"That is wise. I can't say whether Mezro is the cause of this, but it's as good a place to start as any, if you're focused on the undead. As for these 'self-righteous' paladins, well let's just say that Camp Righteous was destroyed and they erected Camp Vengeance in its stead. That being a location of interest, I have somewhat of a side quest. This wizard in his journal makes plentiful references to his travel companion, a construct of his own making he named Vorn. I believe the construct is still in Yellyark, though deactivated. I will pay you in a spellbook if you manage to find it on your journey."
Harbor:
Zindall gives Tulock a leveled an humorless look. "You wouldn't joke having had it yourself. All I can say is beware the blue mists my friend. I'd be happy to send word to Marchant Prince Jobal; he oversees and registers all guides here. If you've some time to wait I can send word to him immediately and have him set up an introduction. Meanwhile, I'd be happy to spread word and coin on my dock rounds, I've more than one type of gold that might convince people to join you."He winks, and the sun glints off his scales.
Tulock nods at Zindall. "Many thanks," he says. "I think I'll take you up on your proposition and wait here. I'd like to get these guides squared away as soon as possible." and then shakes the Harbormaster's hand. "Can you recommend me a tavern here by the port where I can relieve my dry throat and relax these poor dogs," and he points down at his booted feet, "while I wait on your call?"
Zaza stares at the man and thinks "well I could use a warmup for the battles to come, and what better way to grease these bones than against these dinos. It also probably wouldn't hurt to get one of these locals indebted to me...very well" "Alright my good man. Your words have moved me to my core. I shall be your husband's savior for today. Now, as much as I'd love to go through the slow bureaucracy of your towns system of government, is there any quicker way for me to... appeal his sentence?" He says while cocking an eyebrow and soundlessly pounding his fist and palm together.
Dughening says to Otamu, "One more question, though it may be inconsequential. When we arrived, we saw a large statue of a warrior king of Chult. I understand it was constructed in the last decade. What do you know of this warrior king, and is it possible that he may be connected in some way with the death curse? Or do you know of any others in the area who might provide us information before we rush off blindly?"
"Yes! Thank you! Bless you!" the man cries to Zaza in response. "If you're feeling bold you could try to prevent his being thrown in, but otherwise do anything from the sidelines to ensure his safe passage. We don't have much but we'll repay you however we can!"
Otamu chuckles. "I sincerely doubt it, though I respect your nature of overturning all stones. No, it is simply a statue of Chultan pride; we weren't always the independent bastion of commerce you see now, and when we emerged as such it's only natural a display of culture was erected. We call him Na N'buso, The Great King. In truth not enough records of our past remain to put a real name to his likeness."
For reference, page 1 of the thread contains the partial map Sylvane gave you. Camps Vengeance and Righteous and Mezro are visible on it, Yellyark is the narrow strip of forest North-Northwest of the Camps, and the Aldani Basin Otamu knows to be a short distance due south from the camps.
OOC: After we get some guides and hirelings, I suggest we head to Camp Vengeance, possibly stopping at Camp Righteous along the way. Mezro can wait in my opinion.
((Also FYI, Port Nyanzaru is designed to take as little or as much time as PCs desire. Let me know if at any point you want to slow down or fast-track))
Zaza, the way I see it, you could intercede before the man is thrown in, in which case I'll call for some sort of skill contest with the guards, or manipulate the outcome of the Run, in which case there will be a series of basic skill challenges. All specifics depending on your choice of action of course.

Tulock, Harbormaster Zindall points you to a small tavern closer towards the Merchants Ward, and you stop in for a drink. As it stands, I'd say Dughening and Jorvik's meeting with Otamu is wrapping up around the same time that Tulock's wait for Jobal is ending, giving you three an opportunity to reunite on the streets in the Merchant's Ward and catch each other up to speed.
Jorvik, nods in response to Otamu's further explanation. After a moment or two, he looks over at Dughening and asks "Are you ready to meet up with the rest of our crew? I figure at this point we have a decent lay of where we might want to start looking. Besides, that spell book isn't getting any younger!" Chuckling slightly he looks back at Otamu and follows-up "Thanks for this information! Anything else that might be of note before we begin crawling through the jungle?
Zaza asks the man his name and to point out/ describe his husband. He then looks around for some guards and heads over to any that are reachable. Tapping into his heart of darkness, he emanates through his movements and his eyes the terror and horror he has been through his entire un-life. "GUARDS, please ... hear my plea!" he manages to wheeze out as he limps towards them. "As you may be able to tell, I have been unfortunately afflicted with the DEATH CURSE. I have lived my life as a warrior and it is this damned thing that will be the end of me. I beg of you to let me take agency in how I am to end it all. Allow me to participate in the RUN. I would like to die as I lived, fighting till my last breath. Surely you honorable guards can understand such a request? I may be on deaths door, but I promise I can give your audience a good show. I am not certain how long I have left either so please I implore you to find a way for me to enter into the current RUN."
Dughening nods to Jorvik. "I think we have learned all we will from this man of mirth. Let us go to meet our friends." Then, to Otamu, "Thank you for your hospitality and what knowledge you have deigned to share with us."
"I would recommend stocking up and making sure you have everything you need to feed yourselves, collect and purify water, and stave off any ailments. I would also recommend buying a canoe; it will make travelling much easier. If you want more lore I would talk to Father Zitembe at the Temple of Savras. Aside from that, any interest in any of my wares?"Otamu cracks a sly grin. ((Otamu has all common and uncommon potions, 50GP for common and 100GP for uncommon. He also has 1st level spell scrolls for sale for 100GP each. Let me know when you guys leave to meet up, and for the purposes of equipping yourselves, Port Nyanzaru has all weapons, armor, and adventuring gear, plus the following items: Canoes (50GP, holds 6 people), Insect Repellant (Block of incense, 1SP, 8hr burning duration or Salve, 1GP, 24hr duration, 20 uses), Rain Catchers (5GP 1lb, catches 2 gallons of water per inch of rainfall, 8 gallon cap.) and Ylkwas (Chultan weapon, 1GP, 1d8 piercing & thrown (10/30 ft). The choice whether to role play shopping is yours.))
"My name is Belym; my husband is Draza. He's there, with the wonderful *sob* mustache." Upon Zaza's approach and declarations, the guards holding the four condemned shrink back with fear. "Wh-whatever you say, yes! Go ahead, if ye be that black damned!"The four of you are dumped into Executioner's Run, the four captives giving you looks of weary despair, surprise, grit, and in Draza's case, intrigue. The pair of wickedly agile Dinos begin to close in, and immediately two of the men bull-rush forward, catching the attention of one.

