'Sounds like it's settled then.' Friedrych said, accentuating the remark with a single clap of his hands. The others seemed like a motley crew but who knows. And company on the road is always appreciated. 'Do we leave immediately or in the morning?'
You've spent the last few days following the High Road south from Neverwinter, and you've just recently veered east along the Triboar Trail. You've encountered no trouble so far, but this territory can be dangerous. Bandits and outlaws have been known to lurk along the trail.
You've been on the Triboar Trail for about half a day. As you come around a bend, you spot two dead horses sprawled about fifty feet ahead of you, blocking the path. Each has several black-feathered arrows sticking out of it. The woods press close to the trail here, with a steep embankment and dense thickets on either side.
Zalyver stands up on top of the cart, "Whoa there. Might want ta slow down. That doesn't look good ahead," he peers into the distance to see if he can make out any enemies (perception: 9). After looking to see if he can make out any enemies in an ambush, he says to the others, "I'll check it out. If anyone wants ta join me search, you're welcome, but stay quiet an' stay low." With that he jumps off the cart and disappears along the tree-line, moving slowly and quietly towards the fallen horses (stealth: 9).
Dagnal gets up from where she was sitting in the back of the cart. Standing she looks at the fallen horses. "I agree that doesn't look good." She jumps down out of the cart, circling upfront towards the oxen but goes no further. She as well keeps a lookout for the owner of the arrows.

Having spent most of the ride quietly enjoying the view, Friedrych snapped to attention at the sight of the dead horses on the road. He silently watched the others move towards the cadavers but he remained seated on the cart to have a better view of the surroundings.
As the cart rolls to a halt everyone is going in high alert and something looks amiss. Zalyver jumps off and moves into the thickets on the side of the road. Rune and Onak are just a few feet ahead of Dagnal in front of the Oxens where Dagnal stays close to. Friedrych stays on the cart, overlooking everyone and everything. Even though they are hard see, Goblins lie in ambush on either side of the dead horses. You spotted them but they know you are coming!
OOC - Although everyone's active perception was low, your passive perception is high enough to notice goblins on both sides of the road in the thickets waiting in Ambush. Rune, you are hidden from the Goblins for now.
The cart has stopped about 50 feet from the dead horses, the goblins are at the same distance from the cart in the thickets on either side. Dagnal is about 40 feet away from the horses and let's say Rune, Ornak en and Zalyver are 30 feet away from the horses/goblins. Friedrych, you are on the cart.
No one is surprised, you all notice the Goblins and they notice you!

From his vantage point up on the cart, Friedrych spotted several warty little critters creeping through the thickets. 'Time to see what these newfound powers of mine are capable of.' He thought to himself as he mentally prepared himself for the upcoming fight.
Friedrych stood up to get a better look at the goblins encroaching on the group. Focusing on the one closest to him, he imagined himself lobbing enormous balls of fire at it, waved his hands about and... nothing. No fire appeared: no ball of flaming death, not even a tiny flame the size of a candle light. It then occured to him that he had never actually practised or experimented with his magic since he got it. Not in combat anyway.
'Oh well, problems for later.' Friedrych mumbled as he pulled out the old reliable crossbow to shoot a bolt at the goblin.

How do you resolve ties in initiative? Because Dagnal and Friedrych both rolled a 12. The one with the highest DEX goes first?

"Ah goblins, of course! Never can go anywhere nice without a couple of goblins ruining your day." Turning to the goblin on the right side of the road, Dagnal will softly speak an incantation as she throws her hand towards it, casting Fire Bolt:13

Inititave is rolled, Onak you are up!
Onak lets out a war cry, charge at the goblin closest to him, raise his great axe and swing.
attack: 10 damage: 4
Onak, you charge to the left side of the road. Your swing misses the Goblin now standing next to you. Fear grows in his eyes...

Friedrych your crossbow bolt shoots to the right side of the road and the bolt connects to the Goblin, dropping it in a heartbeat.
- I didn't look at it this time, will do next time!
- On the left side of the road still two Goblins standing, on the right side just one!
