This campaign will feature 4 characters alone in a strange land where the sun doesn't rise and there is an eerie dim glow. It's a land where most creatures are dead and the flora and fauna consists of fungi, moss and algae and mutated zombie beasts. Abandoned civilizations, dead forests, and icy deserts await.
Lore:
The world of 5 continents. Four of the continents are in the four directions while the 5th continent is at the center. However, one day the sun stopped shining over the western continent of Durath. Was it a cult ritual gone wrong? A mad wizard's failed attempt to gain power? A curse from the gods? Who knows? Dark clouds located far higher than any other cloud gathered over the continent, blocking the sun and casting the western continent in permanent dim light. Soon after, communication stopped from that continent and the magic became disrupted in that region. For decades the western continent has remained like this. None dares to venture there.
One day, a ship traveling from the Center continent to the north got caught in a massive cyclone and wrecked. There were no survivors... at least that's what everyone thought. In reality, four adventurers washed up on the shores of the dark continent of Durath. This is where our story begins.
Character Creation:
Starting Level - 4 Allowed Races: Human, Elf, Half-orc, Half-Elf, Halfling and Tiefling Stats: Roll or Point buy Equipment: Pick starting equipment + Up to 3 items (including magical ones) of common rarity Background: Anything NOT from Eberron, Acquisitions and Ravnica
Classes: No sub-classes that uses spell slots or pact slots. You can start with any caster class but once the campaign starts you won't be able to take levels in that class (Includes half-casters like Rangers and Paladin). This is for lore reasons as magic is disrupted in the land of Durath due to the strange curse. So a wizard can enter it, cast spells and even regain spell slots but they won't be able to gain in power for as long as they are there. Same applies to all casters. So your character can take caster classes during character creation but they won't be allowed to gain levels in said classes after the campaign starts.
I'm thinking of playing Glory, a tiefling Hexblade warlock.Lived a pretty sweet life hopping from court to court pretending to be a noble. She got found out and while racing through the castle dungeon trying to evade the guards, a sword spoke to her, offering her the power to break free and make her own way in the world. She drew the sword and fought off her attackers. Her repertoire of cons and jobs expanded, and she was moving to a new continent to get a fresh set of victims when disaster struck the boat she was on.
Yiquanren (or Yiqua to his friends) is a fighter by trade, successfully competing in tournaments and bouts across the land. Of below-average height, lean but muscular, his focus is on speed and precision, rather than raw power, and he has an almost unnatural ability to end fights quickly. Outside the ring, he is friendly and gregarious, more than willing to share drinks and banter with the locals betting on and against him. Fate, in the form of a cyclone, finds him and his manager on a ship headed north for a large tournament...
Interested. I am a bit confused about the class restrictions though. Are you saying that the only restriction is adding levels into a caster class after the start? So for instance I could play a Lvl 4 sorcerer but then multiclass into fighter from then on? And there would be no ill effects on my character?

Yes. This is it exactly. You can start out up to level 4 of any class including stuff like sorcerers, warlocks, clerics, rangers etc. but then you'll have to multiclass into something that doesn't cast spells like Fighter, rogue, monk etc. There will be no mechanical ill effect on your character.

Sounds great! This would be my first PbP, so I am pumped!

Krisdi Rothenel is a Wood Elf cleric of the tempest domain who has devoted his life in the service of his Thor (willing to change deities if he doesn't fit into the pantheon of this world). He has lived his life with complete trust in his deity, acting on gut feelings that he knows must be guidance from a higher power. But now that magic has been disrupted, he feels a strange distance and can no longer progress in his faith and abilities. He is now searching for his path forward, acting on whims and trying to find what is next for him. He was hoping that a sea voyage would help bring him back closer to Thor, and suspects that the dramatic turn of events may have been some form of divine intervention.
(I have a general plan for this character going forward that can obviously change depending on what happens during the campaign. I don't necessarily want to spoil it in case things change but I could PM you some more details if you're interested. Just know that I did read the restrictions on levelling!)
I have an idea for a character who might fit into this adventure. Let’s see what the dice say...

So, the idea is for Uriel, a human cleric of the light, who sees his destiny as brightening the dim and dull corners of the world. This will be his biggest challenge yet, and he will need to progress in a new class once he is stranded in the magic blighted zone (perhaps monk).

Lyle Flittish wasn't a good man, in his own regard those tended to end up dead over honour or duty or some other tripe like that, but he was a smart man. The type of man who knew how to survive. You didn't offend those who were above you, and you made friends with those who had the potential to be. Crime wasn't easy, at least all the time, but it did pay; if you were smart. And it only killed you if you made a mistake. It was only his own bad luck that the last job went so horribly wrong, but he knew what it would entail if he stuck around. It was only his own bad luck that had the ship he was fleeing on beset by a storm. It was only his own bad luck that it ended up in the worst place in the world.

I decided to do point-buy for multiclass requirements. Also, what are the rules on monk subclasses, I know they don't have spell slots but some still get spells, so would those be off limits too?
Alright. New thread time.

No. As long as the sub race belongs to an allowed race, it is okay... well the subrace must not be from Ravnica or Eberron.
I think there might be some misunderstanding. None of the PCs are originally from Durath. They ended up in Durath after the shipwreck.
