Running dragon of icespire peak, and have a question about the monster gorthok the thunder boar.
In the party is a ranger drakewarden. He sent the drake with lightning immunity up front and it took dodge action. The boar eventually hit it twice, but the lighting damage didn't have any effect due to its immunity. So, is the boar smart enough to figure out that the hits aren't working and move onto another target? It used its lightning bolt 4d8 damage, but it had no effect on the drake. The boar has an intelligence of 6 - not sure if that is smart enough to realize its attacks are not working and then move on. I have done some reading on websites, and it isn't clear to me.
The party defeated the boar, but I am curious what an intelligence of 6 monster would be able to do. I have read similar to an ape, but that's a little vague as I am not versed in ape. Also a new DM, so kinda making it up as we go along.
The boar is probably going to ignore the dodging target anyway. Int 6 is stupid but within human ranges, it's plenty to realize that its attack isn't doing anything.
Monsters should be somewhat aware of what is going on. Beasts in particular will shy away from something they feel is not showing any effect of its' attacks. Or if they are receiving extensive damage from another source they change direction going after the biggest pain they are feeling. Lastly in confusion, they retreat.

I live my life like a West Marches campaign, A swirling vortex of Ambitions and Insecurities.
A wild animal, IRL, will eventually give up on prey they can't kill. It's a waste of precious calories. I suspect a boar, being among the smarter animals, will pick this up more quickly than most predators.
