This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"Oh, his name escapes me at the moment, but lets set that aside for a moment," she stalls, buying time for Rastaris to come back. "Caravan guarding is mighty dangerous work and I am in need of a spear, shortbow/longbow, arrows, rope, and pitons. Do you happen to have any of those?" She says this in a gruff voice hoping to appear more menacing and caravan guard-like.
She makes one more attempt at convincing the woman she's a caravan guard: Perusasion 21
The obvious insincerity and lack of social graces displayed by Alianna and Mithrokk fail to convince the tradeswoman. She also refers them to the townmaster.
OOC - The innkeeper's name probably escapes your party since none of you asked his name. He's only a nameless NPC, after all ...
Rastaris approaches the townmaster's hall. The lounging guards don't challenge him.
"Just knock on the door", one of them says. "He hasn't been out in over a week."
If Rastaris knocks on the door ...
... a voice on the other side says, "Step away from the door so I can get a good look at you. Hhhmm, you're not one of the townsfolk. A sell-sword, I suppose. If you're here about the job, I need an important package retrieved from Gnomengarde and brought back to me as soon as possible. The fee is fifty gold pieces. Take it or leave it."
OOC: Rastaris asked the name of the innkeeper but he didn't provide it. Kinda shifty. :)
Rastaris knocks.
Rastaris bows and then straightens up before talking.
"Hail and well met Townmaster. My group and I are at your disposal. We do have prior business in Gnomengarde and we would be delighted to receive said package and deliver it to you. As you mentioned, we are not locals so if we could only trouble you with the directions to Gnomengarde or possibly a map to guide us there. And if may ask your indulgence, we have just recently arrived in Phandalin and we will need to reequip ourselves for the journey, if you could please provide us some written authorization to purchase items from the Lionshield Coster. Lionshield Coster has the items we need but has advised us to get permission from you."
After speaking, Rastaris bows again and maintains the position until the Townmaster finishes making his reply.
Rastaris makes sure to get a table with his back to the wall and which has a full view of the common room.
He sets his belongings down and removes his travelling cloak and tries to squeeze as much water from it before setting it aside on an empty chair.
His arms are wrapped in bandages and he wears fingerless gloves. The bandages also can be seen on his neck, peeking sometimes from beneath his high collar.
He sits down and begins to eat the stew that was brought, pausing several times to take a large gulp of ale.
He motions to the others. "Let us eat and drink for now while we wait for our rooms. Take this time to replenish your strength. One never knows when the Lady of Fortune may turn her gaze away."
Once he finishes a serving or two of stew, he takes out a simple map provided by their common employer. He studies it for a moment. He approaches the innkeeper.
"My name is Rastaris. Thank you for your hospitality. I am sorry but I didn't catch your name?"
"As I mentioned earlier, we are headed to Phandalin and from there to the gnomes of Gnomegarde. Would you know where that is?"
"And could you point out where we are?" - Rast offers the map to the innkeeper.
OOC - Sorry, missed that part. Since you're the one actually making small talk with the innkeep, you're the only one who knows his name is Erl Silverstag.
"All right, it's a deal then," Harbin Wester says from behind the door. "Just wait."
A few minutes later, a packet of papers is slipped under the door to Rastaris.
"Gnomengarde is the home of a clan of recusive rock gnomes," Wester says. "They reside in a smll network of caves to the southeast. The gnomes of Gnomengarde are known for their magical inventions, and they have something which I need. Go look for their kings, Gnerkli and Korboz, and ask them for what Harbin Wester has paid for."
The packet contains a map to Gnomengarde, a sealed letter addressed to Gnerkli and Korboz, and a note to someone named Linene Graywind, giving her permission to supply the party with weapons.
He makes his way to the Lionshield Coster hoping to find his companions (though he hopes they are not still trying to convince Linene to sell them stuff).
If the group is still inside, Rastaris enters and speaks:
"Madam Graywind, good day to you again."
He bows and hands her the note from the town master addressed to her.
"As you suggested, the town master has allowed us to avail of your services."
"Please also let us know if you need anything delivered to Erl Silverstag of the Peryton. We may be returning there after our business here."

OOC: Hi lawyers, what are recusive rock gnomes? Do they have a tendency to excuse themselves from cases because of conflict of interest or lack of impartiality?
Farnakees asks the proprietress, "Mademoiselle Graywind, have you any longswords of fine quality for sale? I wish to sell my scimitar and get one of those..."
Linene reads the note and begins taking out her available weapons for you to choose from. However, she tells Rastaris that she doesn't sell adventuring equipment.
"Try Barthen's Provisions on the other side of town," she suggests.
OOC: Backread, please. Lathalas already made some purchases at Barthen's. Your party funds are down to 70 gp.
OOC: In alea veritas...

Lathalas side-eyes Alianna but not as much as he did Mithrokk.
OOC: I take it Rastaris is now on a solo mission to get permission from Townmaster Wester.
OOC: If the shopkeeper still won't sell anything to Lath after trying to show his bona fides, Lath accompanies Rast to the Townmaster.
The obvious insincerity and lack of social graces displayed by Alianna and Mithrokk fail to convince the tradeswoman. She also refers them to the townmaster.

Rastaris then bows and then leaves the building.

If the group is still inside, Rastaris enters and speaks:
Lathalas seeks a spear, a handaxe, shortbow/longbow, and arrows.
Assuming we are there at the Lionshield Coster:
"We are also in need of some hempen rope and pitons, around 20 pieces should do."
In making some small talk:
"By the way, would you perhaps have met Alchamazar the Red. Erl mentioned he hired him to deal with an infestation of rats in the cellar."
OOC: Hi lawyers, what are recusive rock gnomes? Do they have a tendency to excuse themselves from cases because of conflict of interest or lack of impartiality?

With the trade-in of the scimitar, Lianne will sell you a longbow, handaxe, longsword, spear, and 2 quivers with 20 arrows each for 70 gp.
OOC - Why are you putting stuff I have to read in the spoiler section?
Linene hasn't heard of Alchamazar the Red, but suggests asking around the Stonehill Inn.
