Ramious seemed to fit in with each part of this place. Rough, business like, ready to fight, and not terribly focused on manners. He watched with wide eyes as the beer and pies are brought in. This seems to be a trend, to feed adventurers before they head out, and he was all for it. A mug of beer in his hand, his bag leaning against the wall, his other hand holding a meat pie up to his face as he chewed, crumbs of pastry falling down his chest. He nodded with satisfaction at the half-orc spoke, making noises like "mmmhmmm", "mmmm", "unhhh" and "hunnhhmmm".
He was into his second pie, looking down towards the desk thinking about everything he was told, a furrow on his face as Bernard begins to break down the work in the most insane way possible. Ramious' gaze slowly rose upwards, though still staring at the air, until he was staring straight ahead, a look that said, "what in blue blazes?" more clearly than speaking, then swung his face around to look at Bernard clearly wondering what was wrong with their new companion. He held the look for a few awkward moments.
Without a word he sighed heavily and took a swig of beer, then replied to the half-orc as he brushed crumbs off his face.
"Seems straight forward. You know...who writes these scribbles? Who is wandering around writing down crazy details and making up fanciful stories......" he cuts himself short, and glances at Alyssa. "Oh...I mean....it's...good thing they ..uh..do. We would uh...wouldn't know what to do otherwise." He smiles a big smile at her and slaps her playfully on the shoulder.
"I guess none of yer people been up that way looking for it? If any have, it'd be good to have a local show us the way. If not, that's fine too. Ok, show us this mountain.."

Alyssa would tiptoe in behind the others, holding herself politely as she's accustomed too. Though, she did appreciate the relaxed atmosphere for what it was. Her head would move as she'd take a look around. The elf was guilty of sharing the excitement with Ramious to help herself to the generous meal that was brought before them, though she didn't show it in the same boisterous way he did. As expected, Alyssa was more reserved, though she never chastised him. She enjoyed their thieflings company as he let loose and got comfortable.
The archaeologist had taken her seat maybe a little too close to Ramious, and had layed out her notebook on the table with her plate of goodies close by. Alyssa of course would be taking notes from the half-orc's presentation. As the crumbs tumbled from her companion's direction, she'd simply wave them away nonchalantly using prestidigitation to keep her notes clean.
By Ramious' second pie, Alyssa finally got started on her first slice. She'd lean into him as he pointed out their new addition's way of processing the information. "I mean Bernard's a little quirky."
"QUIRKY BER-" Alyssa would cover Hue's beak.
"Quirky BIRD. A quirky bird. Haha." The elf would clear her throat and give her raven a look before looking to Ramious in a lower voice. "But I'm a fan. His summarizing out loud helped me with my notes." The elf would return to her plate with pink cheeks.
Alyssa would raise her brows when Ramious would comment about making up fanciful stories and clapping her on the shoulder. She'd put up a finger wondering if she should bother defending herself, but the truth was, she was proud of what she brought to the table. "Fanciful stories drive my whole profession. It's fun to discover what's real and what is fake. Plus, without us scribblers, how will grand adventurers like yourself have a tale to share." She'd smile with a wink, clamping her notebook shut and tucking it into her bag to spare it from any additional crumbs. The elf would return to finishing her meal, cleaning up her space and dusting off her clothes when she was done. Of course, Alyssa wouldn't go without packing a little to go rations for the trip.
Nodding in agreement to Ramious' last comments, she'd add "Need to get a feel of the land and see where it takes us."
"Well, if all is clear and you are done with your meal, let me show you the target." Sergeant stood up and walked to the door. "You know, I am with you on those damn fairy-tails. Life's too short to waste it on lies no matter how pretty. But that legend... About two moons ago a man came by. A hunter or something, not from working folk. He had with him a broken blade, bearing the smith’s mark we have not seeing around. Damn good blade it was! And the mark is exactly as that legend says Durgeddin the smith was using. The hunter said that he found the blade near the Stone Tooth. Refused to sell, though. So, yea, you find some - bring to us, will pay for the weapons".
After the heavy hot meal the wind did not felt half as bad. Sergeant Grendar pointed straight along the street - also straight as an arrow. "Keep north, do not turn anywhere. Now, see that brushwood raising up there? Look up a bit - that bald rock half the distance to the top? That's the Stone Tooth. Can't miss it. Cant get there fast either. I say three days for you folks, unless you know how to walk the thicket. Well, good luck in there. Be ware of orcs - cunning bastards! Did you get all you need? If not - shops are all over the street."
"Hope to see you again". He shook the hand with everyone, waved one more time, turned around and went back to the house. You were free begin the journey.
Leon shakes his head at the newguy and hopes those really are spirits following him around, as otherwise the guy really needs to take a bath. He follows the half-orc outside and nods as he takes in the distant destination. "Should be an interesting trip." He comments, mostly to himself.
"Decent enough fella," says Ramious as the half orc walks away. Ramious looks to the group. "If anyone needs anything....Bernard...you got everything you need?"
Assuming no one speaks up, Ramious shrugs and starts walking down the street and out of town into the cold winter wastes.

