Mind the shop until either Naomi gets up or there is time to get to the sheriff's office plus about 10 minutes. If Naomi is not up then close the shop and leave a note saying I'm off to the sheriff's office. Either way get the tax assessment and the money, carefully secured under the shirt and head off.

After Guilliame finishes opening up, he finds that Granny is now in the kitchen. However, she is still in her nightgown and seems to have a case of the sniffles as she goes about making a fresh pot of char.

"I am feeling poorly today, Guilliame," she says as he enters the kitchen. "Who was that you were talking to?"

"A guard came over. My presence has been requested by Sheriff Tambor to discuss last night's goings on. I will pay our taxes while I'm there."

"Oh," says Granny, bringing her hand up to her mouth in surprise. "Well then, you had better dressed in your best clean clothes. You will want to look your best for the Sheriff of the Scholar's Ward."

[OOC: Although it is not quite the rules as written, Guilliame would be aware that multiple uses of the Prestidigitation cantrip can be used to clean and freshen clothes.]

Change into besties and give them a clean. Head off to the sheriff's as discussed.

Guilliame puts on his best clothes and makes sure the are clean and fresh. Then, after taking 3 Engles from the shop's lockbox—where the strange 20-sided stone still lies in its pouch—he heads out toward the office of the sheriff of the Scholar's Ward with the shop's tax assessment letter and purse tucked securely inside his clothing.

It is a nice day, but there is a little coldness to the morning breeze that tells him that summer has almost run its course. As Guilliame walks away from the shop, several of his neighbours wave friendly hellos, which he returns; it would seem he is becoming something of a celebrity—at least in his own street.

Several minutes later, he arrives at the front door of the Sheriff's Office, where the same female guard who delivered the message earlier is standing on duty.

"Blessed day, Master de Guilliame," the guard says politely as he passes her and enters the building.

Inside, Guilliame approaches the counter where an older man is talking with another visitor to the office; Guilliame recognises them both as being from the local area, though he doesn't remember their names.

"One moment," says the man acknowledging Guilliame's presence.

Guilliame stands to one side as the female customer begins counting out coin under the patient, but watchful, eye of the man.

The man on the office side of the counter is not only wearing the uniform of a lesser official of the crown, but Guilliame can see he is also wearing the silver medallion of a journeyman of the School of Occult Studies. Not only that, but Guilliame can tell he is using the See the Arcane cantrip as he watches the woman count out her coins.

Guilliame closes his eyes and opens them with his mage sight active.

Looking at the magical aura of the man behind the counter, Guilliame can tell he is a magi of about the same strength as himself. The woman has no aura and therefore is not a magi.

A glimmer of magic off to the left catches Guilliame's attention and he glances that way to see a section of the floor next to a roped-off half-door that leads behind the counter near the wall is glowing magically.

I've always felt that abjuration spells are about denial and negation and so to be encouraged. Wait patiently in line thinking negative thoughts.

At takes a while, but eventually the woman leaves with a receipt saying she has successfully paid her taxes for this month.

"And now, how can I help you?" asks the clerk immediately as the door closes. "Are you here to pay your taxes for the month?"

"I am but Sheriff Tambor asked to see me as well. My name is Guilliame da Marchant."

[OOC: Sorry for the delay Andrew. Last night was a D&D night and today was busy.]

"Ahh yes," says the man, looking down at a page on his desk. "You are a little earlier than expected, Master de Guilliame... Perhaps you would like to pay your tax while you wait?"

Hand the assessment over and pay the money.

Guilliame hands over the assessment paper and places 3 golden Engles on top of the sheet.

The clerk sweeps the coins up and deposits them in a drawer behind the counter, then he picks up a quill and dips it into an ink well.

"Do you have any plans to change the basic nature of the products and services that your shop provides  in the future?," the clerk asks as he puts his signature on the page.

He then adds in a questioning tone, "Masterful Mixtures... You do not provide healing drafts, do you? You haven't in the past. The taxation rate is different for healers."
