otger, "We are! With all of the visitors in town, all of our pets have been reserved except for the last three wolf cubs. They're 10 gold pieces each if you are interested."
Leaving the bathhouse beyond, Delanra begins to pick her way through the crowded streets toward The Lovers' Nook.
Otger looks a bit defeated as the half-elf tells him they have nothing else available. "Well, that's okay. Maybe I will get here early next festival!" Otger then takes his time through the market square, looking at all the travelers reveling in their festivities. "Well, I think its time to find a room, wouldn't mind getting out of this armor for the day." Otger says to himself as he rotates his shoulder. He then heads in the direction of the Lover's Nook.
Zelra looks around bored and taps her foot impatiently as she waits to get in, mumbling complaints about the long line to herself. She taps the shoulder of the person in front of her. "Sorry if I'm interrupting anything, but you got any idea how long the wait is going to be?"
Midway through the line, Zelra taps the shoulder of an annoyingly happy human man, who looks like he's already imbibed a few holiday drinks. "Who knows? Ain't from here, but I didn't see no other options, so here we are! I'm sure this line will be gone in no time. After all, these people can't stay in there the whole day, can they?" he answers.
A few short hours after sundown, the the town streets are awash in the glow of lanterns and candles strung about in homage to the goddess of love and beauty. Delanra and Otger begin their walk to the inn to meet up with the others. The crisp night air causes small groups and pairs to cluster together on the town streets as they decide where to spend their evening. In these warmth-seeking moments, some gesture overhead, admiring the swinging lanterns that add a magical air to the quaint, picturesque scene.
The two wind through the streets, recalling the multiple sets of directions they had received in the afternoon, but the inn is not hard to find. The line has grown to a preposterous length, leading all the way to the the beautiful exterior of the building. It blends in well with the village's aesthetic, sitting just outside the town proper at the edge of a lush forest. Standing a story taller than most of the local establishments, soft, warm light glows from the full, frosted windows of the lower floor, beckoning townsfolk and travelers in out of the cold. Otger quickly spots Delanra near the back of the line, and the two crane their necks in hopes of spotting the rest of their party. Ulmria is nowhere to be seen, but thankfully, Zelra has held a place in the line, and is likely only ten minutes or so from reaching the tavern door.
"Well," Otger says to Delanra, "I'm not sure of the customs here but do you think we could go on up to Zelra and quicken our entry to this bustling inn?" He looks about at the immense line up and rubs his hands together, trying to get some warmth back into them. "May as well give it a try, no?" Otger then begins making his way, cautiously, to Zelra.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Delanra looks down the line with a disdainful expression, "I am not inclined to wait in line." So saying, she strides authoritatively past the queuing peons, ignorant of any clamour or exclamations of 'pushing in' or 'being fair', to meet up with Zelra. "Otger, should you wish to wait here with Zelra, I will see if we can expedite our entry further still."
Heading to the front of the queue, the lady looks for someone in a position of authority that looks the least fit for the task of restraining the expectant horde. She takes note as best she is able at the barriers that are preventing entry, as she releases a small spell under her breath and has faintly visible hand start winding it's way to the doorway, dodging the milling people's feet and ankles as best it is able, awaiting the sorcerer's command.
Delanra addresses her quarry directly "Sir, (or Madam ) what is the delay in getting these good people into the establishment? Many a soul is longing to enjoy the evening's festivities, and spend a coin at your bar amidst bardic splendour. Surely there is no good purpose to have such a slew of people queuing out in the open?"
"I'll wait here with Zelra." Otger says to Dalanra. He then turns to Zelra, "So you've been here this whole afternoon? I didn't realize this place was.. this popular. Have you heard anything from the crowd as to why they are so keen on staying here? I hope there are still rooms for us."
Zelda sighs and kicks the ground. "Yeah, didn't realise how long it would take. But once I was in, I couldn't, or rather didn't want to leave because we would've had to wait even longer if I wasn't already lined up. I think this place is pretty popular because of some sexy bard and a sexy bartender. In terms of rooms, most people are probably just eating here and then leaving. I'm sure there'll be some rooms for us... hopefully."
Delanra speaks with a greeter and hostess in front, a human woman with warm, olive-toned skin. Through all the chaos of the day, she has somehow managed to maintain a pleasant demeanor, but her stretched smile at Delanra shows that might be wearing thin.
