in battle, could a Druid wildshape into a small beast (like a mouse), which is thrown at an enemy by another party member, and then wildshape into a large beast (like a Brown Bear) mid-air? I think this might require readying an action, but I'm not sure of the mechanics?
Did it with my wizard and a moon druid. The druid changed into a squirrel and latched onto a log waiting to go into the campfire. On my turn I used catapult to launch the log with druid behind enemy lines. The damage knocked him out of squirrel so he turned dire wolf and tore up the goblin archers.
The main issue with this strategy is that you need an action to wild shape then another action to wild shape again. You couldn't do this in one turn (unless you were a fighter with action surge).
However you do it, you'd have to wild shape into a small creature then wait until your next turn or later to be thrown. You could either A) Have someone ready an action to throw you at the start of your turn, then take that turn as normal (like wild shape in midair then do whatever with bonus action/movement). B) on your next turn, ready an action to wild shape into a larger creature after you are thrown.
Also, in regards to Falconcry's post: You wouldn't be able to use catapult to launch the druid, as catapult can only targets objects. A creature is not considered an object. However, you could possible convince your DM to let you catapult a rock or something that the druid is sitting on.
In a recent pirate campaign, we had a high level druid who liked to transform into an eagle fly over enemy ships and then transform into a dinosaur and drop....

Correct hence his latching on to a log beside the fire. I used the catapult spell to caber toss the log. Sorry if my language was awkward.

Should have clarified that I'm a Circle of the Moon Druid, so I can use Wild Shape as a bonus action, rather than as an action. I'm thinking on my turn I'd use my bonus action to wild shape to a mouse, then as my action climb on to my half-orc party member's shoulder and ready an action to wild shape into a brown bear to be triggered by becoming airborne. Your option A seems like a good solution too!

That would let you do both wild shapes in one turn. Just something to keep in mind when you do this in game: You wouldn't be able to climb a party member as an action, then ready another action. However, climbing up your party member could be done with movement though, so you should be fine. You could also just move next to them and they can pick you up and throw you.

Makes sense, thanks. So, I could wild shape into a mouse as a bonus action, use my movement to climb my party member and then ready an action to wild shape mid-air. Doesn't seem as complicated as I thought it was originally...
