Taviel wanted to rest, and very much so. But before she did, she asked for help from others to secure Valen's body: "We are not leaving him to be eaten by that thing." It was not a question, but a statement - they knew each other only for a few days, but went through a lot together and leaving his body as a food for a monster was unacceptable.
"Certainly you can rest." The roper says, tendrils whirling as it considers this. "I'll make sure the drakes, and, if they return, the kobolds don't bother you."
"I suppose you have to take that one..." The roper says as Taviel adjusts Valen's body, gathering his glaive and placing him with his bedroll covering him. The roper sounds a bit disappointed, but does not stop you.
The two guard drakes growl and pace, but stay back from where you are all gathered again under the roper. Do you sleep under the roper, or return to the ledge overlooking the chamber? Either place will get you a long rest, so go ahead and take one now.
For the last hour of the rest, Toc sits before Valen's body, singing an old elven song of rest quietly under his breath, ushering his soul to the afterworld of his gods. He cleans Valen's face, neck and hands and lays him in a position of rest, his hands folded over his chest, his mouth and eyes closed. He places two coins, one over each eye. He puts Valens shield over his chest and hands. Using detect magic he notices his magical Glaive and places it to one side along with Valen's backpack and his coin pouch.
Once the long rest is done, Toc looks to the group. "I have done my best to honor our fallen companion. Needlessly paying the price for our rash behavior, rushing into battle. He has 79 gold coins, and his glaive here is magical. If anyone can use it, I would think he would be honored to have someone put it to good use. Otherwise we should split up the remaining mundane gear. We have a task to do, to find this roper some food, and then retrieve those dragon eggs, which we can decide the fate for later on."
As they depart the spot at the top of the stairs, Toc summons magically energy into him and releases it as a magical field of protection around his body. (Mage Armor).

Once they wake, Germain spends some time fiddling with some components and assembles a strange set of goggles, at the same time, the magic on the glaive fades away. At Toc's comments, "That magic was something I'd placed on it earlier. I have reclaimed it for now to create these to help me see better down here without announcing our presence like last time, just in case of any more surprises. As for his coin, perhaps we should save it separate for now, we might be able to use it to pay someone to resurrect him. Anyway, who wants to work on the curtain, and who wants to work on getting the eggs out?"
Naroth says a prayer for Valen before he rests. "Are we taking the body with us, or do we possibly ask the roper to protect the body for now, which I am not so sure it would. So far it does appear to be honoring our truce so it might. Or I can carry the body with me and hopefully lay it down gently before we enter any combat. I am good with either way."
When the gorup is ready to move on Naroth will go to one of the sides of the curtain and gently start to push it out of the way so he can peek in to see what lays beyond.
"Define "work"." Taviel was definitely not the one, who could lift a dragon egg. The curtains, though, puzzled her: "We probably can all deal with the curtains and when the creature leaves, take the eggs. And Valen's body too, of course. If there is a way to return him to life yet - we shall find it. But I do not understand - what is so special about that curtains?" She summoned Mage Hand and tried to move some part of the curtains away.
The roper is agast that he would do anything to Valen's body, as it has not aged enough at this point. He doubts if you will be gone long enough for the body to age enough, unless you don't return.
"Oh... That explains the problem with the curtains." Taviel shared the observation with others and summoned a little ball of fire in her hand. "You think it will burn fast?"
Germain will move to check over the eggs and look into how to best carry them out of the caves.

They are large, 150 lb pound eggs. They are 3ft in size. Not sure what else you wish to know. If you want to know what kind of egg, then give me a nature check. Otherwise they are eggs, so breakable if not handled with some care, but they are dragon eggs, so can handle some jostling, just don't drop them.
Naroth comes over to look at the eggs after dropping the curtain as quickly as he can, Yea I aint going near that curtain again anytime soon, he thinks.
"I can carry one of those eggs if we want to take them anywhere, but why don't we just destroy them?"

(I'd been thinking of something like how thick the shells might be and if we can roll them out.)

Toc, apparently untouched by the battle nods, "Yes, could use some of my magic restored. A rest would do well."

You feel the sharp point of one of the barbs, but, barely, are able to pull your hand back before it pierces your skin. (DC was only 10.)
