The cleric could pray to their deity for guidance and the god/ess could provide information of an artifact or holy person that might be able to turn the curse back.

That's a really powerful curse to use on a level 6 party, so I expect your DM already has some ideas on how this will drive the plot forwards.

This right here is right up my alley. Offer the players a trap they know they are walking into... but what choice do they have? This just oozes drama.
