I have this idea for PC. Dwarf Druid Circle of Shepherd. In backstory, he is from brewers family and to be considered adult there, he have to come up with his own alcoholic blend, and rest of the family has to aprove it. He tries some exotic ingredient, but it is not good enough. He than drinks all of it alone, and fall asleep in woods. Some Fey princess wakes him up through some connection they have only if he is drunk with that specific blend. He falls asleep again anf wakes up in some sacred swamp where certain shepherd druids are. Becomes one of them and thats it. In current story he is lvl 8 or 9.
Problem is, I want to come up with some "Drunk-o-meter system, wich will allow me have some sort of advantage to some point. Only thing I have come up yet is, that drinking that specific blend will be as bonus action, will give me one drunken point for some time and I will need at least one point to beast shape (due to being drunk while studying and that weird connection to fey princess).
I need to think about how much points I can have, how much points will cause me disadvantage to attack rolls and ability checks (I am thinking about half of max), and what abilities (like maximize healing done by next spell etc.) I can get by spending those points (like monks spending ki points).
Why Shepard, if he's always sleeping and dreaming to study druidism, then why not Circle of Dreams? Seems a lot more fitting (given that it is entirely involved travelling through dream realms like you say the dwarf is doing, instead of shepherd which summons animal spirits).
You want him to be drunk, yet choose the race that is the second-most difficult to get drunk? Dwarves have resistance to poison. Alcohol is a poison. That's why dwarves are known for a lot of drinking : because they're resistant to getting drunk and it takes a lot more alcohol to get them drunk as a result.
It's baffling.It's like you're deliberately contradicting yourself.
This system would be a headache to implement and run and its charm would definitely wear off real quick (especially for the other players - what do they get in exhange for you getting special systems?). I'd say just be a dream druid and have the rest of it be an RP thing, that way you get the gimmick but nobody else has to deal with the balacning and sheer absurdity of a drunk-o-meter / "get bonuses by poisoning yourself".
Thanks for your answer. Its not that he is sleeping, that was just the first contact with princess. And dwarf is also not a problem. This is based on some "special" blend which can get me drunk easily. Others in our group have some homebrew systems as well, so its not something I would have better then them. They would benefit (I hope) from this system by me having better heals or something like that. That is what I need to figure out. I like shepherd druids concept and want to play him as partys healer/support. I mostly get your point, but this is something we agreed on with my DM, and I just want to help him with ruling this, while he has almost no time now.

Can you please help to come up with this system?

This hurts my brain.

Perhaps the Fey Queen leaves behind an Amulet of the Drunkard
