Brutal raiders from beyond civilisation. They murder and butcher and eat the settled people. They represent an existential threat to civilisation. They aren't friendly, cuddly orcs. They will skin you and wear your skin as a prize.

Field Marshal Joachim Murat?
I was going more for 'random dude from the 1800s'

I guess that's what we call an internal coherence. Besides, if one isn't going to do something in one's own style, why bother doing it at all? In the end, Canned creativity isn't exactly a thing.
300 years ago all greenskins primarily lived in great grassy plains in the south of my continent, prosperous living off the land, relatively peaceful they got there aggression out in tests of strength rather then warfare or mindless violence. They treated each other as equals and shared.
beside them an empire grew that believed in racial purity, elves, dwarfs, halflings and humans believeing that the nations strength came from the absence of half breeds. The emperor who ruled this land wanted the fertile lands of the greenskins and so launched a campaign of extermination, claiming the green skin was an affront to the nations gods.
All orcs and goblinoids where attacked, killed or brought into slavery. The peaceful races had to go down to there baser more violent instincts to protect, they had to flee there lands and become refugees causing there own issues, so the slow descent of a peaceful civilization to feral tribes began.
So greenskins in my world are a tragic race, some try to cling onto the old ways, living in camps in friendly nations, trying to keep the old ways going, others have become roaming warbands who have a hatred for all that is different in reaction to those that hated them, and others simply try to survive scratching by day by day.
