Felix Windfall (Human-V Lv.7 Rogue) killed in ToA,Vallan Houndstrider (Halfling Ghostwise Lv.1 Fighter) in DiA
Gwen can't help but laugh just a bit more at Fallan's response though it's somewhat hollow. You say that as if you've experienced it firsthand, but outside of spectres that were already out and about, I've never before seen a 'soul' leave a body, unless it was in a song to add some drama to a tale.. Such as the heroes final goodbye to their lover. she said as she took one orc at a time, since she wasn't exactly the strongest person around, but she manages to drag one body at a time. Listening to Fallan continue, Clearly not being quite sure how to answer the followup question.
Gwen manages to get the body to the pile and with some effort, work it onto the pile as Fallan tossed more detritus on it. That's when Fallan asks her second question, and Gwens face shifts from a semi-happy-neutral to a slight frown as she turns her head to look away, so as to not be seen. Y-yeah, they are. I've.. never understood why it's only my people who... she trails off as she puts the second body on the pile. A weak-willed sigh escapes Gwens lips before she stands up to go grab the next one. Though her pace seems to have slowed a bit. There are only a few more bodies left along the trail, so one way or another, the task won't take too much longer.
At Root's comment on her prowess in battle, Bell flexes her arm muscles in a cheeky display. While not particularly beefy, her arms are toned, and speak more of agility than strength. Bell lowers her arms, and then as Root finishes speaking, steps forwards. "I am curious what exactly you mean by 'mark.' Can you see something on us that we can't?" she asks Rose. "Or is it more of a spiritual sense that you are referencing?"
Rose face palms and says Right right, I often forget none of you see it. Its an aura. You two and your friend were practically glowing. Just means Selûne has chosen you as part of her plan, and that she wants me to help you. I don't know what that plan is, all I know is I stick around until it's complete. After that I usually move on to wherever Selûne takes me. I had been working my way east until I came here what feels like a lifetime ago. Got caught up in some things that took us away. Got back a few days ago to find the town being destroyed and well, you can guess the rest. Either way my previous group no longer has the aura. It seems you three are the next step in whatever plan Selûne has so I'm afraid your stuck with me. Rose gives a smile and a wink before starting to head back up.
Well you folk get comfortable and head up when you're ready. The people will be back by morning, once they get here the rest of the cleaning and rebuilding will be on them. I'm going to give the others a hand.
Root will take his pack off and leave it in a comfortable corner of the cellar. Following Rose root will ask her about the stable. “Rose? Is there a useable stable for Dorthy? My horse is a draft horse but with the extra weight of Bell and Fallan I believe she is quite tired. If possible I’ll hitch her to the side of this inn if there are no stables.” Heading back out of the cellar Root will start helping where he can, cleaning up debris and anything else they might need help with.

Felix Windfall (Human-V Lv.7 Rogue) killed in ToA,Vallan Houndstrider (Halfling Ghostwise Lv.1 Fighter) in DiA
"Don't think I've heard of this 'Saloon' lady, but I guess her plan is better than no plan, so..." Bell takes a swig from her jug. "... I'm game. Also, thank you for your hospitality, especially in these conditions." Bellerain doffs her pack and heads up with the others to begin helping out.
Fallan continues to drag wood, branches, or anything that seems combustible to the growing pile of detritus and orc corpses. To Gwen, she displays an almost sudden change of demeanor, no longer nervous, but calm and focused. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to bring up depressing thoughts. There are enough things in this world that we don't understand that can pull us down. But I have found that the comfort of camaraderie and having folks surround you upon which you can count to protect and care for you make taking yet another step and moving forward for yet another day worth the effort." Carefully so as not to startle Gwen, the short halfling reaches up to pat her arm as best she can to impart honest sympathy to her newfound friend.
"Well, do you think this is enough to start the fire?"
Rose thinks on Roots request and shrugs. Honestly I don't know. We never made use of a stable, and if there was one here I'm not sure its still standing. Rose then turns her attention to Bell and gives her a curious look. You haven't? Selûne, Our Lady of Silver, The Moon Maiden, and countless other titles. She's only like, the absolute best! I'd love to tell you more about her if you have a few spare weeks! And trust me she is very wise, her plans are in the best interest of all goodly folk. One of her godly duties is to protect questers, that's where I come in, but there's lots of other things shenprotrcts as well. Rose continues to prattle on about her Goddess unless stopped, the halfling clearly excited to find someone who doesn't know anything about her to preach to.
Gwen was still moving when Fallan responded, albeit a bit slower, as Gwen mentally withdrew, ever so slightly while pulling one of the last four bodies down the trail. You didn't. It just made me think about a possibility I don't... enjoy entertaining. Yeah, they do. she said, while thinking of a certain Halfling, her smile returned though she still felt she needed to correct or atleast smooth out the misunderstanding. It sort of comes with the territory of being a bard. You can't really invoke emotions in others if you have none yourself. So people with histories like mine tend to succeed where others fail. You had no idea, and you were in your own mind it seemed at the time. So I don't blame you. Sometimes curiosity happens, and I know your question wasn't asked with any intent. So don't ever let it bother you. I'll even tell you my worry; My parents died, horrible deaths. So.. I sometimes wonder if that was enough to turn them, so I think to myself "What if I run into them as some apparition" will they remember me? Will I be forced to kill them? Those sort of thoughts. Even as she spoke, it seemed the others were heading topside to help, though most of the work had been done, since only three bodies remained.
Though she was more than willing to let them handle it. Yeah, that should be enough.. bodies tends to burn easily enough, especially when their kindling has already been burnt once.
As Bell makes their way up, as well as Root soon after, Rose quickly finds that she may need to follow as well else she may find herself talking to herself. Root however, once he makes his way up, hears some odd, out of place noises among the debris a ways to the south-east, just barely audible over the dragging of bodies and placing of clumps of burnable wood, like something bumping into something without having intended to, though if he attempts to look in that direction, nothing is seen.

