I’m a new DM with a party of beginners. I live in a small home and use a folding table for our sessions. I would like to jazz up the table/setting a bit but the only set ups I can find online for inspiration are high tech tables with tv monitors or fancy wooden gaming tables which are too big of an investment for me. Does anyone have sources for inspiration on decorated tables/rooms for D&D sessions? I’m thinking table cloths, colored lights, candles, etc to make my temporary setup feel a little more fun. Any help is greatly appreciated! Would love to see everyone’s set up! Thanks!
A good tablecloth is well worth it. If you can find something with a medieval-looking pattern, so much the better. Don't go overboard, as it might get messy with chip crumbs.
Candles are a bad idea, they waver and flicker and fall over. LED candles, on the other hand, are safe and give the same light. I don't know about where you are, but here I find them in the $2 stores.
I've found coloured lights to be not that great. You need to be able to read character sheets and rulebooks, and some colours are not great for that.
Seriously, though, as long as you are there with some sort of prepared game, the players will love it!
