The town square was packed, barely room even for a gnome to squeeze by. The fair of the Mad Wizard Abernath was in town and nobody wanted to miss the spectacle. He had caged monsters from across the world captured and held by his powerful magic, in cages he devised. He delighted the crowds with grand illusions and authentic creations from thin air. He even transformed volunteers into a variety of critters to delight the children and adults alike. A vast army of merchants and vendors traveled with Abernath and his fair and brought smiles and prosperity wherever he stopped. Then suddenly he was gone. There was no trace or clue of what happened to the popular showman/ wizard. The vendors all packed up and left and the people were disappointed the planned weeklong festivities were over. Nobody ever saw the wizard again. Now, 60 years later rumors started to surface that the Wizard had a tower secretly built somewhere on the sword coast. A tower where he kept a vast treasure and magical secrets. Some say he has been there the whole time.
Bellows was glad to be off the ship. He had intended on sailing into Neverwinter, but didnt have enough funds. As it was he had to agree to entertain the ships crew during the voyage to secure passage this far. One of the rumors he was following up on suggested Abernath had at one time lived in a house in or near Luskan so it seemed good enough to Bellows as a jumping off point.
Unsure of the reception a kobold would receive in this town, he keep his cloak tightly closed and his hood over his head, hoping his snout wouldnt draw too many looks. He was going to find a place to stay, first an foremost and then secure supplies for a journey into the wilderness or wherever the trail leads.
Lia walked along the street of Luskan, her white blond hair left loose to flow in the slight breeze off of the Sea of Swords. She was thrilled with the many eyes that moved to her, and followed her, seeing many a young man bump into his fellows, or, in one instant, right off a dock into the harbor. She reveled over her beauty and its affects on these simple humans. Among her own kind she was considered loathsome in the extreme.
Spotting a strange sight, she glanced after a short figure in a cloak. Was that a snout sticking out from under the cloak? The figure was only about 2 and a half feet tall, so it had to be a child, or was it something else... Her interest peeked, Lia turned and followed after the figure.
Mikhail breathed deep and instantly regretted it. It had been a truly long time since he had been around civilization, let alone a city. He had called various abandoned mines within the The Crags as home as he carefully cultivated his research. It had proven useful as he was able to connect with a rare source of divine magic connected to the plane of Earth. Having completed his life's mission, the older dwarf had decided to return to the lands of men.
It was not all bad however as the thick smell of delicious food and the potential for ale certainly drove him on. He was looking forward to the next journey in his life.
He was tall for a dwarf and surprisingly thin, bald with a ruffled white beard. His armor was worn and shoddy but serviceable. He walked down the thoroughfare of Luskan in pursuit of a much anticipated drink.
After asking for directions to an inn, Bellows is sent to the Fisbone tavern, just down the road from the docks. The locals like to call the Fishbone by another name, " the Busted Knuckle" since it has become more famous for its brawls than its beer. But, the rooms are cheap and so is the food. And the owner doesnt care one way or the other about who stays there, as long as they pay..

The BK was not the place Lia preferred to spend her time, but she followed the small figure inside and found a table easily enough. Giving several of the patrons a coy smile as they checked her out, Lia kept an eye on the slight figure she had been following, wondering what such a person might be up to. She found things that were out of the ordinary tended to be the most exciting to learn more about.
" Thank you Sir for the room and the special rate. I will make you that potion we discussed as soon as I can collect the materials."
Bellows heads up to his little room to change clothing. He puts on a comfortable robe and his tribal mask, gifted to him by an island shaman. It makes him feel instantly more secure and confident...and as a plus, it gives his diminutive self a little bit of intimidation factor for those he comes in contact with. At least that is how he feels wearing it. He spends a little time logging his journey and the names of people he met In his journal. Taking note of those who were kind and those who were not. He then heads down to the tavern to get some food, some wine and ask about the Arcane brotherhood. A guild within the city that wields some influence and a good place to learn more about Abernath the infernal. Bellows loves to say the words " the Infernal " One day he will be known by an awesome moniker as well.
Lean half-elf with dark grayish pale skin and long white braided hair sits alone next to one of the smaller tables in the Fisbone tavern. He is coated in thick worn green cloak. Old wide-brimmed hat lays on the table next to his meal and few silver coins. His backpack and walking staff lays under the table.
As he finishes his simple cheap fish based meal strange person catch his attention. Small lizard like person dressed in a robe with a glass of wine in its small hand.
Snus loves mysteries. He takes from one of his pockets little cooper wire and whispers to it with a soft almost feminine voice:
The old dwarf makes his way into a rowdy joint known as the Fishbone. He clunks his way over and orders a room from the tender. He briefly stops by the rented room and drops his pack and shield to then head back to the common room. The wizened dwarf orders a pint and looks for somewhere to sit.
