The festivities continue long into the night, but eventually die down to a low roar as the Phandalin villagers go to bed excited to move back into their real homes.
Nimue lays in her chambers and closes her eyes. Suddenly, she sees a vision of the little girl she encountered throughout her time on the Sword Coast. This causes her to wake in a startled state.
While the villagers of Phandalin pack their things in preparation to move back to their town, the adventurers head in beforehand. Upon arriving, they make their way to the Shrine of Luck. There, the little girl is seen waiting in the field.
"Hello, Jorna." she says, looking up at Nimue. "Did you bring me any trinkets to play with?"
Nimue pulls out some miscellaneous trinkets from the dwarven excavation and hands then to the little girl. She then summons her spectral horse and says to the girl "Want a ride?"
The pale faced girl accepts Nimue's offer to ride the skeletal warhorse. She seems to enjoy herself, displaying a muted smile.
She then looks at the few trinkets that Nimue has acquired throughout her journey.
"Is this it?" the girl asks, after looking down at the items for awhile. Turning her head up to look at Nimue and the party, her face and body suddenly transform into a horrifying banshee!
The banshee lets out a screeching wail, which brings on an aura of death around the shrine.
Wail (1/Day). The banshee releases a mournful wail, provided that she isn’t in sunlight. This wail has no effect on constructs and undead. All other creatures within 30 feet of her that can hear her must make a DC 13 Constitution saving throw. On a failure, a creature drops to 0 hit points. On a success, a creature takes 10 (3d6) psychic damage.
Leovold slashes into the banshee with the dragon slaying sword for 36 damage!
Attack: 22 Damage: 13
The banshee pushes at Leovold with a deathly touch for 13 damage. Her face becomes ever more frightening.
Horrifying Visage. Each non-undead creature within 60 feet of the banshee that can see her must succeed on a DC 13 Wisdom saving throw or be frightened for 1 minute. A frightened target can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, with disadvantage if the banshee is within line of sight, ending the effect on itself on a success. If a target’s saving throw is successful or the effect ends for it, the target is immune to the banshee’s Horrifying Visage for the next 24 hours.
Leovold growls through his gritted teeth at the pain of the necrotic touch getting a second wind.
Healing: 13
He open his mouth and roars back at the banshees horrific visage. " I know the face of a monster, you will not scare me!" He actions surges and unleashes incarnation twice, unleashing a flurry of strikes with his echo.
Dusty lets off a huge heal, reviving Krash from his position on the dirt floor.
Leovold continues his assault on the banshee, dealing 83 damage for a total of 119 damage. It shrieks in pain, immediately running into Nimue's darkness before dissipating.
Nimue sees the little girl return for a moment with more life in her eyes and skin tone. She carries an innocent childlike smile that briefly reminds the warlock of her own childhood. The child runs towards Nimue, but transforms into a flock of ravens that flies off in multiple directions. Left on the floor is:
Staff of Birdcalls Staff, common This wooden staff is decorated with bird carvings. It has 10 charges. While holding it, you can use an action to expend 1 charge from the staff and cause it to create one of the following sounds out to a range of 60 feet: a finch’s chirp, a raven’s caw, a duck’s quack, a chicken’s cluck, a goose’s honk, a loon’s call, a turkey’s gobble, a seagull’s cry, an owl’s hoot, or an eagle’s shriek.
The staff regains 1d6 + 4 expended charges daily at dawn. If you expend the last charge, roll a d20. On a 1, the staff explodes in a harmless cloud of bird feathers and is lost forever.
The party rests for the remainder of the day as the citizens of Phandalin start to funnel back into the village. Throughout the following days, buildings are repaired and the shops reopen to their former state.
Leovold's Leonin tribe moves into the fortress Axeholm. Word of this reaches Neverwinter as the knight gains more reputation.
Word of Krash "Dragon Slayer" Zhan-gin makes its way back to the mountain, his fellow Goliath showing a newfound respect.
Dusty gains deeper access in the network of Tempus knights due to his new position in the ranks.
Nimue continues to search for gifts for the Raven Queen, and senses that she has started to gain some of her favor.
Don-Jon is found in the Woodland Manse, fighting off remaining orcs who still refuse to return to the mountain. He is relieved to hear that Cryovain has been defeated.
The end.
