Gramm places 2 silver coins on the bar and takes a long drink from the ale. He places the now lighter mug back on the bar and exhales slowly feeling the stress of the road leaving his body.
Missing people you say? Increased raids and new sightings? What are your town elders doing about these threats?
Liliana continues to listen to the exchange between Sindral and Gorarel. "Dragons usually have a hoard do they not" she mused to herself "and a hoard could mean a nice pay day for myself. But if the rumours are true and it's just manticores then I will have wasted all that time for nothing".
Shrugging her shoulders realising that she had nothing better to do she stands and walks towards Sindral and Gorarel. "And if either one of you want to live through this adventure you may want someone with you who can scout silently and open any door blocking yourpath." Reaching the men she smiled "For a fair share of the profit of course"
The man behind the bar collects the 2 pieces and says: "Not much can be done, I'm afraid... Townmaster Harbin sent word to Neverwinter. In the meantime, if threat comes to Phandalin, we'll do our best to defend it." As he's saying this, he puts his hand under the bar and brings out a hand axe. Putting it back, he adds, nodding towards South: "But we're no warriors to take the fight out there."
Gorarel looks the half-elf up and down and cracks a half smile bemuses:"Well you'll do better than the drunks we're likely to find at the inn I suppose. Most of them tend to make racket breathing. I will warn you that there is unlikely we will find much, but I will assure you that we will split any valuables between us."
After a very brief pause: "Equally." he adds, after seeing a mischievous glint in her eyes.
"You may have overheard our conversation, and therefore know I am Gorarel, what is your name?"
Liliana grinned widely at Gorarel "Not as gullible as you appear are you. Well met Gorarel" then turning to face Sindral "Well met Sindral. The name is Liliana"
"Now I don't know about either of you but I find that someone hiding behind locked doors usually has something to hide." dropping her voice down to a whisper she winks conspiratorially "Fancy breaking in and seeing what this gentleman is hiding from us?"
Trying very hard not to laugh at the sneakiness of Gorarel. "Fine, fine you win." she sighs dramatically throwing her hands in the air "Lead the way".
Turning towards the door she lowers her voice so only her companions can hear her
Elvish:
"Point out his house and we can take a wander round. Who know what... clues... may be waiting to be discovered in his home. It would probably be faster if I go alone and meet you all at the inn but it's you choice if you want to join - just don't expect me to hang about if you get caught".
Thilael was calmly listening to the conversation while looking down at the owl sitting on the bar arranging its stray feathers. He seemed a bit shaken when Gramm addressed the question. Almost as if he was expecting to continue being just a witness to this whole conversation.
Ah me? You could say that as a scholar I'm always attracted by troubled times. In my book, when there's trouble, there's also a treasure of...information that could be found, don't you think so? And this dragon...I must say, I'm very intrigued. Thilael then extends his slender arm towards the Gramm: I'm Thilael of Reinriel. So do tell me, what brings a, Dragon, Born, in this area?, he asked with a smile building up as he was finishing the question.
As you three exit the building, you see a young man riding a horse pull to a stop, eyeing you closely. "Ah, Gorarel, it's good to see you back and safe. I've heard there were strangers around the Hall." He's studying Liliana's face intently as he's saying that, then looks at Sindrall, too. "New friends? Welcome to Phandalin!"
Sindrall chuckles to himself at how easily some humans are distracted by pretty things. Looking at the young man he says "Thank you for the welcome, I am Sindrall, follower of Helm"
Gorarel bounds up to the and takes the humans hand in both of his: "Lennan, what a pleasure it is to bump into you. Thank you again for fixing up the roof before I left, My mother has assured me that there has been no leaks since."
Gorarel turns to his new friends: "Lennan is one of the people that patrol and keep a close eye on the town, It is largely due to him there is lack of crime in Phandalin."
Subtly it seems as if that last sentence was for Liliana in particular.
"These two I have just met at the hall. Sindrall has introduced himself and this is Liliana. They have agreed to help me investigate this dragon business."