Zaza stands a little more straighter and with a little more life but maintains his deathly gaze. "Draza? Zaza. Belym sends his regards," he says with a slight nod. And just as the two men rush forward, Zaza assumes a stoic fighting stance calling out to the Draza and the other prisoner. "Let's face it friends, you were never going to make it out of this one alive and all those bloodthirsty monsters in the stands want to see are your bodies ripped to shreds one by one as you try to outrun death itself. Your only chance at freedom is to stand and fight TOGETHER. If we can single out and flank those beasts we just might make it through this with most of our limbs intact." Zaza starts to carefully and defensively inch his way towards the closer Dino and as he does so he does a series of breathing exercises he learned years ago from a monk that used a strange fighting style requiring him to be drunk. After a few deep inhales and stomach convulsions he begins to regurgitate some of the excellent wine Silvane had offered earlier. Just as good comin up as it did goin in. The alcohol vaporized almost immediately as it hit his tongue leaving a mulled kick sensation as he casts false life. 8
Awesome. The men seem bolstered with resolve, and Draza looks beyond relieved. Let me get a charisma or persuasion check. One of the beasts closes in on you, taking a snap at you with its jaws and following up with a wicked slash.

Zaza, both of the Dino's attacks connect, but you feel no pain as your necromantic booze powers tank the brunt of the blow leaving you practically unharmed. Draza and the others have a full opening to run forward safely, and it's your turn to take an action.
As Tulock, Dughening, and Jorvik congregate in the market ward, a young woman approaches them. She is dressed simply in robes of blue, a glass eye hanging around her neck. "Pardon me, I'd heard on the wandering-vine a party of newcomers had arrived, intent on exploring the jungle." She gives you a measured look with a hint of desperation. "I'd assume that would be you three?"

Zaza, both the dino's legs crumple underneath it as your attacks connect with aplomb, leaving Draza free to keep running, and you to retreat safely. You hear the din of the crowd going wild; you're not sure if it's the adrenaline, or if they're genuinely that much more enthusiastic at seeing the direct confrontation. By the time the dino gets up Draza has dashed a full 60 feet down the run, and you have enough space do follow suit.
Zaza does not have the flash or flourish that most monks have due to his slower speed. However, he excels at swift and pin point attacks relying more on timing and manipulation of his surroundings than physical feats of strength. With that he connects his two attacks and takes advantage of the opening it provides to about face and retreat. keeping a safe distance from the other Dino who is hopefully distracted with the other two prisoners he waves ahead at Draza to GO GO GO pointing at the safe zone, pulling up the rear as best as he can as he dashes up as well.
Tulock stops by one of the taverns along The Merchant Ward and orders himself a light ale to sip and fried cod to munch while he takes in the scene. He wonders about how his new comrades in arms are holding up with their own tasks. He trusts Zindall the Harbormaster to hold up his end of the bargain. While standing at the bar with a good view of people passing by he keeps an eye out for any young street urchins and if he sees one that gives off that look that he or she is looking for work he motions them to come over.
When the boy comes over Tulock looks down at him and gives the boy a warm smile like an uncle would give a nephew and then Tulock lowers himself down to level his eyes with the urchin's and says, "you look like a lad with a lot of fire in him. A survivor. What's your name," and after they introduce one another, Tulock giving a fake name to the urchin, he then continues and says, "An orphan for long? No, you have the eyes and manners of someone who had a mother he knew. I can tell such things. I've come across a lot of boys like you after a battle. Both parents dead, wondering what will come of you and who'll take care of you. But you, you have that survivor instinct. I can tell. So listen closely cause I'll only say this once," and once he knows the urchin is listening to what he has to say Tulock will then flash a gold piece and say, "this will be yours and more, but first you must do me this favor. Use your ability to hide amongst the masses and listen to any rumors you might hear, especially about an item called the Soulmonger. Also, any rumors about others who might in search of said item. And if you want to ensure that empty belly of yours keeps full you'll share any other bits of information you may hear. Do this job well, lad, and maybe I can help get you off these streets. Now run along, and be a discreet boy. I'll play dumb to any shenanigans you try to bring up against me and, don't forget, who'll belive a beggar child over a man with a pedigree like me." Tulock finishes before placing the gold coin back in his pouch and handing the boy two silver coins to show good faith After the urchin has run along Tulock will continue drinking until he sees his companions walk by or something of interest catches his attention.
