Syl will take a little time in the morning to practice his spells. He was so excited to get out in the wilderness and exercise his abilities, but feels he's getting rusty. When Ganod is up and ready to move again, Syl will keep his eyes peeled for any dangers as they travel.
The mountain air is mild and windy as you find your way forward along the narrow strip that runs between the great river and the canyon wall. Small bears can be spotted hunting salmon on the far shore of the river, much smaller than whatever it was that made the scratches and bite marks on the trees that were noticed yesterday. You also notice that some trees along the way have been harvested by axe, the first signs of human (or humanoid) activity you have seen in many a day.
At mid-day, you come to where the river begins to take a wide bend to the right at which point it spreads out into a shallow rocky ford which can be easily crossed. On either side of the ford, a broad dirt road winds its way through the mountains. On the near side, the road leaves the river behind, climbing up and out of the canyon and through the mountains beyond to your left. On the far side, the road continues down the canyon along the river's right bank. Tall mountains surround you on all sides except directly ahead of you, away from the river, you can see down into a tumbled and forbidding badlands that lies on a low plateau on the mountains' flank.
