"I founds a place to stay! It's a little banged up but we can stay here a night and be okay." Roscoe hops off the wagon when it comes to a stop. He's feeling back to himself surrounded by nature." He starts heading toward the cabin with a bit of excitement.
Edeleth kneels in the snow, examining the tracks. He knows Gnolls have the heads of hyenas, but he has never actually seen one before, let alone their footprints. Considering the climate and terrain, and the situation, he considers it far more likely the tracks were left by Gnolls than actual hyenas. Making a detour to investigate seems pointless, as the tracks are not fresh. Perhaps after they deal with the Oakfields situation, they should come back and follow...though by then, the snow would probably have covered any sign of passage. The storm they had just traveled through had probably erased most of the trail already, and these tracks must have somehow been sheltered from the wind and snow by the surrounding bushes and trees.
"I don't suppose anyone knows what lies east of here?" he calls to the others. "There are Gnoll tracks headed that way, two days old. I do hope they're not the Gnolls we are after, because that would mean that the situation in Oakfields has been...resolved."
It seems early to stop and rest, but his own impatience has already driven his companions out into some terrible weather, so he feels he has no right to criticize. If only he had stopped to check the weather, instead of killing time in that bookshop reading poetry so bad he could hardly accept that it was Elvish.
He gazes into the sky, trying to determine what the weather is likely to be for the near future. (Survival check-- 22
Then, if nothing happens to prevent it, it's time he had a conversation with the dog. Looking around, he sees that the animal is following Roscoe around as usual. Roscoe has found a cabin. It's overgrown with plants, has a tree leaning on it, and a gaping hole in the side is letting in fresh air. Edeleth approves.

Rosri is excited to get out of the bitter cold and goes to help Roscoe investigate: 9 He specifically is looking for a fireplace.
He is also on the lookout out for traps (and signs of the building collapsing, broken floorboards etc. to determine if it is safe to stay in) and others that might have taken shelter from the weather in the house.
Perception check: 16
Edit to my post:
Following Roscoe in to the house, Rosri hear Edeleth ask something but ignores it. He just want to get out of the cold.
The cabin is just a shell of a house. The door slam in the wind, the windows are broken and you can hear the wind whistling through it. On the side wall, a large hole exposes the living room to the elements. It smells of decay and dead wood inside. Rosri take out his lantern from his pack to get some light inside.
As Edeleth takes a moment to examine the skies, he can tell this blizzard is here to stay, at least until the end of tomorrow, after which the wind and snow might calm down a bit...
Roscoe and Rosri both easily break into the abandoned cabin. As soon as they do, they immediately notice two completely decomposed corpses in the living room floor...
The rest of the wooden cabin is quite decrepit but sturdy, with a kitchen and two bedrooms. There is a fire place that seems to work.
As Rosri investigates scene in the living room closer, he realizes both people (one human, one Dwarf) died stabbing each other. They are both clutching daggers, and one of them has a map, which seems to depict the surrounding area, and an X with scribblings in Common that reads "Shorgreg's secret stash house".
In the corner of the room, there is a trap door made of iron, mostly covered in dirt but slightly visible, with a thick padlock holding it shut....
Upon seeing the two corpses, Rosri freezses up for a moment, but soon he gathers his courage and goes over to them.
"The.. there.. there are two dead men over here!" Rosri yells out to the others. The smell is long gone, but there is dried blood coverig the floor. "seems they killed eachother over a map." He takes it out and looks at it. There is blood staind on the map and some parts have been ruind by time. "It seem like some kind of treasure map." He studies it for a moment but since he isn't familliar with the area he doesn't know what is is he is looking at. He pockets the map and heads over to the fireplace to try and light it with his tinderbox.
Survival Check: 8
After failing to do so, he take the map out to Zyman. "Mr. Zyman could you take a look at this map?"
Zyman has made his way inside the hut too, and, looking at the two corpses, is trying to determine how long ago they died.
Medicine: 3
Looking around the room, he also decides that he'd like it a bit cleaner in here, and casts Prestidigitation, in order to clean the floor and focus particularly on the trap door with the lock on. Once the floor is clean enough, he places his pack down, and unrolls his bedroll. Once all that is done, he gets out his mess kit and rations, and asks the others: "I'm about to cook us some food, anyone want some? I'm thinking of making a stew."

