(I may just be confused, but it seems we need to go all the way back to the stairs to find an area we have not been yet. DM, can you let us know where that would be?)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Olin, still wary and a bit surprised that the chanting spirits actually accepted the spider sacrifice, "I swear the pile of garbage there moved. Perhaps that is where the rats are hiding? But no, I have seen no signs of anything larger than these spiders and centipedes." Olin walks closer to the garbage pile to get a better look, but still keeps a healthy distance.
Kane wades through the water after Olin, dagger in hand. “It would be a shame if you were dragged into a pile of refuse and eaten after the lengths we just took to prevent a death.”
(I think the last junction we took was in the last map in post #287. Just down the small set of stairs, we turned left and went down the big set of stairs down to the hall with pillars in the lower level? But I may be wrong, the DM will set us right.)
Mordekai turns to watch Olin and readies Eldritch Blast. "You thought you saw it move? And decided in this house that the best response was to go closer? I guess we did agree to rid the house of its secrets."
(I cannot beleive you guys are drawing Meepo's attention to a pile of garbage, that may have moved... Come on people...)
Meepo, seeing a pile of discarded things, is nearly overwhelmed with the need to go through it to make sure nothing important was lost in it... he moves towards the pile as the others draw his attention there.
Hearing Kane and Mordekai suggest caution, Olin takes a step back and puts his hand down to stop Meepo. "Wait, Meepo." He turns to the group, "I do not know what we are doing here. This strange room, full of ghosts that want us to kill... anything? There is nothing to save here. The whole place should be destroyed. I agree that a garbage pile is not likely to be the source of the evil here, but what is? If not in here int this strange ritual room, would we find such a thing?"Olin looks exasperated, like the unnatural space of the house is wearing him thin. "I do not want to be here. I think we should leave and burn this whole house to its foundations. I will follow if we're searching for the source of the evil but I do not like this place."
As Olin approaches the pile of garbage, he realizes it's not a pile of garbage. The mass actually appears mostly to be rotting vegetation in a large pile, with rotten leaves, branches, some vines, dead plant chunks and twisted roots. However, as Olin stands next to it, he realizes the matter has no gaps, and that the twisted roots are shaped oddly like veins. No. This is not a pile of dead plants discarded....its a creature, a terrible hunter of the swamps and jungles called a shambling mound. It appears to be sleeping, but were it to wake up, it would definitely seek to kill everything around it.
(The group can decide to battle it, and snuff out this creature if they wish, I'm going to write the next passage back.)
The group seems to have explored this entire deeper dungeon level, and climbs back up the long stairway, around two landings to the next hallway back. The hallway goes straight forward here, or turns right and goes back up a short set of stairs to the intersection that was found just on the far side of the table room. As the group gets to this point and looks around, Olin, you note that there are actually no footprints that go down this hallway. There are old footprints in most other places around here, but this hall is absent of them.

After being told the garbage is not garbage, and is an animal, Meepo loses any interest in it. He turns and heads back the way they came. "Just beasty..." He grumbles as the quick flash of looking through all that stuff for lost things had gotten him excited. "Rat Go..." Meepo sends the zombie tressym flying drunkenly down the path with no footprints.
Mordekai lets the energy of his Eldritch Blast dissipate as Meepo turns away from the refuse heap and a palpable tension in his veins subsides with it. He follows Meepo as he and Rat take the lead exploring.
"Olin, I understand what you're saying, and I think we would all rather leave this house and raze it to the ground, but do you think a bit of fire can rid the ground of such evil? I would be happier to have at least tried to prevent this all happening again to the next poor soul that's lured in here. Besides, we still have the children's remains floating on this magical disk... Um, Meepo, do you know which are the children's bones and which are not on there?"
"Course." Meepo glances over to Mordekai with a frown. "Easy, no lost." He says the latter as if it explains everything. Tugging his disk along, he waits for Rat's report on the hall before heading down it himself.
Rat comes to a clumsy thud at the end of the twenty feet down. Stairs lead up slightly to the right, around a corner probably into the table room. A short stair way leads to the left and open into some other room.
Meepo leads the way after Rat. As he does so, part of the floor he walks across creaks and bounces slightly and he stops moving. The floor is very weak. He figures if any bigs step here they'll most certainly crash through the badly made floor.

"Stop." Meepo holds up a claw to keep anyone from following after. "Floor no good." He explains. He backs up and just looks through Rat's eyes to see what is along the tunnel further along. To back up he will put most of his weight on his floating disk and barely touch the ground as he pushes his way back off of the bad flooring.
Meepo will tell the others he thinks they can go to the table room and get to where Rat is that way, down a different set of stairs. he will have rat go into the different room and check it out.
Rat clambers down the stairs and looks around. There is a room, twenty feet square, with a square of 8 wooden beams holding up the center of the room, in the middle of which is a stone well. Five doorways exit this room, each that has a curtain drawn across it. To the far right hallway leads out of here, and up a short stairway before turning right. The Stone lip is 3 feet high. Rat sneaks around the room, hopping onto the stone lip and looking down. 30 feet below, a layer of water, through which is the rest of a large stone cistern. A wooden bucket hangs from a rope and pulley mechanism bolted into the crossbeams above the well. Taking a quick peak behind the curtains, Rat finds the wizard of oz .. Rat finds 5 small bedrooms. Each contains a foot locker and a sleeping pads on top of wooden beds, all old and dusty. Each footlocker appears to be secured with rusty iron locks.

Olin nods at Mordekai. "Of course, you are probably right. I am not used to dealing with such things. Goblins in the night, owlbears in a glade, bandits at a bridge, these are the trials I am accustomed to. Murderous haunted buildings in strange unnatural lands... this is new ground for me. I will do better." Onlin sighs, "We should definitely find the cause of this and end it, once and for all." Olin looks to Meepo, "Thank you for the warning, friend, I'd rather not fall into an even darker hole than we are already in."
"Rat find bedroom..." Meepo says, a bit surprised. "Need check..." He says excitedly though. Moving the group around, he takes them to the room with the table, then down the other set of stairs. "Lost..." Meepo says as he nods to the rusty locks on the footlockers. "Break open?" He asks the amazonian woman, thinking of how she ripped the lock off that door upstairs. "Meepo bet lost keys, so inside lost now..."
Kane is intrigued by the sagging floorboards, and remains behind to investigate. Considering how far below the earth they are already, the possibility of ever increasing depths is both frightening and intriguing. Dragging the nearest heavy object to the rotting floorboards, he drops it onto the weak point.
(Kane positions himself on the far side so that he does not have to leap the chasm to rejoin his companions.)
Kane drops a bench through the floor. The thin layer of dirt along most of the floor down here conceals two thin boards that crack and give way under the weight. The bench, broken boards, and dirt plummet into a ten foot deep pit, clattering and smashing at the bottom which is set with spikes of wood jabbing upwards. It otherwise appears empty. It's 5 foot wide and easy enough to jump over. Pressing the ground ahead with one foot is enough to ensure there are no more pit traps in the hallway.

Hearing the splintering crash, Mordekai thinks Kane is now dead. He rushes to go and help with whatever has befallen Kane, and as he gets there and sees Kane is totally fine, he tries to turn his panicked sprint into a nonchalant saunter (Just for kicks, Deception: 15). Mordekai peers into the pit, gives a casual shrug, and (assuming we've seen the beds and footlocker now) says to Kane, "Since we're making noise, fancy a game? There are 5 small chests, all locked. How about we each pick one, bust it open, and whoever owns the most valuable stuff...or doesn't die...wins?"
