OCC: HAHA.. But that is a good idea for a world/campaign. Give everything wings. Though what a dwarf would do with wings. I mean, they fly perfectly well when tossed. Just ask Gimli. 1e DM Guide even has a section on Aerial Adventures as I recall. Hmmm...
"God, why couldn't they be birds?" Georges muttered with a long sigh and unsheathed his dagger. He was pretty sure a song and some chord-strumming wouldn't be the best way to calm these things down.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Round 1
Initiative:
Ulrich Grimm Bren Rosk Georges Corum Navi Swarm
Ulrich
Ulrich gasps and rolls back from the lip of the cave as the creatures shoot out from it. Then with a shout of warning places a hex onto the swarm and then strikes swarm with a bolt of energy. Two creatures fall to the ground as the swarm descends.
Bren
7
With a moments concentration, a bolt of blazing flame shoots from Bren's hand striking the swarn, as 2 smoking creatures fall to the ground as the swarm descends on the group.
((If I were to switch to my bow, would I be able to apply sneak attack damage since I'm hidden? First time playing a rogue))
"The attack must use a finesse or a ranged weapon..." -- bow is a ranged weapon. You have to have advantage or another enemy of your target must be within 5 ft of it. Since the swarm is diving to attack (someone), I'll allow it.

With a muttered spell and a flourish, a wave of sound issues forth, knocking several creatures from the sky and pushing the flock back into the sky.
Corum
Letting fly an arrow, Corum strikes the lead creature. The arrow continues onward through the creature ripping the wings of two more as it passes thru the swarm.
With a final shriek, the swarm breaks apart with angry creatures disappearing into the trees in various directions.
"Well that was... something." Georges said, looking around as the swarm dispersed. "Now, time to go down the rabbit hole."
He walked to the edge of the hole and stared down as the light he dropped slowly flickered out. "It looks fun enough. I can use feather fall to send us down."
Corum quickly walks up to the beasts he downed. Hold up friend I want to look at these things before we go down. We got incredibly lucky this time and were able to jump them as they came up but I would like to get information on our potential enemy before we climb down.
Investigation/Perception 7
Think these guys would be good eating? Bet they would be good in a stew with an ale.
The creatures are definately reptilian, with soft snake like skin. They have 3 toed gone legs with long sharp nails and their wings are made of skin stretched over hollow bones. Like bats, the wings are their forward limbs, and 3 fingered claws stick from the wings joint. It is a good guess that they are carnivores, with 2 rows of serrated teeth.
Navi would huff, putting away her shield and weapon. She'd reach into her bag to pull out the cartography gear and plop herself down cross legged on the ground. With a few pen strokes, Navi would make sure to update the maps trail. She'd make sure to note this entrance. She'd also make some notes and observations about the creatures physical features. After a few moments, she'd reach over to a creature within arms reach and pull it over to her. Navi would turn it over, lift its wings and poke at its skin before making a couple more notes. She'd let out a sigh, then chuck it down the hole before picking herself up off the ground. "That one could be char grilled by the time we get down there." Navi would tuck the cartography equipment away before going closer to the edge. Spotting a carcass or two near the hole, she'd shrug to herself and kick them down too. Navi would accept the feather fall, though she wouldn't be the most graceful with it. She prefers her feet on the ground.
Bren lets loose his held Sacred Flame. The swarm makes a DC14 Dex saving throw or takes 6 Radiant Damage.