"Ma'am, we are moving people in as quickly as we can. Even with our extra seating today, our building is not large enough to handle everyone at once. We are not allowing people to stay past their meal, however, so if you've come to watch Quint you've arrived at the perfect time," she says.
At any rate, it is only a few minutes longer before Otger and Zelra reach the front of the line, in sight of the red and pink flowers the groundskeepers have intertwined with the charming ivy that arcs over the doorways and up the stone cobbles of the inn's outer walls.
The same young human woman greets the two, Delanra still impatiently waiting nearby. "Welcome to The Lovers' Nook. Table for two? Have the two of you been enjoying your Sune's Day? Have you done anything special in town to celebrate?"
"Uh. No. Table for 3."Zelra points at Delanra. "She's with us. I don't know what they've been doing but I've been spending my day standing in line here."She gives the woman an obviously sarcastic smile. "So fun. Anyways, are there any rooms available or is it just "eat your food and get out" tonight?"
"I was hoping to get out of my armor. I was looking forward to a bed for the night. If you can't accommodate that, can I ask for your suggestion as to where I can go? I would still like to experience this tavern first though." Otger says.
"Of course, a table for three, one moment please," the woman says, excusing herself to step inside and ensure a table has been cleared for the party. She reemerges after a few minutes, smiling, and graciously invites you indoors. "And the three of you will be...needing a room, then?" she asks, with a subtle twinge of embarrassment. It seems she's gotten a few uncomfortable answers to that question over the course of the evening.
The magic and romance of the decorations in the picturesque city have been beautifully translated to the inn's interior. The wooden chandeliers with hanging lanterns are draped in ivy and white flowers, and each tabletop is graced by low bouquets of dark red roses and peonies and the glow of pink and white candles on small golden trays. The smell of baked bread wafts out from the kitchen, complemented by the scents of mulled wine, fruits, and cheeses.
The woman introduces herself as Josephine, and leads you past several wooden tables, some with lovers sitting closely together, whispering and flirting, others with groups of friends laughing loudly and sharing plates of food and rounds of drinks.
She seats you a bit out of the way, explaining that you'll be shielded from the draft and be better able to hear the bards from here. At present, three of the minstrels are taking a break and having some watered-down wine in-between their rounds of the diners; a fourth sits strumming his lute quietly, the notes rising and falling just below the hum of patrons and waitstaff.
"Can I first get you anything to drink?" Josephine asks.
"Uh. How many rooms can we get?" Otger stumbles over his words a bit, now realizing this tavern may not be in his best interest. "I'll have a.. uhh.. glass of red wine, please." He then takes a seat at the table.
Zelra throws her head back and laughs, slapping Otger on the back. "Yeah, same question. How many rooms can we get? Three would be best but two should be good enough." As she slumps down in her seat, "A mug of ale for me."
"We do have three rooms available," Josephine chuckles to herself. "Most come for the food and the bards. And you, miss? What will you have to drink?" She turns to Delanra.
Looking at the menu, Otger's face grins widely. "Now I see why everyone wants to eat here, oh my oh my! Everything sounds delicious! Rib-eye with broccoli and an apple pie to finish sounds perfect." Otger begins to wait for the server to return so he can place his order. He then turns to the table, "I hope we aren't setting down for too long, my purse will likely need a refilling after tonight."
Zelda takes the menu after Otger and grins. "Damn. This all sounds amazing. Think I'll get the crab legs and an apple pie as well. Love me some seafood and love me some garlic. Put them together? I think I might just die." As Otger turns to the group, she nods. "I agree. We will be having some light purses tonight but hey, it's good to treat ourselves every now and then aye? Maybe we can go look to see if there any available jobs in town tomorrow."
Josephine returns with ale and wine from the bar for Otger and Zelra, quickly taking their orders while a cheer erupts from the patrons. A half-elf man with a ready smile has taken the stage. While a band plays behind him, he begins to sing in a lovely baritone, alternatively husky and pleadingly sweet, throwing the occasional wink toward a female patron in the midst of his romantic melodies.
"I'll be back shortly with the rib-eye and crab legs. I can take your order then if you're ready, miss," Josephine says as Delanra continues to silently stare.
Some of the diners have finished their meals and have moved to the center of the tavern to dance, opening room for more of the line to be seated. The atmosphere of Sune's Day is evident.
