In my campaign the group is settling the colony of New Hym on Anchorome across the ocean from Faerun. The first party basically went crazy and killed each other as well as everyone else. Now a second party is entering the aftermath of that and one of the NPCs are in the backstory of a new player. I was hoping to get some scope on it and see what others think since they are actually becoming an important character.
Boris Buckley is a bugbears resembling hairy, feral goblins standing 7 feet (2.1 meters) tall. They took their name from their noses and claws, which were similar to those of bears. Their claws are not long and sharp enough to be used as weapons. He was adopted as a baby by the Vault of Sages in Silverymoon as a sort of social experiment. A hand full of Sages wanted to know if the brutal and villainous nature of bugbears was something learned or something they were naturally born with. Although he tried and could recite more information than most on any spell he was utterly incapable of casting spells which haunted him along being a complete outsider in the city of Silverymoon. As a result he often hid away in the stacks of books the library host and at some point made friends with one of the new players who would have been one of his only friends. As an adult he was trained as a scribe but was never given and assignment until flustered he approached the Sages to ask to go to Anchorome and seek out any books that might possibly be there. The Sages agreed to let him go knowing it was suicidal and glad to be rid of him now that their experiment was completed and they proved what they believe the nature of bugbears is.
The player who knows him learned that the Sages basically sent him off to die and found a book Boris left behind which led her to signing up to join the Colony.
