Fini—a business man no matter what else he is—readily agrees and says he will give Guilliame a key to the back door of his shop so that he can get stock from the shop that he can sell in his own. He also says he will trust you to do right by him.

Granny Naomi doesn't like the idea that Fini and his family are leaving, but thinks the idea of selling some of Fini's goods in the shop is a good idea. If Guilliame is going to head back to see Fini, she wants to come with him. However, if Guilliame isn't going back, she wants Guilliame to look after the shop while she goes and talks with the family.

Guilliame will stay and llok after the shop while Naomi heads across.

Guilliame is just starting to wonder about the whereabouts of Granny when Narissa Teelba enters the shop with a young boy carrying a leather case with a hinged lid.

"Hello, Master de Guilliame," says the woman as she gives the boy a coin. "I've bought in Wilf's things for you to have a look at."

As the young boy exits the shop, Guilliame lifts the case up onto a bench and Narissa opens it for him; it wasn't locked in any way.

Taking a quick look through the contents, Guilliame see the following items:

• A mirror about 10 x 15 cms made of polished silver;
• A leather-bound book slightly larger than the mirror;
• A polished wooden baton about 30 cms long with a tight leather cap pushed over one end;
• A familiar-looking, circular, silver medallion on a bronze chain;
• A small silver tube about 10 cms long and 2 cms thick that is sealed at both ends;
• A rabbit's foot on a short length of broken chain;
• Two semi-precious gemstones: one black and glassy, the other crystalline and white; and
• A lump of dark-coloured wax about 10 cms long by 4 cms wide by 1 cm thick.

"What I want to know," says Narissa, "is whether any of this is more valuable than it looks... Magical maybe?"

"Let me have a look. Can you hand me the items one at a time."

Cast a See the arcane and look at each item to see whether it appears magickal.

[OOC: What follows is the result of a cursory glance at each items; further investigation could reveal more information.]

As the items pass through his hands, he sees that there is only one item that has an obvious magic spell on it, and that is the familiar-looking silver medallion, which looks almost exactly like the one he owns himself; it is a silver journeyman's medallion from the School of Occult Studies.

Turning it so he can look at the cuneiform characters around the rim, he sees it is the medallion of someone called Armand Guss; this is not a name he knows.

OOC Is there a standard procedure for dealing with lost medallions?

"Most of the items don't appear to be magickal. However, this is a journey medallion that belonged to Armand Guss who was a student at the School of Occult Studies. It is specific to him. Does the name ring a bell?"

[[Guilliame would know that the See the arcane cantrip is not infallible as there are other sorts of magic other than Arcane magic. He would also know that even Arcane magic needs to be in the direct line of sight of a person using this cantrip for it to be visible (i.e., objects with spells on them can be hidden or concealed from this cantrip). The Detect Magic spell (which he doesn't yet know) or a success with the Identify spell would definitely determine if an item had magic, Arcane or not. As I said, this is just a cursory glance, but the presence of the journeyman's medallion was noteworthy enough to bring to your attention.]]

"Ooh, a medallion from the School," says Narissa, surprised, but then she says, "No, I don't that name, perhaps it was one of Wilf's friends and Wilf kept it as a keepsake. Going into ancient ruins looking for treasure can be a very dangerous thing to do, I hear..."

After a moment, she adds, "It killed poor Wilf, after all."

"These medallions are of no commercial value and are normally returned to the family or to the school. Would you like me to make enquiries or I can leave it with you."

"No commercial value," Narissa says, sounding uncertain. "Okay... So, don't worry about that one, I'll take care of it... What about the other things?"

"If you have time I will have a closer look now. Otherwise you can leave them with me and I will tell you tomorrow. I won't charge for that but I will have to start candle burning to do more than that."

"Ooh, I would love to watch you work," says Narissa, glancing around the shop. "I've often wondered what go on inside this shop... Ooh, what's in there," she says, pointing at a rough-made crockery pot with the word 'Newt' written on it in.

"That contains the remains of the former speaker of the US house of representatives. You need to leave it alone. You can watch me look more carefully at the other items if you like."

Narissa backs away from the jar with wide eyes. "I'll come back," she says. "This afternoon, if that's alright?"

Narissa heads towards the door and almost runs into Naomi, who is on her way in.

"Hello, Mother Teelba," says Naomi.

"Oh, hello," says Narissa as she heads out that door. "Got to run. Bye."

"What's gotten into her," says Naomi. "She looks as though she's seen a ghost."

"She worries too much." Ask about the pricing of the paper so I can offer at consistent prices.

Also propose another ad on the front window.

"Master Fini told me the prices before he and his family left," says Naomi. "He charges a lion for parchment; 15 cubs for fine vellum, and 2 lions for paper cut to the standard size for the pre-made book covers he has in stock, which he charges a constantine each for."

When Guilliame asks about the sign, Granny Naomi shrugs and says, "Sounds good to me. He seems to make a living at selling this stuff, so I hope it will bring more customers in here."

Then she goes on to say, "How about I look after the shop while you go and get some of his stock... He said you can take anything in the shop proper, but don't touch what's in the storeroom as he wants to have some stock left if things change and he doesn't have to sell up."

Put the sign up and head across with the key to pick up stock. Take a backpack to bring things back in and out a throwing axe in as well.

Guilliame makes his way to Fini's shop and opens the front door. With the shutters barricaded shut, it is quite dark in the building but Guilliame is able to see and collect some of the selections of paper and parchment that are for sale. There are also a range of inks, quills, pens, drying sand and sealing waxes, all with their prices marked, that Guilliame can take some samples of, if he wants. However, if he wants to explore the shop further, he will probably need a light source of some kind.
