Since Gerard hasn't been on the site in the last 9 days, I guess I'll be playing him for now.
Gerard Initiative: 21
Giant Toad Initiative: 10
(Gerard reacts quickly, taking out his sword and taking a big swing at the Toad!)
Attack: 15 Damage: 11
(The Toad does not react fast enough, and Gerard buries his sword deep in its body! Green blood starts spurting out as a huge wound is revealed when Gerard pulls back his sword. The Toad is screeching in pain!)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
So I presume I'm sort of floating along with the current along side the raft, or maybe with a hand on it - I'll give you two options and let me know which is canon:
Opt 1: I can't cast while trying to keep ahold of the raft, and I just try to climb up on it again.
Nikta mumbles a string of obscenities as he bemoans his inability to get a good grip, being wet, and the circumstance in general as he attempts to re-board: 15
Opt 2: With one hand gripping the raft tightly, Nikta brings his other out of the water and sends off an Eldritch Blast at the toad, while also muttering obscenities as he bemoans his inability to get a good grip, being wet, and the circumstance in general: Attack: 24 Damage: 8
And I'll be the kid asking the teacher about homework: If I were DMing, I'd give Nikta disadvantage if I let him cast at all, so here's the second attack roll for that, just in case: 11
OOC: please please please let me cast! Those are some of the only decent rolls I've had in this game :)
(Nikta, barely holding on to the raft, raises his other hand out of the water and hurls his Eldritch Blast at the Giant Toad, blasting it for a huge chunk of damage! The Toad is now very badly hurt and looking like it's on it's last legs. However, the concentration it to cast that Cantrip causes Nikta to lose his grip on the raft, which floats faster than he can move. He's now 20 feet away from the raft. It will be more difficult for him to make his way back onto it.)
DMs note: The DC for climbing on the raft is now 13. ;)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
(Carxus casts Firebolt and nails the Giant Toad square, knocking it back and hurting it very badly. The Toad is on it's last legs...)
(Gerard goes to attack it again as it's still reeling...)
Attack: 9 Damage: 5
(It's another huge hit, and the Giant Toad keels over, dead. Nikta is still far away from the raft and needs to make it on before the current separates them more...)
Nikta, I need another Dex Save. If someone wants to assist him, he'll have advantage.
Struggling through the water, not exactly a terribly strong swimmer, Nikta finally grabs on to the spear and hoists himself up onboard like a miserable wet cat. Huffing and puffing, "I knew it. I knew perfectly well I'd end up in that shit. Thank you, Lena. God knows how long it would have taken me to get aboard without that help..."
then,
"...are we there yet?" as he begins wringing out his cloak and scarf, turning his back on the rest of you as he removes it and tends to his damp gear. "Damn. I was hoping to get some entertainment out of this goblin stink-bomb. Probably useless now."

Jacob Bray - The Call of Lon-Dia, Human Bloodhunter 3
(Lena helps Nikta back up onto the raft. Everyone tries to get things back to normal on the raft. The Toad fell into the water when it died, but there's still a bunch of Toad blood to clean up. Nikta dries himself as best he can. You all continue on your way, and by a little past midday, you all see a large castle on the horizon.)
"That's Lord Joffrey's castle. There should be a dock around here we can tie up to."
(Jacob is correct, and you all soon find the dock. After parking and stowing your boat, you make your way up to the fortress itself, which is basically a small town. You arrive at the castle gate and request an audience. You're in luck, and you only have to wait about a half hour before you are summoned in front of Lord Joffrey. You are announced by the steward and walk up to Lord Joffrey. He is an older man, well groomed, with a pointy beard and gray hair.)
"My lord. We humbly thank you for meeting with us. I come to seek justice in the name of my family. Hear me, I beg you."
(Jacob starts telling Lord Joffrey the tale of his family's woes. He produces the Deed, which the steward brings to Lord Joffrey. He looks it over for a moment, then whispers in his steward's ear. The steward goes off with the deed for a few minutes, comes back and whispers to his Lord.)
"I believe you have a legitimate claim. Frankly, I've never liked Tapwell. Always trying to butter me up. Makes a damn good cider, though. Ahem... anyways, I must speak to Tapwell to get his side of the story, however. We will send a detachment of soldiers with you to bring him back here to Wolfsburg to face trial and retribution, if necessary. Sergeant Von Erich will lead you all back to Hogsbottom. Be warned, however: She does not like Adventurers one bit."
(Lord Joffrey motions that the audience has concluded.)
DM's note: Sorry, trying to fast forward thru some of the stuff I thought might be boring/difficult to RP. If anyone wants to add anything here, go ahead. Otherwise, you'll be ushered towards Sergeant Von Erich and head back to town with a few soldiers.
(You all come out of the audience with Lord Joffrey, satisfied that you are to receive justice. Jacob looks very happy, then looks around. His face suddenly drops as he realizes...)
"WHERE'S TAPWELL?!"
(The party now realizes young Tapwell is missing! He seems to have slipped away while you all were busy with the audience. You all go to the courtyard and ask some of the people around if they saw someone matching his description. Very quickly, you find out from the local stable boy what has happened.)
"Yes, I saw him. Just sold him my fastest horse, Nelly. Didn't even haggle, just paid what I asked. Damn, I should have asked for more gold... huh? Oh, he rode off fast as he could towards Hogsbottom. About 20 minutes ago, I'd reckon. Nelly was my best horse, so I don't think you all could catch him now."
"If we're going back to grab the elder Tapwell with a contingent of the crown's men, do we care? Let's confer with Sergeant Von Erich and head back with her, unless I'm misunderstanding something. Or one or a few of us could take some other healthy horses and maybe arrive slightly behind the sniveling idiot, but still before they'd be able to mobilize anything worth fretting about. At least while we have the crown's men coming shortly behind us. Right?" realizing of course that he may very well be misunderstanding something.
OOC: I love the twists!

Jacob Bray - The Call of Lon-Dia, Human Bloodhunter 3
"Oh dear, I'm worried they might try to leave town before we get there or worse they could harm the house or orchid. I would like to leave as quickly as possible if only to prevent any of that from happening."
"Agreed - given that the Sargent is ill disposed to adventurers to begin with, and presuming they're heading that way with Jacob behind us anyway, maybe we just make ourselves scarce and head after Tapwell quickly. Try to minimize the damage..."

"Looking to defy your Lord while asking for a favor? Typical adventurers..."
(A tall, armored woman with short, blonde hair (think Brienne of Tarth) walks up from behind you all, scoffing. She's obviously overheard your plans and is not pleased at all.)
"Always rushing in. No discipline..."
"The horses are ready, Sergeant."
(Another soldier has appeared, salutes Sergeant Von Erich, and scurries away after being dismissed.)
"Come along, ingrates. It's time for a REAL soldier to show you how it's done."
(She motions for you all to follow. You all get to a different stable, where 2 soldiers, a red bearded Dwarf and a shorter, female Dwarf, stand. 9 horses are at the ready.)
"Idris. Kairi. Leave the weakest horse. It seems we only need 8."
(Sgt Von Erich turns to you all.)
"Don't ride them too hard, or you'll have to answer to me. Keep at my pace, we'll be back in Hogsbottom soon, I assure you."
(The two Dwarves and the Sergeant mount up and ride to just outside the gate, waiting for you all to join them.)
"Son of a!" *splash*