Feeling that tingle when magic is being used on him and hearing the strangers voice in his head he looks around for the fellow doing the trick. In his head he answers " looking for some food and doing some research." Not really knowing if his answers can be heard or if the spell only works one way..he skipped class when they covered that stuff. He scans the tables hoping the fellow will show a sign, it's been weeks since he has had a conversation.
Seeing the little kobold look up as if startled, Lia glances around in turn, trying to see who, or what, has gotten the little one's neck hairs astir. Regardless if she notices anything, she will move over and take a seat at the table with the kobold.
"You look fierce with that mask." Lia informs the small figure as she takes a seat, brushing white blond hair back over her shoulder and smiling to several men who are staring at her. "What brings you to Luskan?" she asks the kobold.
Yensen found himself being pulled in to the festivities of the patrons of this local tavern. He'd been travelling for a fair amount of time, he couldn't recall exactly how long, when he had happened upon a young man who couldnt have been more then 19. and his cart stuck blocking the road to Luskan. Of course he had helped the lad free himself from the situation and at the youths exuberant insistence had accepted a ride the rest of the way into town and a drink at a place called the Fishbone Tavern. While the distraction from his usual rough and tumble adventuring life was a welcome reprieve, the young man and his compatriots volume was beginning to turn to levels that bothered even Yensen.
He turned from the bar, third drink in hand and walked back to find a place with a little more peace any distance from the main shenanigans of the youngster. And as he walked he saw the most stunning women he had possibly ever seen in his rather humble life. Normally he would keep to himself but with the liquid courage imbued he couldn't help himself.
"Hello there Miss" Yensen said with a little more enthusiasm then he normally would.
"I'm looking for a bit of a quieter spot and all the other tables seem to be rather full, may i join you? " Yensen finished with a warm smile on his face, he hadn't really looked around yet but hopefully this beautiful woman would take it as a light hearted joke.
The dwarf spots a solitary person sitting at a perfectly good common table and all but tromps over. On his way he notes the smaller pointed ears and sits across from the Half Elf, "Don't mind me lad, just resting me weary feet. This place is filling fast, table's going to become prime real estate. You just come in to town too?" He runs a hand down his chin to his beard, to smooth any stray hairs down, then takes a long pull on his drink.
" why thank you Miss. It was a gift to me by a tribal Chieftain I ran into on an Island when I was younger. I was fascinated by his culture and stay for a little while to learn about them. This mighty mask was a gift he gave me for helping his wife get better with a potion I made for her. The first one I ever made that actually worked" he laughs a bit and then continues, " I am in Luskan looking into a grand mystery. A puzzle to be solved that will make me a famous sorcerer without having to spend 30 years in school. My name is Bellows, what is yours?"
" Oh, hello there..." he says as Yessen shows up at the table. Obviously having missed the short guy in the mask sitting across from the woman. He seems likeable, if a little tipsy
As the dwarf puts his pint on the table Snus shifts his green hat a little to prevent it from eventual spills.
He looks at an old dwarf, takes a puff from pipe and with his quite high pitch but at the same time deep voice:
"Yes old man. I am just a simple traveling fisherman. The whale hunting season ended in my village so i collected my share and..well here I am... What about you?"
The dwarf nods, "Honorable work that, doing the whale fishing. Hard work too, feed a lot of people with hauls. Me? I am just in from the Crags, been up there for about twenty years give or take. Figured I got what I went for and so now is the time to use it."
The half elf seemed a bit distracted to Mikhail but in the end, his business was his business. The dwarf downed another pull.
"My name?" Lia asks with a smile. "Well I am called Lia..." as the slightly drunken adventurer comes over Lia would glance up at him, giving him a coy smile. "Sure, you can have a seat..." She says. Turning back to the kobold. "Tell me more about this research you are doing that will do so much to increase your stature..."
"Yeah I see...true..whales are big...males even bigger..but i just help on the deck and in the harbor like all of us in the village..there are only few real hunters like my father.."
Then Snus points whit his smoking pipe at Bellow
"So mr dwarf what do you think about this strange fellow? He just showed up and already he has two new companions. As far as i know this stranger is doing some research here"
"Oh, the name is Mikhail. Mr. Dwarf was me father," he said as he shifts his gaze to follow the pipes path.
"The wee one? Well, he seems to have attracted the attention of the prettier patrons in the place and who wears a mask to dinner? Other than that, none of my business really. Though it is bound to be an interesting tale on what he is looking to study."
While he played it fairly nonchalant the man did pique his curiosity. Who was that, why the mask?
