So, likely several months assuming I don’t get hit by a meteor or something akin to that I will be dming for a group of friends. I used to dm for my friends as a teenager well into college but have been “retired” for about five years now as I burned out having been “The Dungeon Master” for almost ten. Having played 5e and finally enjoyed being a player character I was asked by my current group of friends (adult friends?) to Dm when our current campaign is over.
As of this moment I’m in the early stages of writing the campaign but I need some resources! I’m seeking the names and titles of dnd campaigns in older editions that involve the Red Wizards of Thay, specifically any to do with Thay itself. I hope to use these as inspirations for my current campaign. Some novels in the realms I hope to draw inspiration from in the realms are Red Magic and the others - even the pools of radiance book series. That being said I suppose the names of novels that involve Thay will work as well.
Any help is much appreciated! Thank you fellow DMs!
Richard Lee Byers, The Haunted Lands Trilogy has a trove of information on Spellplague Era Thay. Byers also wrote 5 other books in a series called Brotherhood of the Griffon which continues the story of the main character Aoth. I have not read the Brotherhood of the Griffon novels so I am not sure if the setting is also in Thay.
Dead in Thay may be handy. It's all set under Thaymount. It's a D&D Encounters module but reproduced in Tales from the Yawning Portal.
Probably the most info though is in "Unapproachable East" which is from 3.5E (I think). It has about 20 pages on Thay including geography, major cities, politics and notable people.
