A friend and I are looking for input from other DM's on what would work and wouldn't work on a discord server for playing D&D. Have a idea that is different and haven't seen one out there yet. So join us and tell us your thoughts and help us spitball ideas. We are working on a faction D&D server..
I made a discord server for my group, even though we play at a real table. I mostly made it as a way for everyone to stay in touch for when we're supposed to be meeting up and etc, but I've found it to be a useful tool for enhancing the game itself.
I made every player their own private text channel where they could take notes, and where I can easily send the player private information at the table about something they discover that the others have not. Mostly this involves cutting and pasting in pre-prepared descriptions of things, which saves me the awkward downtime of typing it all out on the spot in front of everyone. It's fun to see the players being the ones to describe their findings, rather than everyone hearing it from me, and hearing it paraphrased again from them. We also have dice rolling bot, which is useful for when my players are doing downtime activities between sessions. Not that I wouldn't trust them to be honest about real dice rolls.
Other than that, there is also several public viewable channels which contain easy access links to everyones DDB character sheets, all of the source book content I have unlocked and shared on here, and several other useful resources for my players. There is also a channel that I post all the maps and hand outs in, so no one has to scroll back too far to find something that they have all been given.
If we played online then I might have thought of other uses for discord, but as it is, thats all I could suggest.

Already a part of a really good discord server. But thank you for putting yours out there.