"Ha! You give me to much credit. This is a peaceful town of hard working people. I'll leave you to your business now. Pray that Helm protects us in these trying times, Sindrall. Stay safe!"
With that, Lennan continues his patrol, heading east. Two children of about 10 run past you, "Hello, mister ranger!", then past Lennan, "Slow down, children. Don't stray too far!"
Liliana raises a single eyebrow at Gorarel and whispers quietly to him
Elvish:
"I am not some greenhorn who would attempt to investigate somewhere with guards in the middle of the day. Better to wait till nightfall or till we have more people in our party we can use as a distraction. Personally I vote for the distraction - much more entertaining"
"Now that we have met the charming guard of the village" she says walking in step with Sindrall in the direction of the inn. "Master dwarf I have a question of great importance I would like to ask you. Who do you think would win a drinking contest between yourself and Gorarel?"
Sora intently fixes on the conversation at the bar, though the hum of the tavern makes it difficult to catch more than a few words here and there. Talk of dragons? she mused to herself, concerned. If it were true a lot of folk in the surrounding areas could be in real danger.
The barman glances in her direction, catching her mid-stare. Flustered, she quickly finishes the few morsels that remain of her breakfast, downs the remains of her tankard and stands to leave.
As she approaches the bar, she turns to the barman. Am I right in overhearing that there's a dragon in the mountains?she queries. Has anyone been to investigate? I'd be happy to lend my services to a scouting party, or to help with protecting the town.
The barman answers Sora:"There's a dragon up there, that's for certain, but I'm afraid I don't know much. Our hopes lie with Neverwinter sending help. Our local ranger, Gorarel, is out scouting, you can ask him when he's back. In the meantime, our townmaster regularly puts up jobs on a board outside the town hall. We appreciate all the help we can get. These are hard times, especially for those on the outskirts."
Gramm had seemed lost in his drink but perks up as the conversation continues
He turns to Thilael and shakes his hand
Well met, I'm Gramm. I was travelling through to Neverwinter but I feel my path may have led me here at an opportune time. Talk of a dragon's wealth of information is also quite appealing he adds with a smirk
Gramm nods to Sora who had quietly joined the conversation
It's seems tales of dragons and missing towns folks are all to common these days. If you intend to scout for them I would be happy to lend my services.
Responding to Liliana's question Sindrall lets out a huge laugh: "Well I have the honor of my clan to uphold and when our business is concluded I will happily show you a dwarf's drinking prowess!"
Sora nods to the barman Thank you for the information, it sounds like immediate action is needed to help protect the surrounding townsfolk.
She turns to Gramm and the high elf. Well met. My name is Sora; I'd be glad for some company while investigating these rumours. Might I join you a drink while we await Gorarel's return?

What brings you to the edge of the mountains?

Gorarel, also hushed, in Elvish:
Elvish:
"It seems a little unwise to me to break in to the room whilst he is in there, however I point out his house if you want to scope the place out."
Gorarel, raising her voice more pronounced: "Let us head out to recruit some more gullible comrades from the Inn".
Trying very hard not to laugh at the sneakiness of Gorarel. "Fine, fine you win." she sighs dramatically throwing her hands in the air "Lead the way".
Turning towards the door she lowers her voice so only her companions can hear her

Gorarel, Sindrall, Liliana

In a hushed elvish voice to Lililana:
Elvish:
"Best leave the breaking and entering for another time, The house is that one right next to Lennan."
More audible: "Best head to the Inn to see if there are any other willing participants for this quest."
Liliana raises a single eyebrow at Gorarel and whispers quietly to him
Elvish:

Gramm turns back to the barkeep.
When do you expect Gorarel to return?
"He should be back any day now, he's been out for a long time."
(Sindrall, Liliana, Gorarel you can make your entrance any time)
Responding to Liliana's question Sindrall lets out a huge laugh: "Well I have the honor of my clan to uphold and when our business is concluded I will happily show you a dwarf's drinking prowess!"
