"Afternoon, Mr. Roofus, sir!" Barnabus tips a non-existent hat. "Names Barnabus! Barnabus Bailley, my good sir! Pleasure to meet'cha! Sorry to hear 'bout the trouble, but hopefully we'll be able to help straighten it all out." He adds for good measure as he hoped in a seat.

"Well, now that we've all been acquainted, we can get to business. A few weeks ago, we sent an expedition down to Chaute Island to go explore, see if the island can't be turned into a place where people could live. In the process, they unearthed a temple that had been lost to the centuries and explored it." He pauses and a look of solemnity crosses his face. "Out of the 10 explorers that we sent, only one came back, covered in blood and mad. We were able to bring him back to Merisia, but unfortunately his mental condition hasn't improved since returning, so we don't have any way of finding out what happened on the expedition. That's why you're here. Whatever is in that temple, it's obviously bad business, so we need you to enter the temple and clear it out, so that the Bountiful Venture company can work on the island without having to worry about a temple filled with monsters. Should you be successful, you'll be given 500 gold pieces each and you will be able to keep any treasures that you might find in the temple."

Barnabus initially doesn't say anything. He just leans back in his seat, and tries to recall any and all memory of rumors or tales about Chaute Island from possible previous ventures throughout the land. "Ya know I 'eard half'n folk were purtty generous. But that's a lot more than I ever expected. Ya must got a lotta faith in da island doin' ya some real good, Mr. Roofus." He comments on idly.
"We believe that we can turn the island into a profitable settlement, yes."
Barnabus: You don't really know too much about the island, other than that there was a civilization there a few hundred years ago. What happened to it, you can't determine.

Alys couldn't help but let out a gasp of excitement. She'd clap her hand over her mouth, her mind going a mile a minute. MYSTERY ARCHAIC TEMPLE RUINS! Her eyes would dart around as if going through her mind, trying to connect any dots she might know from her research and experience as an archaeologist. She could feel her heart begin to pound in her chest. Mom's half of the map...The cleric would swallow and return her focus back to the present. No. It can't be related to what they were searching for. The wizard would wave her hand as if swatting away a thought.
"Was this temple the only thing of interest found on this island? Any valuable resources? And is it completely uninhabited?"
Hi Noriaki? Are you still there? Can I call you Nori? I realize I haven't taken the time to ask about the rest of your story, but I hope to remember to ask at another time. Right now though, I was wondering... have you ever heard about Chaute Island or a lost temple?
"The island hasn't been inhabited for centuries, hence why the Bountiful Venture company is interested in this island. In terms of natural resources, it has some spices, an iron mine, some tropical produce. It's not devoid of goods, but nothing that doesn't already come through the ports in greater numbers elsewhere."
"Please don't call me that. I spent five centuries compiling knowledge and then had my spirit placed in this cap, I would like to not be referred to by the pet name my parents used during my first few decades of life. As for Chaute Island, I know that at one time before any of you were alive there was a reasonably well-to-do island kingdom. It was going through a bit of a decline during the last century of my life, but to hear that it's completely gone comes as a surprise to me. Not too much of one, given that societies rise and fall all of the time, but still."

Alys' eyes would jolt wide at the sudden chastising she didn't quite expect. She'd look to Vaastra and point towards the cap and mouth to her, 'He's a sassy one.'
"Speaking for myself, I can say that I'm interested in taking on this venture." She'd look around the table to the others.
Completely understandable. My apologies Noriaki. She'd emphasize his name. I appreciate your information on what you've shared so far. It's insightful. Were you familiar with their people or their culture?
"See, now there's the kicker I was looking fer!"Barnabus said, snapping his fingers, then pointing them to Roofus. "Granted, ya already confessed to it not necessarily not bein' better elsewhere. But, somethin' to make it worthwhile fer da company. Thanks fer sling it clearer, Ms. Alys. I sometimes forget a step or two in me word'n of things." He said, and if Alys happened to be arms reach, pats her heartily on an unoccupied shoulder.
"Stupid questions, but I got couple fer ya boss man... How soon are ya want'n us start? As in, today, or we get'n at least a day to settle any last minute affairs now that we know a bit 'bout the stakes. Is it safe to assume ya fit'n the bill fer delivery'n us to the island? And lastly, if'n alright, ya mind we speak to the mad one that return? See if maybe we can work out a few more clues that you've thus far not been able to?"

Rufus shrugs. "I have no issues with whether you speak to him, but it's not up to me at this point, as he currently resides in a sanitarium. But I must advise you to lower your expectations, he is quite mad and no one has been able to get a coherent sentence out of him. You may make any preparations you wish before you set sail, but I must insist on you all signing the liability forms." He points towards the stack of papers in front of you all. "These forms indicate that the Bountiful Venture company cannot be held liable in the event that you perish during this excursion." He turns towards Katsha. "I must also request that you return to your normal form, as this requires that you provide us with a written signature."
Kasha and Obsidian startle violently at hearing her name, obviously caught in the act of doing something not appropriate. Both of their mouths are covered in half eaten food. Reluctantly, she transforms back to half elven form and wipes the crumbs..and something else..from her mouth.
"Oh, alright."Kasha sighs sadly. But then she perks up happily. "Obsidian and I chowed down so much food! I ate too much and too fast so I had to puke, but don't worry..I found the carpet."she nods satisfactorily and looks over the paperwork as if nothing happened.
Alys would look to B, "I would be interested in accompanying you to speak to the survivor should you still wish to go." Her face was a blank slate, as if she were not completely here, her mind off elsewhere in other thoughts. Finally she'd blink, get up from her chair pushing it back. The wizard would reach for the document on the table, pull it towards her, grab the pen, and sign her name.
Alyson Mia Amastacia
She'd lay down the pen and move to the side for anyone else who wishes to sign.
I prefer my pet name. I can still hear her say it... because when she'd say my full name... it was trouble. Whether Noriaki cared to listen to her or not, Alys wouldn't try to hide her thoughts.

Yvan hadn't really signed anything before. His penmanship wasn't... the best out there. Sure, he had wrote down a few little things in his journal, but it was far from beautiful, and, at most, only he could read his chicken scratch. It's just my name, he thought, it isn't that hard. So he picks up the pen and signs the form.

Barnabus gives Alys worrying look, having noted the strange expression on her face. But seeing her become animated once more, he at least seem to brush it off with a smile. "Sure thing, Ms. Alys. I could use the company."He said s he too went over to start to sign, but stops just short of putting ink to paper. ".... It has to be the Common version, right?" He looks up to ask. Once he had his answer, he would either put down Barnabus B. Bailley down... or if okayed for another language, some unintelligible string string of symbols, marks, and just utter nonsense. All of which cause a painful headache to immediately begin brewing the longer someone tries to make sense of it.
As soon as that was done, he'd sit down again, and casually sprawl out somewhat more while awaiting final signatures.