"If I ah, could get a loan for some cold weather gear, that would be great. I can pay you back after the mission or during should we find some gold, other than that I'm okay." He responds. Assuming someone does loan the money to get the gear he will do so.
After that, Bernard says, "I have experience in scouting, shall I move on ahead first? Would you like to set up anytime of signal for trouble?"
(GM mentioned you had enough to buy gear, but if you need more for something, Ramious lends you some.)
Ramious nods, "Uh, sure, ya. I see you got a bow. When I was in the army, our guys would fire up arrows with colored trailers for signals. It makes it hard for the bad guys to figure where you are. Before we leave town, we should get some fabric. Red means lots of bad guys, flee and we'll find each other later. Blue means stop and wait for you to come back to us." He shrugs. "Or whatever. Also maybe Leon's bird can scout up with you as a helper."
"That," Bernard says while thinking, "is interesting. I like it. Truth be told, I've not worked with a group much. Everyone has been put off by the fey except my folks."
Alyssa would raise her brow at Ramious' suggestion. As Bernard stated, it was interesting. "I too am happy to add to the pool for anything if someone needs it." She'd nibble on her lip, wondering if she'd even have enough for what she wanted... "If I can..."

The wilderness began short after the mines closest to the mountains. The group climbed over the hills of soil and rocks, devoid of metal walked for some more up and found itself in the forest. The trees - mix of different type of spruce fighting for survival with aspen and birches - were relatively low (10 - 15 m top) but of course that was more than enough to obscure any view. The underbrush did not make walking any easier. It was so thick, in fact, most of the time the group had to search for some animal paths or shallow brooks only to be able to penetrate that living wall. If not for the flying familiars, direction would be lost in the first half an hour. Orcs, attacking the town, should have know some secret of moving through all of these or were part moose.
From the town the distance to the Stone Tooth did not look all that long, but you soon realize why Sergeant mentioned three days. Slow and sweating the group continued their ascending, taking occasional breaks. The end for that torturing terrain was still miles away when familiars reported approaching sunset - now you could enjoy a night on that hospitable rocks.
"Almost wish we were back in that upsidedown place again." Leon remarks as they finally set up camp. he was in good shape, but this constant travel through woods was not something he was use to. His home did not have such things after all. As they set up camp he would give his familiar a bit of time to rest, knowing he would wish it to help keep watch during the night to come.
Ramious, his breath a fog of mist around him, steam rising from his shoulders, shrugs off his backpack and his outer jacket to let himself cool down. He breathes heavily, his legs burning, but he seems to be...enjoying himself? He nods to the group, "I'll get some wood". He walks around the area of the camp picking up deadfall in his arms. Once he has a load he goes back and uses a crowbar to dig a hole in some dirt. (I presume if there are trees, there is dirt). He carefully sets up the wood in the fire pit. Before lighting it he looks around the forest, "There's a chance our smoke will attract attention....but...we will need the heat. Now for something Cinder taught me before she left..." He stands back and concentrates.....flames seem to come to life in his hands and he motions tentatively towards the fire pit. A blast of fire rips from his fingertips and explodes in the fire pit sending chunks of flaming branches scattering about the camp. "Oh crap!" He quickly smothers the twigs, and manages to keep a few of the ones in the pit burning, slowly adding some wood. His face blushes and he appears flustered as he gets the fire going...."It wasn't supposed to do that..." he mutters as he shakes his head, coaxing the fire to life.
Once done, he goes about setting up his tent, putting his sleeping role and feather stuffed sleeping pouch into the tent. Then he goes out for another load of wood saying, "I can take first watch if you guys want..." as he wanders off.

Not waiting for approval he takes off again. He makes a good circle at least 50 yards around the camp looking for any signs of traffic. In addition he will attempt to make several false trails walking so far out and then carefully retracing his steps backwards.

The night was cold and quite dark - even on that small opening you managed to find for the camp. At this distance you could not smell or hear the mining town down there, and cool crisp mountain air was clean and quiet - almost quiet. The was some rustling in the thicket, occasional squeaking, small very dark spots with two bright sparkles, reflecting the light of the campfire.
Bernard's attempts to scout around or create false trail were not that effective - still, even if he found nothing, he managed to leave an impression of a big animal searching for something in that spot.
It was hard to say whether the smoke form the campfire or the noise of the "animal-Bernard" attracted someone's attention, but both Leon (thanks to his owl) and Alyssa with her raven could swear that they saw something - too silent for an animal, too sneaky for a friendly hunter. Humanoid most likely, and one who could move fast and quietly in these bushes. However, the visitor did not dare to attack - if that was it's intention and eventually disappear in the direction of the Stone Tooth.
At the morning there were no visible tracks from the night visitor, yet, most impressionable among you could not shake the feeling of being watched.
By the noon of the next day you noticed that underbrush become lower, trees more scattered, until you finally came out to the open part of the slope, leading to the foot of the Stone Tooth. It allowed to see your destination with your own eyes, but did not speed up movement much - knee-high bushes covered ground as a thick carpet, hiding holes and boulders alike.
But everything ends eventually. At the evening you did reach the foot of that hill. More importantly, first familiars then you discovered an obviously artificial path, winding up the hillside to some unseen height above. It looks as if was supposed to be concealed, but years of wind and rain have eroded away its cover, leaving the path exposed, though invisible from the valley floor below.
