Hey fellow DMs. Like so many of us, I am building my own setting. My players are off in the north beyond the settled lands so I thought I would flesh out the settled areas so things are more developed when they return. But mostly this is an exercise for my own enjoyment. I don't expect the players to dig that deep into why things are the way they are.
Now, I know most of you are not interested in spending hours developing someone else's world, and I'm likewise too engaged to want to dive into someone else's project. But I thought some of you may have stumbled onto a "community" that has resources and folks that would like to chip in. If so, please share so I may have a look.
I am building a nation called Calanthi. Calanthi is a relatively young nation of only five hundred years or so. The people of Calanthi originally came from a nation across the "great sea" to the south, so far only called "The Old Country" in my setting. The Old Country is geographically Turkey and Calanthi is a portion of Ukraine west of Crimea. Elves occupy Crimea. Dwarves occupy the mountains in eastern Turkey. Other humanoids occupy the region of Greece, Macedonia, Italy, etc., and Rhodes, Crete and Cyprus are all colonized by Dragonborn, Teiflings, Half-Elves and less prevalent races such as these. Halflings do not have a nation, but they occupy areas in all the "Good" countries where they may farm the land in peace. Agriculture is so important that Halflings are encouraged to immigrate into countries so they may benefit from their skills and interests. Every Baron would like a Village of Halflings in his Barony. Many magical techniques use leveraged to help produce a bountiful harvest. Druids chant their plant growth spells to great reward in Calanthi.
But what I am seeking right now is someone to develop one of the other nations. I am very invested in Calanthi and The Old Country, but I want these other nations to have a story that builds a broader picture for the setting. So if you know about a resource that would help, please share. Thanks.
