Name: Yed Orilo Class, Race, Background: Barbarian (Path of Berserker) , Goliath, Bodyguard Quote: “I’ve never known a home without you in it. I’ve read books and been loved by both you & Lord Henry. I’ve watched skylines and am able to feed the horses, at least when the stable men aren’t watching. Thank you. For everything.” Treasured Possession: A bright blue feather earring worn in his right ear, a gift from Alice. Backstory: Yed was not raised in a bloodthirsty and tough Goliath clan like most of his race. No Yed was sold to Lord Henry Gotienne, a kind hearted but sickly lord who had been in the city with his daughter when Yed was being sold. Both children of similar age but of vastly different origins, Henry’s daughter Alive was immediately drawn to the skinny and scared looking Goliath child who already towered over her. Lord Gotienne had anincreasing fear that his sickly state will eventually lead to a bloody power grab. So with the safety of his daughter in mind Henry bought the young Goliath to be both protector and friend to his isolated daughter. Lord Gotienne had many friends, and even more enemies. Years passed and Yed grew to be a quite man who to this day still is scarred by the circumstances that lead him to that marketplace. Alice has become a beautiful and intelligent woman who is marrying the man her father last set her up with before his death. With them to be married, Alice knows Yed will no longer be allowed as her own person guard as her new husband has a particular disdain for the “monstrous” races. She now implores Yed to explore a life separate from her, a life of his own. Not accepted by both Goliath and man, Yed does not know his worth away from protecting Alice.
Summary: Goliath abandoned at birth and adopted into a house of higher nobility. The experience bonded him close with humans and lead to him knowing much knowledge not really the usual for Goliaths. He is now being pushed to find his own purpose in life, something he’d never even thought of for himself. He was extremely isolated from staying in the Gotienne Estate with Alice most of his life.
Backstory: Stormgrim is the youngest child of one of the heads of Clan Rockseeker. He had enough money to be a nuisance and not enough responsibility to teach him otherwise. To his family's astonishment - and relief - one day he packed up and left. In his determination to set out immediately, he never mentioned to anyone where he was going or why, but he headed to a monastery close by. After much study and contemplation - and maturation, to be sure - he felt called to return to the world at large and be reconciled with those he had wronged. Gundren is at the top of this list, and Stormgrim and come to seek him out and do what he can to redeem himself in his cousin's eyes.
There were lots of great applications, but I've chosen the players. If we need replacements, the rest of you will have priority. Whether it's with me or with others, I hope you all have fun adventuring!

The characters have just arrived in Orlane (my version of Phandalin), a town terrorized by a group of bandits called the Redbrands. You should think of a reason for why your character is in Orlane, and why they'd want to help the party. Of course, some of that will arise naturally through play.
Currently, our characters are
Big Bear, half-orc druid
Shamash, Dragonborn Paladin
Yed, Goliath Barbarian
Doc, human rogue
The group already has front-line fighters and support, so I'm probably looking for an arcane caster. If you previously applied, feel free to reuse that character or create a new one.

Name: Kelnan Ariessus Class, Race, Background: Elf Wizard, Sage Quote: “If you don’t like to read, you haven’t found the right book.” Treasured Possession: A well-worn copy of elven legends. He is sure these legends are more true than most believe. Backstory: Kelnan is a university professor of magic and history, on sabbatical and exploring the countryside in search of folktales and undiscovered knowledge. He is particularly interested in tales and legends and how they relate to true history. He comes to the countryside in search of both funding for his research, as well as new leads on stories, cultures, hidden treasures, and fantastic magical items. Improving his magical skills is a plus of course.
Quote: "A sharp mind is deadlier than a sharp sword"
Treasured Possession: A wooden ink pen handed down from his father's line of renown wizards
Backstory: Daxian was raised in the sword coast in the hills of a quiet village. He kept to himself for the most part but did frequent a few places, mainly the tavern once per tenweek in Orlane to take a break from his studies. His family is rumored to be from around the area generations back. His fathers before him fought back the evil to protect their way of life in furthering the study and use of magic. Older now, he never married nor fathered children devoting all of his time to learning. He longs to put his 'paper' to practice but has not yet had a real opportunity beyond helping his local village.
Quote: "My scars are on the inside, and while they will never heal, they give me this power."
Treasured Possession: The pouch that Ezveen carries her arcane crystal. It's sewn from the cloak of her deceased brother.
Backstory: Ezveen and her twin brother were born to a elf father and human mother. They grew up with few friends due to their mixed blood, which lead them to heavily rely on each other. Upon reaching adulthood the siblings set off on an academic expedition. They studied the history of their world and ancestry, planning to write their own text. However, the health of Ezveen's brother began to deteriorate. No one had any answers to why he declined so quickly, nor were any treatments successful. After the death of her brother, Ezveen set out with the goal to bring him back. This eventually led to her encounter with what would become her patron. Her patron demands souls, and teases of power to bring her brother back. Ezveen uses her crystal to cast her new magic and to gather souls for her patron, and will continue to do so no matter how long it takes.
I'll probably make my decision in about 24 hours, just so you know.

Name: Freedom Class, Race, Background: Sorcerer, Tiefling, Inheritor Quote: "Don't try to tell me my destiny, and I won't tell you yours. Don't tell try to tell me your destiny, either. In fact, let's forget about destiny altogether." Treasured Possession: A black, dragon-headed arcane rod. ("Treasured" might not be the right word -- see below -- but he's not ready to part with it.) Backstory: When white scales began to coat Freedom's extremities, he thought his parents would be as horrified as he was. Instead, they were ecstatic. Apparently, this meant that he was destined to lead a glorious revival of the family's dragon cult, which Freedom, heretofore, had known nothing about. His parents presented him with a black, dragon-headed rod that had belonged to an ancestor which allowed him to focus the font of magic within him, as well as a formulary of the cult's practices. Horrified by what he read and what was expected of him, he ran away (and assumed the new name, Freedom).