Zyman isn't feeling too confident in his firemaking skills. He's read about making fires, sure, but actually trying his soft hands at smashing a rock and metal together until they created sparks that would burst into flames seemed him an absurd proposition, now that he looked at the dried sticks lying next to the fireplace. Had he been a wizard, or a sorcerer, he could have probably just cast something to make the fire burst into flames, but alas, his specialty were death and diseases… it's what you get from trying to become a Medicus, he told himself.
"Alright, here goes…" Zyman grabbed a couple of pieces of wood, shaving off parts of the sappy bark, to make for tinder, and then took out the steel and flint inside his tinderbox.

Edeleth's approval of the cabin takes a hit as he sees the murdered corpses decorating the floor. He's not sure unlocking the trap door was a wise idea, either. Anything could come up through there during the night. He supposes he should put off the dog interrogation until someone has thoroughly investigated the place.
But first things first. He offers a hand at trying to get that stubborn fire started.

"It strikes me that the horses would fit in this living room," he says. "Horses give off a good deal of heat, they would be more comfortable here, and best of all, they would not get themselves eaten during the night and leave Grunda to pull the cart."

Roscoe nearly stumbles on the pair of bodies as he looks about the room. "Oi. That's where the smells come'n from." As the others begin clearing the room, Roscoe will search the corpses to try and figure out why they were there and if they had any other gear on them. "And what are we's going todo with thiese bodies? Can't leave them out to draw in stuff that'd eat em. Don't really want to sleep next to em either."
As the others struggle with the fire, Roscoe starts to pull out his tinderbox until he sees Edeleth is able to get it going. He smiles knowing that he's friends with a capable survivalist. When he hears the other halfling shout out that he got it, Roscoe moves over to the trap door excited to see what could be contained underneath.
Hearing Roscoe walking up behind him, Rosri turns to the other hafling. "Maybe we can push them downstairs after we are done investigating." He is a bit embarresed of the lack of respect he shows the two dead bodies. "I would want to bury them, but the ground outside is frozen solide." He motions toward the trap door. "Anyway, it doesn't seem to be boobie trapped. Do you want to go down?" Rosri motion with his arms toward the now opened trap door and offering the lead to Roscoe. A stale smell rises from the dark hole in the floor and it seems like it hasn't been opend in many years.
After he has investigated the trap door and where it leads. Rosri will follow Edeleth advice and move Butterscotch inside the Cabin.
OOC: Sorry DM, I took the liberty to assume that the trap door wasnt boobie trapped because of my high roll. If I was wrong please feel free to correct me.
Roscoe nods at his halfling companion. "Sounds like fun!" Roscoe enters through the trap door with battleaxe in hand just in case something wants to jump out at him.
"Not you," says Edeleth firmly, catching the dog as it tries to go after Roscoe and Rosri. "You and I need to talk."
The halflings seem competent and eager to investigate the dank hole in the ground. Edeleth is sure he will hear them yelling if they need his help. He begins the ritual for the Speak with Animals spell.
OOC: The ritual should last 10 minutes if not interrupted by screaming halflings or other disturbances, and the spell should also last 10 minutes. Edeleth means to ask:
What is the dog's name? (Because etiquette is still important, even if the dog is starting to answer to 'nobles creature.'.)
He asks the dog to briefly describe what happened in Oakfields
He asks for a description of the place the survivors are hiding, so as to be able to recognize it, and lets the dog know they expect him/her to lead them to it.
He takes the dog out to look at the tracks and give an opinion on them, because they are bothering him.
