First, I'd rather not pull out the "DM Hand Waving" to make this happen, but I will if I have to.
The problem: I have a party that needs to do something within a specified timeframe. I messed up in my planning and I put them too far away from their destination. I need to accelerate their land traveling speed. I took a quick peek at the Teleportation spells but decided to inquire here because I had another thought: what about slowing down time around them, or speeding up time around them?
What spell covers that? Would it make sense to have a magical item that could do this? but with limited uses? then it either burns out, or requires recharging...
I recall a spell being used in one of the D&D novels, that enchanted the horses of the characters, so that they were extraordinarily fleet of foot and travelled considerably faster (2x or 3x) and another one that summoned spectral steeds, which flew at great speed.
I suppose this all broils down to the sort of world you're using for your game, (i.e. how commonplace different forms of magic and/or technology are, how likely it is for a ship to randomly sail onto another plane and back onto the material plane in a different location), as well as what sort of allies/contacts your party has (are they allies with a Dragon who agrees to carry them? Is one of your PCs a cleric to a deity of travel? Can a local friendly Wizard enlarge the giant eagle form of your circle of the moon druid so they can carry the party?)
@Aecius: The setting is Forgotten Realms circa 1372 DR. Excellent questions, by the way. However, at this time the party does not anyone that can help in the manner you suggest.
I am intrigued by Necklace of Prayer Beads (I need to learn how to link them in). Unless the party does something _completely_ unexpected, they'll meet High Mornmaster Harndarr Oryn. It seems likely he could have such a necklace. And the party does have a Paladin, so...

"Oh, great. Another portal to the Plane of Water. Damn, I hate planar travel." Then, on the intercom, "this is your captain speaking. We seem to have fallen through a portal to the Elemental Plane of Water. Please remain calm. We will be returning to the Prime Material Plane shortly."

Thoughts? reactions? suggestions? :-D
Thanks!

You could have them steal balloon packs or wingwear from some air cultists. On second thought, maybe not.

Well LOTR solution (Giant Eagles) aside, I would suggest Wind Walk, assuming your party can cast it. But there is also this: Necklace of Prayer Beads

Your suggestions are awesome! Thanks.

Thanks for everyone's suggestions.
Right now I'm thinking I'll homebrew something like the Necklace of Prayer Beads and something like wind walk
