Is the inability to cast spells because of not being able to speak or move in wildshape, or just a restriction? Could it be overcome with Subtle Spell metamagic? Are Aasimar wings ethereal or physical and could they be summoned in wildshape?
The Wildshape feature specifically states you simply cannot cast spells. There are beasts that can speak and gesture, so the fact it specifically states you simply "cannot" without justifying with "because", means it is a restriction by feature, not physicality. It is a balance mechanic. This changes at 18th level and further improved at 20th. I like to RP this that in beast form the magic is channeled differently and you haven't yet learned how to cast magic in beast form.
It does state other features of class and race are kept if the form is capable of it (again, it specifies this is based on chosen form, unlike spellcasting which was simply 'you can't'). An Aasimar's wings are not physical. A fallen aasimar's wings are "ghostly", a protector aasimar's wings are incorporeal, and scourge aasimar don't get wings. So yes, you can use this racial feature in your wildshape form. However, if you were an Aaracokra, however, their wings are physical and so could not be used in wildshape (you'd rely on whatever wings that wildshape had, if any).
These are the answers I assumed. With the addition of the Metamagic Technique Feat, it opens up a lot of possibilities that weren’t as viable as before. And glowing flying tigers will be awesome with Aasimar wings.
