It's pretty hilarious that the only way to access the base Shade species is to create it yourself in D&D Beyond's homebrew section, choose the Shade template, and then immediately hit save. To make it even funnier, D&D Beyond then tells you that you can't share it with the community because the Shade species already exists (which it does, but isn't accessible to anyone).
Would it not be possible for D&D Beyond themselves to literally do this themselves and make it accessible for everyone who owns The Book of Ebon Tides (considering those users are entitled to the class, at least through homebrew)?

The site doesn't support taking traits from previous species, as Dhampir, Hexblood & Reborn proved.
Do you really think it'd support that trait for base Shade, or any other 3rd-party species?
(Mind you, this is from a coding perspective.)

No, I don't expect that, but I do expect that the listed class would be available to be added to your sheet all the same. Not everything needs to be automated on the sheet (though it should be, ideally), but it is far more irritating to:
add a sub-species that you aren't intending to play and then have to explain to the DM that you aren't using two of the abilities because you're actually meaning to play the base version that has two different abilities that aren't listed on your sheet
than it is to
add a species to your sheet that isn't fully automated, and then override your movement speed
What the abilities actually do between the base species and the sub-species is irrelevant-- the species is technically on the site, but not available to those who purchased the book it says it's available within when navigating the Species section of the site.
In short:
I saw the Shade species on the Species page
I click into the Shade section and it lists the abilities of the base Shade species, and a variant sub-class with different abilities
I buy the book listed against the species on that page
Buying the book doesn't allow me to add the base species to my character sheet
There's no way this makes sense. You can say "well the base Shade species is actually in a different Kobold Press book, Tome of Heroes, that isn't on D&D Beyond" (despite what the staff said at the start of this thread), but how do I know that's the case when looking at a Species section on D&DB that says "this base species is from The Book of Ebon Tides" and then it actually isn't?
Like, imagine if you bought Van Richten's Guide to Ravenloft because you liked the Lineages listed on the Species page, and then it turned out Dhampir was actually only available in Curse of Strahd or something and you couldn't add it to your sheet without going to D&DB's homebrew section to create the species yourself.
Edit: I will admit that there is a single line at the end of the sub-species description that says:
Stygian shades are a subrace of shades. You can find more about the base shade race in Tome of Heroes.
But this is after an entire section about the base Shade species that explains everything you need to know about the base Shade, including all of their abilities. It doesn't give the impression at all that it won't also be included with the book. It doesn't say "by the way, the base shade isn't included here, but you'll sort of be able to access it by making your own homebrew" because no other species on the site works that way if it has the whole description and abilities listed (apart from other species/sub-species in this book, apparently).