At Root's whistle- its particular tone and meaning already known to Bell -the Satyr whirls with a flourish of motion, shield and sword poised to engage, but she hesitates before advancing. "You sure it's hostile? Could be a survivor in the rubble..." As she voices that thought, Bell stows her rapier and approaches the rubble in the direction Root indicated carefully, ready to dart away if threatened. "... Hello?" As she goes, she steps wide of Root's line of sight, so he could unleash his flames without threat of striking her.
The world went deathly silent, to the point that heartbeats could be heard in ears if one didn't move as the two approached the noise that Root had heard. The dragonborn continuing to look around for any signs of some unseen enemy. And none is immediately forthcoming. As the visible lines in the dragonborns mouth began to glow through his teeth, a distinct sulfurous smell wafted around the area. As Root approached roughly where he thought he had heard the noise, a halfling jumps out from nearby, but not quite where Root had thought the noise had came from, making himself obvious, and plain as day to be seen. H-h-hold it! Right there, don't attack W-, I mean no harm to you! Whoever you are. Please don't hurt me... If you're looters or scavengers come to pick apart the town.. Just... leave m-me be!
Hearing the commotion Rose stopped mid sentence to draw Kneecapper before following Root. She was sure there were no more Orcs alive in the area, perhaps the sound had been from a looter or scavenger animal. Regardless she was sure whatever it was could be easily scared off and no real fight would be needed. When the halfling made himself known Rose sighed and put away the hammer. Mr. Alderleaf you had us worried for a moment. Are you okay? Why are you here already? I thought everyone fled to Neverwinter. And where's Carp? Rose would approach Mr. Alderleaf and check him for any obvious wounds, making sure to heal those up quickly. (Cure wounds if needed)
Root seeing Rose step in laughs loudly “I almost roasted you. What was it again Alderleaf? My apologies if I scared you can’t be to careful. Especially after what happened to the town.” Root bows as an apology then turns to Rose “Is this one of the towns people that survived?”
The halfling swallows hard, considering both the size and appearance of the dragonborn, his eyes are glued to the semi-dragons lips, where he very much expected fire to erupt from any moment. It took another few moments for the Alderleafer to realize someone else was speaking to him, but when his eyes fell on Rose, he collapsed to his hands and knee's falling all of two inches, as relief washed over him. He sucked in a breath from that kneeling position before responding slowly. Y-yes, I'm fine... No injuries, except to my pride, if you can heal that then you truly are a miracle worker. As for everyone else, I have no idea, I didn't know they had left.... My son and I fled to the cave he said the 'bad people' had hid in, the Redbrands. So we tucked ourselves away in there for a few days and after it had gone quiet, we waited a while longer before ... coming out to inspect what was left.
The halfling farmer looked around him, as if finally taking in the destruction around him that the tension before hadn't allowed him to. His shoulders slumped, but he still stood up then, eyes closed as he exhaled heavily, with gravitas. When the fighting.. started, Carp came running, and said he knew where we could hide that they wouldn't find us. I just hope everyone else made it out OK.... Though... if those mounds are any indicator...
I will pause momentarily to let Xjoe/Marj catch up
It took a moment, but the halfling jumped as if it had been in a stupor Ah, he's hiding back at the farm, since.. it seems to not have been touched. I didn't want to risk bringing him in case.... Sorry, a lot has happened, and my minds muddled.

Bell cocks her head to the side. The halfling looks at Bell with utter disbelief as his jaw drops, his demeanor changing from frightened to offended in the span of several short moments. Y... Y... You cannot possibly be serious? Are you saying it would be better to drag him out where a band of orcs may still be maurading so he can be the hour de vour's to their midday snack?! Or should I get myself caught like I apparently did make it that much easier to catch us both instead?! I'll have you know... he says moving forward, with index at full mast, while the rest of his fingers were balled up, pointing at the satyr even as he stomped forward with all the fury of a Tressym Not everyone is an adventurer! Not everyone can fight off three ogres at once! I did what I thought was best in the moment when the orcs attacked and had us hide! But we couldn't stay there forever I can only carry so much in these tiny arms, not all of us are as blessed to be as tall as a human!
The little mans face was as red as the beets he grew. But having us both together just meant we were twice as likely to be discovered AND at the same time I'll have you know! I didn't want to leave my son there, and perhaps you're right, but perhaps you're wrong! But you weren't here when the orcs attacked! So! what right do you have to judge me! The only thing Bell is able to tell is that the halfling is furious, she can't quite tell anything else. And if they haven't touched my farm in two days, its the safest place I can think of short of leaving him in the cave, but he wouldn't take no for an answer! the halflings lip was quivering at this point, and it was clear he was holding back tears.
